Chapter 14 - Jail break (part 3)

2 weeks later. Riley pulls his new machete out of his newest zombie victim. Looking around the trailer park Riley rubs his chin. "Say bud, do you know which of these lovely rednecks has the best shit?" Riley looks down at the unmoving body. "Yeah I suppose you are right it's better to open the presents and be surprised than to know what is inside." Riley walks up to a double wide trailer with a very Jerry rigged porch and kicks the door open raising the little 380 he had found a few days earlier. A zombie wearing a plaid shirt and a heavily stained shirt tries standing from the lazy boy it was sitting in but Riley is faster and beheads it in 1 graceful swipe. "Say Earl you got any good shit in here?" Riley says, setting the zombies' balding head on the counter. He cocks his head to the side and rubs his neck. On the floor by the counter is a filthy truckers cap with something about beer and guns written on it. "Ah there it is, I was about to say, Earl boy something was missing." Riley says chuckling and dropping the hat in his head. Twirling his machete Riley riffles through drawers and finds a beretta in one. "Oh Earl for me you shouldn't have." Riley says tucking the gun in his back pocket after checking it and finding it is unloaded. Whistling Riley goes through more cabinets and finds an unbearable amount of spam and Jack Daniels. "Earl spam and whiskey, while tasty isn't a balanced meal you gotta take better care of yourself." Riley says dropping the bottles and cans into his backpack. Moving to the first room from the kitchen Riley sees a large gun safe. "Oh Earl you beautiful redneck please tell me there are deadly goodies in here and not your cousin's nudes." Riley says laughing as he puts his ear on the safe and begins twisting the knob as he listens for the tell tale ticks of the tumblers moving. After a far longer wait than Riley is happy with the door swings open. "Earl Earl Earl you sweet bastard you." Riley says laughing as he observes the arsenal in front of him. Taking hold of the bolt action rifle within he checks it and loads a conveniently placed bullet. "Say Earl are the neighbor's home, do you think?" Riley yells to the head. Slipping the rifle over his shoulder Riley grabs the 9mm bullets and a few magazines before closing the safe so he doesn't get greedy. Once back in the hall he sees a german shepherd dragging its entrails across the floor sniffing around the rednecks body. Riley shoots it twice once in the shoulder to move it and lastly in the head. "Dick move Earl you could have told me about zombie pooch, is this because I called you out on the cousin fucking don't take it personally bud i'm sure there are other wackos like you out there." Riley chuckles walking back out to the truck now possessing a 15 foot trailer filled with various loot. Barking catches Riley's attention. Standing by the door with his hand on the door latch Riley patiently watches the zombie dog charge him until it leaps. Riley opens the door with bone crushing force smashing it into the dog sending it into the ground hard. Riley steps on its neck and shoots it. "Play dead" Riley says in a cooing voice. "Riley this is Crystal Lake, come in Riley." Tank says again. Riley had been ignoring them for a week but in this moment the call was a surprise and Riley jumps cursing. "What is it?" Riley asks. "Thank god man I thought you were hurt or worse." Tank says. "Nope just looting." As Riley said this more barking was heard running Tanks blood cold. Riley turns and drops to his knee and raises the rifle taking aim and fires. The bullet travels through the first dogs nose and out the back of its head into the remaining zombie beasts eye killing it as well. "Double points yes and the crowd goes wild." Riley says pumping his fist. "So what do you need?" Riley asks. "Don't you have a zombie dog to deal with?" Tank asks worriedly. "3 actually and nope they are quite dead now." Riley says lighting a cigarette. "You're a beast Ri, so uh I was wondering when are you coming home it's been 2 weeks already?" Tank asks nervously. "I keep finding goodies and zombies, I don't really wanna go home when I'm on a roll." Riley says. "I get that but I miss you man and I'm worried about you." Tank says. Riley looks at the sky. The small outlying town he had driven to was about 50 miles away from Jericho's Gate and Crystal Lake. It would take Riley a while to return home. "How are things back home?" Riley asks. Tank looks at the small crowd behind him gathering since hearing Riley's voice. "Just been building up our defenses and scavenging nothing on our end to report really." Tank says. "Good good, I'll wander back soon. I have almost found all the things I need." Riley says, staring at a pair of dirt bikes. "Just try to check in more man." Tank says. "Will do." Riley says moving closer to the bikes. Shrugging Riley grabs a logging chain and enters Earls trailer where he wraps the chain around the gun safe. Passing the severed head Riley puts the last of his cigarette in the mouth. "Time to break shit." Riley says, rubbing his hands together. Pulling the truck forward while chained to the safe, Riley watches the logging chain cut through the wall until it is pulled straight. "Ah, so, there be my treasure." Riley laughs. Grabbing a fireman's ax, Riley spends 45 minutes hacking away the wall until the room holding the safe is fully exposed. Riley carefully pulls forward until the safe has slid to the edge of the opening teetering dangerously. Carefully the boy unwraps the chain and backs the trailer up to the hole. Wandering inside Riley stands next to the wobbling safe. "20 points say this fucker lands nice and nothing breaks." Riley yells to the severed head as he kicks the large container with all his might making it crash into the trailer right below. "Fuck yeah!" Riley says, throwing his hands in the air. "Well Earl it's been great but I've got to head home now take care and seriously dude leave your cousin alone." Riley laughs as he drops out the hole and climbs into the truck heading back to Crystal Lake.

Tank leaves the radio room and makes his way out to the wall where he finds Rat. "Any word?" Rat asks without looking at Tank. "Yes, he says he will be on his way back." Tank says. Rat nods to himself. "I was starting to think he had left us behind." Rat says looking at Tank. "He say how long it would be?" Rat asks hopefully. "No." Tank says sadly. Rat shrugs and sighs. "It feels safer when Riley is close by, right now it kinda feels like our walls will collapse any second." Rat says quietly. "Or at least just to me." Rat chuckles. Tank turns away from him to head down into the house again when Rat starts laughing. "He ditched the fucking truck for a Camero." Rat says laughing so hard he almost falls off the wall. "I'll get the gate." Tank says chuckling and wrenching the gate open to let the bright red Camero in. Tank slams the gate shut and jogs up to the car. "Never took you for a sports car kind of guy Ri." Tank says seconds before a gun goes in his face. "I'm more of an opportunist like how you get the opportunity to keep your head if you give me your shit bro." A Hispanic man with more gold around his neck than in fort Knox says. "Fuck." Tank sighs
