As he matched up the building towards his office,Xavier De Luca nodded at his workers who stood up to greet him when he walked past them.From the receptionist at the ground floor to the one in front of his office,he barely spared them a glance.Sometimes,it was better to keep a distance from the workers.
He walked in to his large office,well furnished to a masculine taste and as eeri as ever,silent as well.The glass walls permitted a beautiful view of the city below from up here which was just where he walked to as he tossed his briefcase on the black leather couch in the office,loosening his tie too.
He gazed down at the busy city with his hands in his pocker.Today was supposed to be a beautiful Monday,but then....
He glared at the pile of work that awaited him at his desk and sighed.Life sometimes was so annoying when it comes to work.
Just as he shoved himself into his swivel chair,his cellphone started to vibrate.One glance at the caller ID told him there was no way he was picking that particular call.He chosed to instead mute and ignore it but the caller was the pestering type as the person redialled the moment the latter ring went off.
With an eye roll,Xavier swiped the receive icon and placed it on his ear.
"Hello Mom".
"Just what kind of son are you,huh?"Natali De Luca started to scold the moment he spoke."Deliberately ignoring your mother's calls,what category do I put that?"
"Just what on Jupiter is it this morning?"He retorted.
"How are you?"She asked,ignoring him.
"Great,how about you?"He replied but immediately wished he could take it back when her voice started to drop.
"I'm not fine Xavier,how can I be when you've refused to grant my one request?"
"What don't you understand between the lines 'I'm not ready '?"He snapped,clearly frustrated.
"What do you mean you're not ready?That Inna girl was great but you had to break up with her all of a sudden!"
"She wasn't good for me!"He retorted.
"Just take a look at Jace!He and Androlla are having a baby by next winter solstice and he's your younger brother for chrissake!"
"Can you stop comparing me to Jace?"Xavier snapped.Jace was his ever ambitious twenty five years old brother who was just building a family of his own.Hus mother wouldn't just stop comparing him and he wasn't about to stay mad at her.
"Of course not!You're not growing younger,you're twenty nine for Pete's sake Xavier!"
"I never said I'm not getting married,I'm getting married alright?"
"Oh my God!"Her scream made him tear the phone from his ear for a while before he put it back.
"Thank goodness,when is that so I can begin to prepare?"
"When I'm thirty nine!"
