There were glaring holograms everywhere and they looked great. Every year, we had a gaming tournament. There was no particular age limit to that but because all adults had jobs so only students were the majority who playing these games. So things got pretty wild in there.
I used to watch the live stream with my brother for the past few years. But this time, my parents gave me the permission to play on the event. I had no game playing genes but still I loved playing. I came here with Ruyi who was basically very happy. And her reason was that she got Matched with her crush. Personally I could foresee many hurdles in her relationship but I didn't want to tell her for now. There's a time for everything, right?
Based on my gaming experience, I could only play in the outer layer so I enjoyed my time there. And like everyone, I was also there for the finale. The game can be single player or multi player but everyone must fight in the finale. Even if I had a team, I wouldn't be good for the final game. So we waited in our seats.
The huge screen was divided into many sub screens showing all the participating teams. There were twenty of them and the battle started. Each team had to employ strategy and protect their life card while killing other teams. It was thrilling to watch as teams fought.
And soon, players were getting eliminated. As things progressed, the battle formations came alive and then the screens change to holograms. The simulated war field looked gorgeous. Each team had five commanders who worked together and broke other teams' formations. I learned many tricks but the real tricks come out in the end.
There were five teams left and those teams finally showed their full potential. Which is the reason why a dark horse emerged. This team quickly eliminated two teams. So now there were three teams fighting. The battlefield quickly changed colors and all the team players had their location displayed. To everyone's surprise, there were eleven people standing.
And the colors showed that a team had only one member fighting. A single player team eliminated all other teams and entered the finals. Maybe it was the first time it happened. Now mostly everyone focused on that player because not everyday you see a player trying to win multiplayer games. He maneuvered and created many obstacles while trying to remove other team's traps. There were plant traps for which he used freeze potions and for animals, he captured them. The captured animals then belong to him. This was the ultimate thing because all other players were mainly focused on killing. So this lone player turned the prisoners of war as his own army. Who would need team members when the opposing team's people turned into cannon fodder?
And he then slowly consumed energy of other teams. I never saw him kill any player. His game was essentially different without any violent factors. It was easy. He slowly brought down the other two teams and then joined the ultimate quest of the game.
Basically it was to place the team life card on the spire of the tower. I didn't know how he would jump on top of that. But anyway, this game was quite entertaining. Because everyone was gasping in surprise, fear, excitement and anticipation.
He crossed many ghosts, zombies, fierce beasts, overcrowded hallways and finally climbed to the top. There was only one five meter long spire with a sharp tip. In everyone's expectant eyes, he removed his hat, placed the card on top of it and then threw it.
The hat moved in a parabola, flew up and then down and got pierced by the spire. The whole venue lit up with light firecrackers. Everyone got up and jumped and then the shouts rang incessantly.
A thrilling end to the game this year. It's not like there wasn't a game entertaining like this in previous years. But it never happened that only a single player won it without any team. so it can be called a perfect planning. I waited with Ruyi to see the winning person. But to pur surprise, there wasn't any award presenting ceremony this time. So we moved to the less crowded food area. Because many of us were waiting in the game area to catch a glimpse of the winner. Ruyi and I sat on the side in a secluded corner observing people who came. There were mostly boys who laughed and ordered food.
And through their loud conversation, we found the name of the winner. He was called Vyuh and it was his second time in this game. He was fifth in the last year's game. Also he spends more time making various plays and programming.
"Do you think we can meet Vyuh today? " Ruyi asked.
"I don't think so. He vanished after the game, right? Maybe he was hiding from his newly formed fan club."
She giggled and then gobbled her food.
"Anyway, what about your mate? Do you like him?"
Well, she went to the extreme very fast. I didn't know my mate at all.
"Like is a far fetched word, here. Not like you who knows your mate," I grumbled.
"Hey, I'm also at a loss here. He doesn't like me, you know that."
I nodded. Personally, I didn't get why they dated when there is a possibility that they couldn't be matched. I always thought his brain wasn't working very well anyway.
"What will happen will happen. So I'm taking it slow."
"No. You are scared. I see that you have shut yourself. Just be open minded. Maybe you can like him? If you don't, we will see then."
"I know all of this in theory. But I just can't get over this. "
At this moment, a guy came to a table near us. I noticed that there was another table more secluded than the one we were in. And then two guys left. I just happen to see the side face of the guy who was sitting near us. He was handsome enough but I wondered why he was hiding.
