Yu Yan walked into the house, it was around midnight. She'd never thought she'd be back this late, but her Mom was at it again causing trouble for Dad. Her mother loved her, and she also loved her father but the moment custody was taken from her because of her inability to make ends meet. She fell apart.
Most people thought her mother had gone crazy but she knew that her mother only feared for her daughter's life. Her Dad would do anything in her power to take care of her but he was also fighting his own inner demons and by taking her in making her his heir. He basically threw her in the crossfire.
She snapped out of her thoughts and walked towards Ying Yue's bedroom only to find out her friend was missing. She took out her phone to call her but the phone rang on the bedside table, she groaned in annoyance. What was she up to now? Only one name rang in her head though, the one who had occasionally kidnapped her friend. Lui Feng...
She was about to leave the room and go back downstairs when a strong breeze blew and a man appeared in the room. He looked around sighting her but completely ignoring her existence.
'Great, another crazy just what I needed', she thought and sighed. She decided to chase him away but the moment she snapped out of her thoughts she noticed the man in front of her, a smirk gracing his lips.
Why were they all good-looking though? He motioned towards her causing her to move back. He looked into her eyes as if looking into the depths of her soul making her shudder, he suddenly chuckled and spoke in the most mesmerizing voice she'd ever heard.
"For the only friend of someone so special, you're a coward... Run while you still can, kitten", he said and that quite literally struck her like a bullet to the head.
"K.O." she heard a voice say, what the hell, could he read minds or something? She wanted to retort but she was at a complete loss for words. The trespasser had to be the bluntest and coldest person she'd met, even the Lui heir who had been described as the worst would melt because of Ying Yue.
"Who do you think you..." She was about to complete the statement when she noticed him make his way towards the window. Was he going to jump? It was only one story but it was still quite dangerous, she wouldn't take responsibility if he got hurt.
She looked away trying to avoid staring and becoming worried but the moment she heard the bushes rustle indicating he had landed she rushed towards the window. She looked down and saw that he was alright causing her to breathe a sigh of relief, she wasn't looking for any more trouble. He waved at her and his eyes glistened in the moonlight, causing her to be dumbfounded and before she knew it he was gone.
Yu Yan looked at the phone in her hand, there was an unsent message she had already typed out.
"Dad, I know this may come as a shock as you understand how much I love and care for our family's hotel but I don't think I'm capable enough to handle it. Besides uncle desperately wants it anyway and has threatened me on multiple occasions. I don't wish to fight..."
The message ended there, she was going to talk to Ying Yue and complete it. She loved Beijing but moving to New York also sounded fun. It would be peaceful and she wouldn't have to join the power struggle. The hotel would survive after all her uncle was a businessman.
She lay on the bed, she would be sure to text her father... But when Ying Yue came back. Yes, she'd just wait to tell her friend first. She wouldn't make a decision she'd regret... But leaving would be the biggest regret, especially since she hadn't completed that...
Her phone rang all of a sudden about two hours later, she couldn't fall asleep as her head was filled with a myriad of thoughts. It was an unknown number, but the odds were either Lui Feng or her best friend he had kidnapped. She answered the phone and at the sound of her friend's voice, she calmed down a bit.
She called to make sure she wouldn't be worried and she was with Lui Feng, and for some reason that information for some reason made her sigh in relief. Although it was late she actually believed he wouldn't hurt her, and it wasn't as if Ying Yue couldn't take care of herself. So she reminded her friend to be careful and hung up.
She sat up staring at the moon, her fear of the unknown was her greatest weakness. She didn't want to cause pain for anyone but she had been chosen for something so important, most times she'd just think... Why her?
The grey-eyed man's words kept playing in her head. 'Run, run, run' and for some reason it made her want to be defiant. She didn't want to do what he wanted or said she would do, she had the urge to prove him wrong and rub it in his face. She didn't want it to be the last time they'd meet, there was this feeling that appeared when he looked into her eyes like he was staring at a reflection of himself that was long gone. She wanted her fear gone too.
She picked up her phone and deleted the unsent message, thank goodness she hadn't talked to Ying Yue about it and make her worried while she seemed so happy. She had to do this herself, Ying Yue had always protected her and made her come out of her shell every once in a while but she needed to be the one to break that shell.
Yu Yan stood up energized, she would learn more about the hotel and take over whether her uncle liked it or not, she would bring her mother to live with her whether her father liked it or not but what if her father did not approve?
She would take care of both of them herself, she had a lot of influence in high society and she was a graduate with honors. So it would be a bit easier for her but she wanted the hotel, her mother helped her father build it. Most of the innovations that made it so popular were her mom's ideas, ideas that she watched her father bring to life. If not for the spite thrown at the couple by her father's family because her mother was a simple teacher, they would be a happy family. But no matter what she would fix everything, she had to.
The grey-eyed man stood around the house obviously waiting for that demon to return the angel to her safe haven, at this distance he could clearly feel the change in the aura of the girl in the room, it brought a small smile to his face. That girl... She had more in her than she thought she did, it couldn't just be anyone who would be chosen by Ying Yue. There had to be something more to it.
His master was one who placed people around her for a reason, so as long as his master had approved of her then she was special. She was also different from the rest to be able to get that close, who was she? As far as he knew his master had been stingy with her information but he never really bothered until he read her mind and tried getting in her head and he couldn't get past the surface despite his focus. This was getting more interesting but for now, that idiot better know what he's doing.
