Atsumu stared at the computer screen, tapping his pen on the table, in annoyance, currently in the Lumiose City library. On-screen showed all of Professor Sycamore's research on mega evolution that he has published to the public.
' Master. I must ask, why don't you just ask the professor? He is the leading scientist in the field. ' Aegislash said.
' He is the leading scientist in the field and I could go talk to him about my questions for some back and forth exchange of ideas... ' Atsumu said.
' I sense a but coming... ' Aegislash said.
' But... ' Atsumu said.
' There it is... ' Aegislash said.
' He probably, 99%, doesn't have the answers to the questions I want to be answered and is stuck with those questions as well. ' Atsumu explained as stated spinning on his chair.
' What are those questions? ' Jellicent asked as she floated into the room with some coffee.
' Thanks, Jeliicent. ' Atsumu said gratefully as he took the coffee.
' No problem. Where's Chandalure? Is he still searching through the books? ' Jelkicent asked.
' Yes. He hasn't come back in a while. I can either assume he's reading a very good book or he's searching through the aisles to find one, possibly both. ' Aegislash said.
' True. You know how he gets when he finds a good book to read. ' Atsumu said after taking a sip of coffee, a smile on his face as he remembered the moments where he taught Chandulure how to read.
Ah, good times.
Meanwhile...
' My goodness, what ingenuity!! Hanging the man up with chains before peeling his skin off, similar to how a human peels the skin off a carrot!! His nerves would be exposed to the world, so he would feel pain from just the wind brushing against him!! Now imagine if he was burned alive... ' Chandalure thought in excitement as he looked at the floating book in front of him, being held up by him using psychic.
...
' Yeah... So you were talking about questions? ' Jellicent asked.
' Hmmm... Oh, those. ' Atsumu said.
' The main question that the professor hasn't figured out yet is how mega stones were made. We're they made artistically by humans or were they natural? That question is something I've thought about ever since Dusknoir brought back his mega stone. ' Atsumu said.
' Why is that Master? ' Aegislash asked.
' Because he managed to get from the literal world dead. ' Atsumu said.
He remembered the moment vividly. When he was still challenging the battle tree, Dusknoir had the desire to mega evolve like all the pokemon that have done so. Due to that very desire, he went to the world of the dead and returned with a mega stone in hand.
' Why? ' Jellicent asked. ' Why would that matter? Wouldn't that mean mega stones are naturally made along with keystones? '
' It would... if it wasn't for the fact Marshadow detected the differences in energy signature between the mega evolved Dusknoir and Gengar respectively. Gengar's and Sabelyes mega stones were made of the same properties so they were very similar in structure but Dusknoir's was completely different. ' Atsumu said.
' Perhaps it's because it was created in the afterlife as Dusknoir said but can be brought to the world of living which makes it an anomaly. But then I started thinking about how mega evolution is achieved.
How is that pokemon can mega evolve in the first place but it's just a temporary transformation?
No.
How does a mega stone cause a pokemon mega evolve, giving them a brand new form to fight against other pokemon?
The trigger is a strong bond between pokemon and trainer, but that's just an activation requirement, it doesn't cause the transformation itself which we know is that the pokemon takes in energy from the mega stone, causing it to transform into this extremely powerful form.
Now, how did all that power be contained on that mega stone?
It's possible that we can just use the same explanation as evolution stones or even special items used for certain evolution like Dusknoirs reaper cloth that we gave him as a Duclops to evolve... though the evolution stones work better in this case.
The stones themselves were created over time with specific properties. Like the firestone containing fire-type energy that can be used to make specific pokemon evolve.
However, the problem with that is... why does each pokemon have their own unique mega stone? They each have a specific mega stone that can only be used by them.
Why?
Even Dusknoir's mega stone is like that. It's tailored specifically for him alone.
Why!? '
Atsumu rubbed his head as he thought about the question at hand while Aegislash and Jellicent watched him.
' I still can't figure out how this even works. I could just attribute this to nature somehow being able to do it... 'Atsumu said as he leaned back into his chair with a sigh.
' But... ' Jellicent said.
' It's boring. ' Atsumu said.
' It's a boring answer. ' Atsumu said with a closed-eyed smile.
' Which is why you're going through all this trouble. ' Aegislash said with a nod of his head.
' Yep. ' Atsumu said as he brought out a locket, connected to a silver chain that hung around his neck.
The locket was heart-shaped, its surface was smooth with the insignia S on it as Atsumu smiled at the locket.
Aegislash sighed in annoyance asJellicent rolled her eyes at him.
' Really? ' Jellicent asked.
' What? We've talked about this many times and my stance on the subject will never waver. ' Aegislash said.
' I know. But you don't have to sigh in annoyance every time you look at the locket. ' Jellicent said.
' True but I don't care. ' Aegislash said as Jellicent sighed.
' Well, I can't blame you for thinking that way, but it's still annoying.' Jellicent said.
' And I can't understand why you don't hold a grudge. ' Aegislash said.
' Probably because we took care of them already. ' Jellicent snapped.
Atsumu had a small smile as he opened the locket to reveal the keystone he embedded, while the surrounding parts of the locket were covered with a black coloring.
' At least you removed whatever was inside first and added this black coloring. Makes it more bearable. ' Aegislash said.
' You've got to stop aiming your grudge towards the locket because it causes you to remember certain memories ignoring who this locket used to belong to in the first place. ' Jellicent said.
' She's right. ' Atsumu said with a smile as he looked at the two.
' After all, we got this locket from someone else. ' Atsumu said with a smile on his face, mirrored by the happy expression on Jellicents face and Aegislash closed his eyes with a solemn expression.
' As for those people... We already killed them. So there's no need to worry about them anymore. ' Atsumu said a blank face, a cold look in his eyes.
Aegislash stayed silent as Jellicent looked at him with an ' I told you so ' look.
' Guys!!! Guys!! ' Chandalure yelled as he floated towards the group.
' Chandalure, calm down. Why are you in such a rush? ' Jelicent asked calmly.
' Did you find a good book that you want us to read? ' Aegislash asked.
' Book, Yes! Good, No! Important, Yes!! ' Chandalure yelled as he placed the book on the table.
' Read it...Read it! Why are you just staring?! Read it!! " Chandalure demanded.
' Woah okay. ' Atsumu said as he raised his hands in the air.
He looked at the cover of the book, which was extremely old. The title of the book had already worn off, while the pages of the said book were a dirty brown color. Atsumu could tell that the book wasn't very long, only having a couple of pages at most, probably between 6 to 10. The cover of the book was very large, similar to a sketchbook, having a giant flower on the front cover.
Atsumu brushed his fingers against the surface of the book with Jellicent and Aegislash watching from the side while Chandalure...
' Keep calm. Keep calm. Let them read at their own pace. We have all the time in the world. ' He chanted to himself, trying to force down the urge to speak about the book to his family.
Atsumu opened the book, his eyes glancing at the words written in black ink, though they have faded a bit, yet not so much that it makes the book unreadable.
" A terribly long time ago... " Atsumu read out loud as he stared at the picture drawn above the sentence. The picture showed a mountain field, with the sun shining near the mountain peaks.
" There lived a man and his pokemon. He loved that pokemon very much. " Atsumu said as he looked at the picture of the man, holding out his hands, staring at the Flabbebe standing in his hands.
" A war began. " Atsumu said as his eyes widened along with Aegislash and Jellicent who stared at the picture of humans and pokemon fighting, causing mass destruction with many corpses littered on the ground.
One human in the picture held something in his hands. His fist was closed but light shone through it, resonating with a Beedrill a few meters in front of him, fighting a Pidgeot.
A mega Pidgeot.
' Mega evolution!!! ' Atsumu thought in shock.
" The man's beloved pokemon took part in the war. " Atsumu said as he flipped the page only to see a single sentence for the next two pages.
" Several years passed. " Atsumu said before turning the page.
Atsumu stared at the drawing. The man was kneeling on the ground, tears dropping from his eyes, depicted by the wet spots near his clenched hand that grabbed the dirt while a box laid before him.
" He was given a tiny box. "
The box was a coffin, having a flower on the top of it. The man's pokemon had died in the war.
" The man wanted to bring the pokemon back. No matter what it took. "
Atsumu flipped the page to look at a giant machine in the shape of a yet-to-bloom flower, with the man hanging on near the top.
" The man built a machine to give it life. "
Below that sentence, another picture was there, showing the Flabbebe coming back to life.
" He brought his beloved pokemon back. "
" The man had suffered too much. His rage had not yet subsided. "
Below the line was a picture of the man, standing next to a tree with his clenched fist.
" He could not forgive the world that had burst the pokemon he loved. "
Turning the page, Atsumu looked at the full picture. The machine had was in the form of a bloomed flower, glowing ominously, indicated by the use of shading.
" He turned the machine into the ultimate weapon. "
The next pictures showed a beam being launched into space, before coming back down, slamming into the earth below.
" The man became a bringer of destruction that ended the war. "
The next picture showed the Flabbebe that was brought back to life with a sad knowing look on its face.
" The pokemon given life must have known... "
" That the lives of many pokemon were taken to restore its life. " Atsumu's eyes widened at the quote as he kept going.
" The resurrected pokemon left the man. "
Atsumu turned to the last page, staring at the various pokemon lined up in order along with humans. You could make them out, but they all had a dark shade to them.
However, the last page was put on the back burner as he laid back in his chair looking at the ceiling, a blank expression on his face.
' This story...seems... familiar. ' Aegislash said.
' Of course, it seems familiar!! We've heard this story before!! ' Chandalure yelled gaining their attention.
' It's the same story told to children in the Kalos region as a bedtime story! Many people think it's just a folk tale, one of fiction but right now we just read a book that told the same story. ' Chandalure said.
' But couldn't someone have just made this a book and published it, based on the bedtime story? ' Jellicent asked.
' No. ' Atsumu said. ' They couldn't have. Mega evolution had been discovered recently, yet this book is way older than that. As for the bedtime story, it's real but it's just a fairy tale now, lost in time as people forgot it actually happened and merely think of it as fiction. '
' Exactly!! ' Chandalure said as Atsumu flipped through the pages.
' Not only that but this gives clues on mega evolution as well!! ' Chandalure said.
' How? ' Jelliecent and Aegislash asked.
' I was getting to it! Don't rush me! ' Chandalure snapped.
' The moment where it said that the pokemon that was brought back to life knew that many pokemon were SACRIFICED for that to occur. All those pokemon were turned into ENERGY so that the pokemon was bright back to life by the machine!! ' Chandalure said.
' Waitwaitwait... Energy? ' Jellicent asked.
' Yes. Energy. ' Atsumu said calmly. ' The pokemon were sacrificed and turned into energy, being injected into the pokemon so that it can be alive again. Something must be sacrificed for the pokemon to come back to life and it was other pokemon, who were turned into fuel for that pokemon.
If with enough sacrifices, you can get enough energy to bring a pokemon back to life, what's to say you can't use enough to gain a temporary power boost in battle? '
.
.
' Mega evolution! ' Aegislash exclaimed.
' Yes!! It also explains the specifically tailored stones for each pokemon! They took multiple of the same pokemon and crammed them into a stone, to be used as a temporary source of power in the heat of battle!
As for why they did it, it's simple. Because they were in a fucking war and they needed all the firepower they could get!! This is why they are many naturally strong pokemon that got mega evolutions making them even strong to cause more destruction to win!! ' Chandalure explained.
' Oh lord, Arceus. ' Jellicent said in shock at the massive implications.
' Then why is a strong bond necessary? ' Aegislash asked.
'It's to make sure they mega evolved pokemon don't go out of control due to the influx of power. The extra power could cloud their mind, making them attack everything in sight in a blind rage, as Professor Sycamore explained in one of his papers. ' Atsumu said.
' I see... then does this mean that keystones... ' Jellicent asked.
' Yep. They are made from sacrificed human lives. ' Atsumu said calmly as he looked at his keystone with lidded eyes.
' This is heavy. ' Aeguslash said as he closed his eye to process everything that just occurred.
' What do we do now? ' Jellicent asked seriously.
' Should we even tell the authorities about this discovery? Perhaps professor Sycamore? ' Jellicent suggested.
' No. If it gets out that mega stones could be created artificially, many people would try to recreate them. There are already assholes in the world who experiment on pokemon. ' Chandalure said.
' That's true. Besides, the last thing I want to do is be the cause for multiple pokemon and people dying because I released information that mega stones and keystones are possibly created by the sacrifices of pokemon and humans respectfully. ' Atsumu said with a sigh.
' Then what do you do with the information master? ' Aegislash asked.
' Take it our graves. ' Atsumu said seriously.
' Wait. Is this the only book? ' Aegislash asked.
' Possibly but probably not. The possibility of another book existing is extremely high. ' Atsumu said.
' So depending on the person, the result of having the book their possession differs. ' Jellicent said.
" Yep. Let's just hope the person who ends up finding it, isn't a total nutcase. ' Chandalure said.
' Wait!! I was too caught up in the moment, but is this the correct explanation for how mega evolution exists? ' Jellicent asked.
' Again, possibly! ' Chandalure snapped.
' The truth is that we don't have direct confirmation, however... the dots line up extremely well with this theory more than any other. ' Atsumu said seriously.
' Then what about the professor? Could it be possible he knows the truth but doesn't want to publicize it? ' Aegislash asked.
' Again, possibly...The chances that Professor Sycamore knows that this is a possibility on how mega evolution was created is way lower than him just not knowing. ' Chandalure said.
' Either way, we aren't telling anyone. ' Atsumu said.
' Hide this book with you in the shadows. We're leaving. ' Atsumu said.
Atsumu gave the book to Chandalure who took the book with him into Atsumu's shadow. Atsumu returned Aegislash first while waiting for Jellicent to arrive after throwing away the coffee. Drinks weren't allowed in the library, but Atsumu didn't care.
After cleaning up, he left the library and headed towards a Cafe.
...
" Excuse me, sir, I have some good news. " said a scientist, staring at the tall man in front of him, sitting in his chair, reading a book, his chair facing the window.
The tall man has a muscular figure, blue eyes that looked at the scientist, and pointed red hair connected to his beard. He is wearing a black suit, lined in red with a fluffy gray collar, black dress shoes, and fingerless gloves, holding a mega ring on his left middle finger.
His name: Lysandre Labelle.
" Yes. What is it? " Lysandre said as he looked at the scientist.
" We found it, sir! " The scientist said excitedly.
Lysandre froze, his left middle finger stopped moving just as he was about to turn the page.
" Are you sure? " Lysandre asked seriously.
" Yes sir! We received the report that the ultimate weapon might be located in Geosenge town weeks ago but we didn't report this to you until we had solid proof.
After digging through the place, we managed to fin it! It's in Geosenge town! The ultimate weapon is located there, sir!! " The scientist said in excitement.
" I see. " Lysandre said as cracked a grin and stood from his chair, placing the book on the table next to him, showing off the flower on the front cover.
" Josh. Get me a helicopter and ready me, Alpha squad. We are going there immediately. " Lysandre said.
" Yes sir. " The scientist said as he walked don't the room.
' Finally... ' Lysandre thought.
' Soon, very soon my dream will be a reality. ' Lysandre thought as he looked out the window.
' A perfect world... ' Lysandre thought as he raised his palm towards Lumiose city, before closing his hand with a grin on his face, an excited look in his eyes.
' Created by me! '
