Band class, the STOP concert was a pleasant event. Plenty of parents came to watch them play, Jeffrey had a lot of free time staring at his folder and getting dressed up. It was a bit too conspicuous to bring his materials as none of the students had money and it just wasn't the right time.
"There were 300 students in school and he had yet to sell a single jar!"
That thought frustrated Jeffrey, although his dad bought the materials. Jeffrey felt as if it was him who had paid 80 dollars and the weekend he spent to make the slime.
"It wasn't easy to make money", thought Jeffrey. Just because you put in work, didn't make something valuable. It was what people thought was valuable and willing to pay that made money.
The reason why no other adults or anyone was selling slime was because they thought it didn't make enough, weren't aware, or didn't have the student status or weren't willing to try to sell towards kids.
Why were some parents selling popsicles after school, while others decided to work at an office? His parents made money for a company and so the company paid them money to keep working.
Jeffrey was working to pay himself, if he didn't make anything he didn't earn anything. No one owed him any money at all or would pay him for the time he spent trying to sell slime.
Most of all Jeffrey had this sense of greed, some called it passion and others desire. However it was this drive and entrepreneurial spirit that made him seek such a difficult route.
Jeffrey resolved to visit the ping pong and carrom kids, the kids who spent money on pokemon cards to see if they were interested in glow in the dark slime. However soon Jeffrey focus was drawn back toward band class.
Samantha was practicing the trumpet, Gavin was the first chair in his section playing the saxophone with Ian by his side and Aleena was in the chair after him.
Michael Zapato was busy practicing the flute, while Steven Harris was in the percussion section with the unruly band kids. The drummers were wearing beanies and the band room was basically relieving the pressure and tension from the concert.
Mrs. Browne the band teacher stepped into the room.
"QUIET", her voiced boomed throughout the 3rd period class.
"We'll be watching Kung Fu Panda, donuts will be in my office and I'll call each section to grab 1. Precussion section first."
Mrs. Browne headed back to her room and allowed her students to quietly watch and discuss as the movie played on.
Various gossip and discussions started to pop up. Mrs. Browne allowed her band kids to talk, but if it got too loud she'd come out of her office and pause the movie.
The band teacher was hard at work, preparing the class agenda and the music pieces for the next concert. The holiday concert was a big one, She was busy searching up various arrangements to purchase, license, and print for each class.
Ian and Gavin started talking and Jeffrey took this time to show Aleena his science project.
"Hey Aleena, want to see something cool?", Jeffrey struck up a conversation with his nearby chair mate.
Aleena was talking with another student in the clarinet section. The two of them looked at Jeffrey, probably thinking "why was this quiet kid talking to them?"
Jeffrey pulled out 2 jars, a glow-in-the-dark red slime jar. It shone dimly, but it looked like a weaker lava lamp. Then he pulled out the other Slime factory jar, in the dark it looked grayish, but the smell of oranges and lemons started to be emitted from the jar.
"What is it?", Aleena asked annoyed Jeffrey interrupted their conversation.
"It's my science project, Oobleck", Jeffrey introduced the substance.
The two girls started to touch it.
"Hey you guys, could you be careful with it. It was really expensive to make and it took me all weekend to make 2 or 3 jars", Jeffrey said with a concerned voice.
"Yeah, yeah we'll be careful", Aleena assured her band mate. They looked like they wanted to keep it, but Jeffrey needed to make it popular.
"Hey Aleena, I really do need that back for my science fair project. It cost me 20 dollars and I want to use it for my display", Jeffrey hinted.
"If you want I can make an extra jar for you", Jeffrey offered.
"Ooh can I get one?", Aleena's friend asked.
"Sure, but it's expensive. If you give me 35 dollars, I'll give both of you one jar. I'll give you a discount because we're all in band", Jeffrey started to try to sell it.
Aleena looked interested, "it smells nice."
Aleena's friend said, "yeah, I like it"
"Thanks, I only have one jar. However I used some hand soap and some perfume to make it smell nice. It can help to clean your hands of dirt and pick up dust on your desk", Jeffrey recalled some of the uses his Oobleck could do.
Jeffrey felt a little confident trying to push for a sale, with the boys he felt intimidated to use his relationship with them and get them to buy his slime. That way it felt like they were doing him a favor, instead of him giving them an amazing science material.
Jeffrey reminded them, "it's 40 dollars for 2 jars. $20 for 1 of them, if you promise not to tell anyone I gave you a discount. I'll give you $5 back when you pay me."
Aleena and her friend nodded their heads.
"I should have 2 jars by next week. I also have this glow-in-the-dark jar as well. I was going to sell this to the boys, but they didn't seem to want it", Jeffrey started talking about his other slime.
"Anyways, my favorite scene of the movie is coming up. I'll let you guys keep talking, sorry for bothering you", Jeffrey went back again.
Jeffrey started to advertise the slime, word of mouth marketing as they talked about it in financial books. Jeffrey recalled another movie he watched before, "I've done the work, now it's time to Let The Bullets Fly (让子弹飞) for a little bit"
