Chapter 18 - Catalyst

"I told you not to jump on her goddamn head again!"

Roma and Rena found themselves once again in the office of Sir Markus Light, the doctor that Roma had been with since he was a child, though even despite how long they've known one another, their meeting was just as *cordial* as always.

"And I already told *you* that it wasn't me this time!" Roma bitched back. The two of them growled and glared at one another, while poor Rena laid on the bed, waiting to actually have her injuries tended to.

"I-It wasn't him this time…" Rena chimed in in a forced tone, though she sat there in pain thanks to her head and thigh. She felt like there was a good chance she'd pass out from the blood loss, and didn't exactly know why the doctor wasn't taking a more proactive role in stopping it.

"You stupid kids…" Light grumbled to himself, before taking an LMA,strapping it around Rena's head, "What's your favorite fruit?" He asked the girl, setting up the machine.

"...Grapes… Strawberries… Pinea-"

"Apples it is." And just like that, Light turned on the anesthesia, and its effects were felt immediately for Rena. A number of hours ended up passing, before her eyes snapped open again. Her heart pounded heavily, loudly, and for the first time in months, her body had finally gotten a bit of rest.. But still not enough to completely rid her of her exhaustion.

A glance around the room let her see Roma in another bed parallel to hers across the room, and the boy slept peacefully, something that was mildly comforting. After that was Dr. Light himself, at his desk and dealing with paperwork.

The girl sat up and tilted her head a little, surprised to feel that it wasn't aching in the same way it was prior, "Oi," She called to him, eyes dull and tired-looking. "What did you do to me?"

"Touched your no-no places." Light replied nonchalantly, before tossing a small piece of candy towards her. Still with his eyes focused on his paperwork, he continued, "Don't move your leg for awhile. I highly recommend moving out in the morning instead."

"...Thanks." She muttered, taking the small candy and instead tossing it into Roma's bed. Then, she lied back and crossed her arms, thinking about the events that had transpired earlier…

'Slaves at your disposal to be exact..'

'The male before you is my grandson. My sister gave birth to your mother, who eventually gave birth to you. Which makes you my grand-niece, and him, your cousin.'

Suddenly angry, she pinched her skin rapidly, her eyes glowing an even brighter gold.

Light managed to see it out of the corner of his eye, and slowly turned towards her, unaware of the cause of such a reaction. Tilting his head a bit, he went ahead and addressed it, "Would you like more anesthesia? I don't mind putting you into a forced rest if you need it."

"No. I'll… Just, no. I can't." Rena shook her head at the thought, before pointing at Roma, eyes narrowed and still glowing, "What you can do is wake his ass up for me. That would be good."

Light glanced at her, and then the sleeping male, before nodding, respecting her decision. Then, took one of his throwing darts, and threw one right into Roma's back. It stuck, and the brunette jumped straight into the air with a loud yelp.

"He's awake now."

A shadow cast over Rena's face and a bright shine came from her eyes. The vein on her forehead popped out again, and her muscles flared. The hand that wasn't in a fucked state was cocked into a dark fist, and a menacing aura surrounded her body.

The brunette had dark circles underneath his eyes, and was still half-asleep despite the searing pain in his lower back. That led to an unwise decision, like looking her up and down, before spitting at her feet, "The fuck do you want, punk?"

It wasn't the wisest course of action, because what followed was Rena swinging her legs off of the bed, standing up, and then lunging for Roma. The woman laid down a flurry of fists and stomps, all the way to the point where her stitches ended up torn again.

When she was finished with him, it looked in all honesty like he needed the doctor more than she did - something that was not lost on her while she returned to her own bed with her arms crossed, "Help him before he dies or something."

Light raised an eyebrow, especially since she had beaten him to a pulp, "You sure you don't want him to?" He couldn't help but question, lighting up and puffing out smoke from a cigar.

"Doesn't fuckin matter." Rena muttered coldly in response, rolling onto her side and closing her eyes, "Is there anyone else I can beat up? I'm pissed. Really pissed."

"If you can't help it, then there's several people who come to mind, not that it makes a difference. Anyway, why are you so intent on fighting?" The doctor asked, chucking the cig at Arthur who winced and sat straight up, unable to remove it himself.

"...cuz I'm mad." Rena kept muttering, facing away from them and fuming, "Give me names so I can hunt them down and destroy them."

"It doesn't work like that, so quit swinging and sit down, will you?"

Rena rolled her eyes at the doctor's response, but looked to Roma who was still squirming about due to the cigar. Growling, she came over and swiped it off of him, before crawling atop of him and pulling him by his collar.

"See what you did?! See what you did just by fucking existing?! You ruined everything, everything! Either my life is fucked, or Yuuta's life is fucked and I get a fucking knife embedded in my leg, and a slap so bad that it gives me a horrible nosebleed and a concussion on top of a concussion!

Not only did you fuck that up for me, I learned something today that I wish I never learned! Ever! So now, I feel more lost, hurt, confused, abandoned, and betrayed ever. And it's all your fucking fault. You don't get it, you just don't! I 'm not at the top because I want to be, I'm there so I can protect everyone else from him! Goddamnit!! You ruined every-fucking-thing. Everything!"

Rena's face was hot with anger, and the tears that spilled from the corners of her eyes stained her cheeks. Her eyes were glowing in frustration as she stared down at Roma, who sat there in silence. He had listened to her words, and took them seriously.

…but even despite that fact, they didn't resonate with him. At least, not nearly as much as Rena would've preferred for them to. Still, out of respect, he did the only thing he could in this position: sit down, shut up, and take all of her words head-on.

A silence befell the room, and with a loud sniffle, she unmounted him, swinging her legs around and off of the bed, starting to make her way to the door despite the pain she was in. Her thigh was still bleeding, but at this point, she couldn't care less. It meant nothing to her.

"I wouldn't go through with whatever you plan on doing if I were you." The Doctor warned Rena, watching her movement from out of the corner of his eye. Her mental state was too unstable, and she, too dangerous in general right now.

But she struck the wall next to her with her fist, cracking it, before looking at him out of the corner of her own eye. Her eyes were still glowing, and muscles still flared, only confirming his thinking on the stability front. She was well known for her strength, but when she lived on the streets, it was her aggression and temper that she was associated with the most.

"The hell did you say to me? Don't tell me what to do, unless you want to end up like him." She warned. That said street mentality was surfacing, triggered by the intense emotions that she felt. The methodology served to be a mask for her, just like her dullness. But, the dullness was only a bandaid at this point. She needed the mask.

That's when Light sighed and crossed one leg over the other. He was no idiot. There was no point in reasoning with someone who refused to be reasonable. It'd be a waste of his breath, and a perfectly usable office. As such, he sat in silence, letting Rena continue to vent.

Though she glared towards Arthur yet again, and felt her skin start to boil, fuming yet again, "I should stab you with a fuckin knife in your thigh and see how you like being at the top. I'll work you for 24 hours and 7 days, every fuckin week, and see how the fuck you are after all of it! Hey, hey, where can I find a drug that'll keep him awake forever? I'll shove that shit in your veins, and watch you slowly die inside!"

Rena began to pant, a sweat breaking out along her entire body. She growled angrily and clenched her fists tightly… only to feel herself become embraced from behind.

"Release it. Let that anger be free. Eliminate all distractions. Lose love for everything. Trust no one and nothing but yourself. Be the Devil I taught you to be and raise all hell."

She remembered those words from so many years ago.. That voice.. The voice of her savior, of the Director of the Academy.

And suddenly, something snapped. Her aura completely changed. It was alarming, and extremely dangerous. Her expression was that of a predator's, ready to tear its prey apart. The look in her eyes was wild and frightening, containing a red glare within them.

At this moment, she truly was ready to kill.

"Eliminate him, Rena Koboko."

Rena suddenly roared, and then lunged towards Arthur, nobody and nothing else existing except for him and her.
