I wake up to the sound of my alarm clock blaring through the house. I open my eyes to my head pounding and my vision a little blurry. I notice my stomach is growling loud and my throat is dry.
I get up from my squeaky bed and go to the bathroom down the hall and throw up. I didn't have a hang over and I definitely wasn't sick. I hadn't eaten anything but 4 monsters since a week ago. No wonder I was throwing up.
I go downstairs to my parents already screaming at each other about some dumb grown up stuff.
"Mom do we have any food yet?" I ask trying to get my dad to calm down.
"Not yet sweetie. I haven't gotten my paycheck yet." She says in a slightly pissed tone.
I say okay and I head back up stairs and get my shit together and walk to school. I stop by the
Convenient store on the corner and grab a monster with my last $5 bill in my pocket that has obviously been in the washing machine about 4 times. Surprised no one took it actually.
When I get to my class I realized Im 5 minutes late once again.
"Sorry Sir." I say sipping my monster.
"Thats okay Elliot. Sit down please." Mr. Hang knows about my family life so he excuses my Tarde's. He feels bad for me but sometimes I use that to my advantage. When I ask to leave early because I have to go work, I just go to the nearest library and find the best book there and sit and a corner and read til it's about dark. I only have work on Thursdays and Fridays. I still haven't told him that.
I have a friend named Jace. Jace Barmen. He is the complete opposite than me. He's rich as hell, drives a sports car, has 2 loving parents, extremely popular (his words not mine) and he always has money in his pocket. I normally stay there on the weekends to get out of the house but sometimes even Jaces house it's a little hard.
Ive known Jace since I was in 5th grade. Ive referred to him as my big brother because I follow him and wherever he goes. Nobody ever notices that we hang out a lot, Ive always been known as "That kid with Jace" Ya know? Never had my own name in school.
Now that it's our junior year I thought that people would actually know my name but now but I was very wrong.
I hear a voice from behind me as im waking towards the bathrooms. "Hey El!" Its Jace. He's always called me that.
"Hey Jay. How's your day been?" I ask still walking away from him.
"Good. Here, I brought you pancakes from this morning." He handed me a box with warm pancakes and a box of syrup inside.
"McDonald's?" I ask.
"Duh. Have you eaten anything today other than those monsters you always drink?" He turns to me as we walk into the bathroom together.
"Sure." I say going on my phone. I actually didn't.
"Okay good. How bout you how has your day been?"
"It's been okay. Same ol', Same ol'."
After a while of talking in the bathroom with Jace, I realize it's been 30 minutes since I've left class and I quickly gather myself to get ready to deal with people again. If you can't tell by now I hate talking to people. Or just being around them in general.
I slump down into my seat and put my head down thinking about how I'm gonna afford to pay off my phone bill this month. Its in a week and I don't get my paycheck til the week after. I might just have to live without my phone for a week. Ive done it for a month before. Im used to it by now.
I fall asleep to the sound of Mr. Hangs voice lecturing students about math equations.
