Chapter 39 - Cousin

Hailey sat down on the sofa beside her parents.

"How have you been dear? You gave us quite a lovely surprise." mom said to her.

"I'm fine mom. I was bored so I decided to visit." she answered.

"It's okay. How's Jeremy?" she asked.

"He's fine. He went to work." she explained.

"Oh okay!" The room was silent for awhile until Hailey broke it.

"Where's Stacey? Is she in?" she asked.

"Oh yes! Stacey's in her bedroom. Your cousin Hannah came around for the holidays. She's in the room with Stacey." mum replied.

"I'm gonna go see them." She said and excused herself. She walked up the stairs and headed to Stacey's room. From a distance, she could hear their voices. She knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" Stacey's voice echoed from inside.

"It's me Stace." she replied. Stacey recognized her sister's voice and opened the door immediately.

"OMG! Hailey!" she shouted and giggled. They hugged each other. Just then, Hannah came out to meet them.

"Well look who we have here? How are you Hannah?" Hailey asked her.

"I'm fine cousin Hailey." she replied. Hailey gave her a little hug.

Hannah was Stacey and Hailey's paternal cousin. Hannah's dad was Mr Roberts younger brother and she was his youngest child. She was seven years old. She was the only daughter of her dad. She had two older brothers. She always spent the holidays with her cousins since she was three years old.

The trio entered the room and Hailey landed on Stacey's soft bed.

"So soft!" she exclaimed.

"I'm surprised Jeremy allowed you to come see us!" Stace said.

"Hey Jeremy is not a monster. Of course he allowed me, you're my family." She replied.

"You're right though." Stacey sat on the bed beside her sister.

"So tell me what have you guys been up to?" She asked.

"We were just playing Scrabble before you came in." Hannah answered.

"Interesting, mind if I join in?" She asked

"Yeah sure!" They sat down to play the game. Stacey started the game but at the end Hannah got the highest point defeating Hailey and Stacey. Hannah was a very smart girl.

"I won!" She said in victory.

"Congratulations Hannah!" Hailey congratulated her.

The two sisters laughed at their little cousin who was feeling like a because she won. Hailey and the girls left the room and met mom who was at the balcony. Hailey met mom while the others went to eat.

"So how's everything?" Mum asked her.

"Fine mom." She replied.

"That's good." The two ladies discussed about different things. Hailey later had lunch and spent the rest of her time with her mom, sister and cousin. It was already 5pm and she decided to leave.

"I have to go now mom." she said.

"So soon, no don't go yet!" Hannah said holding her hand.

"Oh Hannah, I promise to come visit some other time." She assured her but the girl wouldn't give in.

"No!No! I want to follow you!" she stated.

"Hannah, you can't follow Hailey home!" Stace said to her.

"Nooooo!" The little said almost in tears. Stacey was about to get hold of her when mom intervened.

"Leave her alone Stace. Hailey would you like to take her with you?" Mom asked Hailey.

"That won't be a bad idea. Yes I'll take her." She answered.

"Fine. You can take her but Jones will come get her the day after tomorrow. Do you agree?"

"Yes Mom. That ain't no problem. Thank you." She replied.

Hannah ran up the stairs and Stacey helped her to arrange her bag. The little girl was so excited.
