"Motherfucker." Devotion gasped under his breath, clambering up the final few rungs of the ladder. "I'm never climbing a ladder again."
Devotion looked around the surface, catching his breath. That strange mist was no longer in the area, and it was completely clear. Now Devotion could actually see what he was walking through. All around him was a rolling plain, with no visible trees or other protrusions.
It was almost eerie, seeing such flat ground. The one good thing about that is there was nowhere for someone to hide to ambush him. Devotion's concerns were quickly stowed. There was no way the leader of that other group was waiting for him, or at least, not in the general area. Maybe he really had bought Devotion's act and would turn things around. That would be somewhat comical.
