"But you can't spill a word of it. Okay?" Sage said, observing her as if his eyes were lasers. "Ofcourse. That is what you call a secret." Kett replied, rolling her eyes. "Alright then. Come with me."
They were heading back towards the hall way as he suddenly turned their way into a different part of the hospital. He lead her into a long passage which made them far away from the rest of the asylum. "This is the kitchen." He said pointing at a room with no door. He took her hand and entered the kitchen. It was a very big room indeed. There were like hundred plates and cups neatly piled at one side while all kinds of pans and pots were packed in another corner. "This is where all our food come from." Sage said. "I've not tasted them yet." Kett told him. "Oh really? So you're new?" Kett nodded her head, suddenly feeling like an intruder. "No wonder I haven't spotted you before." With that he suddenly pulled her away and pushed themselves up into an old cupboard. "What's going on?" Kett couldn't stop her mouth. "Shush! It's the cook." He whispered in her ear as they peered out of the tiny opening of the cupboard door. "So we're sneaking?" Kett asked like a dumb child. "Ofcourse we are."
The cook was a man who was in his late 40s. He looked remarkably strict and terrifying. His eyebrows curved and his lips frowned as he murmered a song at his work. His voice could make anyone deaf which literally made Kett cover her ears with her hands. Sage smiled at her reaction. "That man really is a big deal. You better not put your toes out of his line if you don't want yourself facing a disaster, you know." "What do you mean?" "There are bad rumours about him. Some say that he punish the patients who gets in his way, even though he has no authority to do so. It's a fortune that he didn't hear your outburst, a few minutes ago." "Why does this boy sound like a total know-it-all?" Kett thought. "Don't forget that I can hear your mind, girl." He said as she frowned her eyebrows at him. The cook went out of the kitchen, probably to bring some more ingredients. That's when Sage made his move and made his way out of the cupboard. He went towards one of the cabinets in the other side of the kitchen and opened the door. Kett was really amazed by the next thing he did. He inserted his fingers into a small hole in the wood at the back of the cabinet and moved it aside. Then he glided in through the hole. "Come on! Hurry." He told Kett. Kett followed him in through the hole.
After a few minutes of gliding, Kett set her foot on the other side of the hidden tunnel. It was such a sight to see that she kept her mouth wide open for the next couple of minutes. Until she saw Sage's smirking face and closed her mouth. "You like this, huh?" He asked, smiling. "I guess so. But what exactly is this place?" "Good question."
