Chereads / Cursed To Be A Red Rose / Chapter 16 - RED ROSE IN THE TOWER

Chapter 16 - RED ROSE IN THE TOWER

There was nothing special about the old tower. It was just a forty-foot-tall tower with a stone structure. The rock was black, so it was probably basaltic rock from a volcano.

There was indeed a volcano in Shovalon, but the volcano was no longer active. So, the black stones used to build the tower were probably the stones that came out from the eruptions many years ago.

There was no lighting in the tower, so the prince and his trusted guard had to carry torches when climbing the stairs.

It was only tonight that the prince had time to visit the tower as he had to deal with some matters throughout the day today, so they had to rely on the torches.

"The tower is very damp, Your Highness. You must be careful with your steps," Connad warned the prince because the steps on the stairs were covered in moss.

The prince also brought a torch in his right hand, and he could see how thick moss was covering the steps on the stairs.

"I don't think anyone has ever visited this tower, Your Highness. There may be nothing we can find in this tower," Connad spoke again as he began to doubt the prince's decision to inspect the tower.

It was his idea to inspect the tower, but it was still due to the prince's decision that they ended up climbing the damp stairs inside the tower tonight.

"No," replied Prince Reigen firmly when he suddenly stopped walking. "Just look down, and you'll see that some parts are covered only by a light moss while others are covered by thick moss. I'm sure someone used to climb these stairs every day."

Connad also stopped walking, and he set his sights to look down at the stairs as instructed. Prince Reigen was right, he could see how different the moss was from one area to another. He frowned at the sight, but he agreed with the prince's analysis.

Prince Reigen may not be as smart as the Crown Prince, but the second prince of Breviel was still smarter than most people. He could even analyze it when there was only limited light inside the tower.

"There might be something on top of this tower. Let's continue our search all the way to the top of this tower," the prince spoke again as he started walking.

Connad had no choice but to start walking as well.

They continued up the stairs until they finally reached the top floor of the tower. There was a locked door upstairs that greeted their eyes. Yes, it was a door made of thick wood, and it had a chain with a lock on it.

'Someone deliberately locked the door from the outside, so there might be something valuable behind that door,' Prince Reigen had that assumption in his heart.

"Do you think you'll be able to open the door, Connad? I don't think it's just an ordinary door, and maybe you can't only rely on your powers because the wood looks so thick."

Even the prince could sound very pessimistic, but Connad only smiled calmly before replying, "If you don't mind, could you hold this torch for a moment, Your Highness? I can try opening the lock using a method if you let me to."

Prince Reigen frowned at the blue-haired man, but he still gestured for the man to hand the torch to him. Connad understood the nonverbal command and immediately handed over the torch.

There were two torches in the prince's hands now, and he used one of them to illuminate his guard.

The guard walked towards the door before pulling something out of his pocket. Prince Reigen studied the man, and he furrowed his dark brows when he saw his guard take out something like a wire from his pocket.

Prince Reigen didn't know what his guard was going to do, so he could only wait in silence as the guard tried to open the lock.

Connad threaded the wire into the lock hole as if using it instead of a key, and after several minutes of trying to open the lock, the man finally managed to break the lock. The lock miraculously opened because of Connad's skillful hands.

Prince Reigen looked amused as he said, "Don't tell me you have a side job as a thief, Connad."

The black-haired prince spoke coldly, but it sounded like a joke to Connad's ears. That was why he chuckled as he tried to untie the chains on the door.

The prince was not someone who liked to joke around, but sometimes, his words were funny to other people's ears. That was why Connad dared to laugh in front of the prince.

The thick door finally opened, but the two men couldn't see anything in the room because the room was so dark with no light.

There was a hint of doubt on the prince's face, but he still motioned for Connad to enter the mysterious room.

The torches were still in the prince's hands, and it seemed he had no intention of handing them over to the guard.

Instead, Prince Reigen led the way to enter the room as he once again walked in front of his guard. He walked further into the room, and he realized that the room was not very spacious.

He cast his gaze around him, but he didn't find anything special in the room. The room was very humid, and he saw nothing of interest in the room.

He walked further with two torches in his hands, and his steps suddenly came to a halt as the torches in his hands illuminated the area by the window.

It was a moonless night, so no light came through the windows.

However, the two torches in his hands were enough to illuminate an object by the window.

The second prince of Breviel frowned as he focused his gaze on the object.

"Why is there a red rose in a place like this?" He couldn't help but voice his curiosity.
