Chapter 18 - 2.6 : IS THAT HOW YOU SEE ME?

Well, finally, the ceremony was done. And I know that the pacing seemed too drastic and hard to follow with, so please bear with me and I apologize in advance. Life's not the same every day. Some days, an hour feels like a year, and some days, an hour feels like a minute. It's safe to say, the past week has felt like a millennial to me.

From a normal college student to a sudden stranger in an unknown time-space vortex, where I was getting chewed out by an old man, who's already dead. I don't know what makes sense and what doesn't anymore.

It's just like when someone, who cherishes R&B music, is suddenly thrown into a hardcore metal band concert. I think you should probably understand it by now. Not unheard of, but the stark contrast between them is quite baffling until you get used to it. Ah, wait! It's more like pop music and country music. Yeah, that makes more sense.

Anyway, the deed was done. Wait, that doesn't sound right. This is why I hate bonding with people for whatsoever reason. To hold a conversation at their level, I have to continually emphasize their points, which means I have to concentrate and listen to what they're saying, which in hindsight gives me less time to react, and I end up uttering some non-sensical stuff.

We made our way back to my place, in one piece. The place was all intact. I looked around to check if everything was alright. Phew! Nothing's wrong.

Man! What a hassle. To undergo all that, and then be humiliated right at the end in such a fashion. I can't believe that I stooped so low that I thought of kissing her just to get her attention. But luckily, it didn't happen. I wonder what kind of face she would have had if I kissed her? The face of disgust, humiliation, or whatever? Anyway, I couldn't care less.

I mean, the beauty of her standards would probably have dated at least one or two handsome hunks, and she would have definitely kissed them, on more than multiple occasions, so that's not a bother. Plus, I'm just her servant now, that's what those outlandish titles refer to. I'm expendable, so I'll make you of my skills, die, probably aiming for a noble death, and then be replaced.

Apart from there, as feeble as it may look from a third person's perspective, there is still some stuff I must take care of that constitutes my everyday life. I just can't suddenly act like everything will set on its own just because I have more important stuff to do now, can I? This ain't a fuckin' sci-fi movie that revolves around the protagonist suddenly getting superpowers, and then his whole life until then suddenly turn prehistoric just like the dinosaurs, millions of years ago.

Still, to think that thing would take such a drastic turn...I looked at the thing around my wrist. It was a bracelet, that had a gem with it. The old man mentioned that since I didn't choose to relinquish my life as a human, in exchange for demon powers, this instrument is the key to channeling my alchemy.

It seemed to be made out of platinum, with a gemstone, that oddly didn't have any color to it, but didn't look like a diamond. The only complaint I have is, once I put it in, I can't seem to be able to unlatch it from my wrist.

The old man also said that I can't use it regularly unless I have a death wish. Yeah, enough pondering about useless stuff. First, I need to escort the lady out from this place. It's more of a ticking time-bomb, for her to be spotted here, for whatsoever reason.

I just made my way out of my room, when suddenly, something hit my face hard. "Ouch!" I was nursing my face to see what happened. Luckily, nothing major to worry about, I looked at the object that was tossed at me, at such a concerning speed, and no wonder, the source to check what's the issue.

"Is that...what you think about me?" I was rather confused about this sudden inquiry. "I'm sorry, what?"

"I said, is that what you think about me? About us, and this situation? Is that what you want, with your life?" It can't be right. There's no possibility that she can read my mind...Wait a minute! From what the old man explained to me, he did say something of the sort of telepathy, in abundance. Argh! I screwed up!

"Yes! I did. So, what are you going to do about it?"

"Why can't you just be a little optimistic about your life, at least for once?"

"Hey! Don't act as you know me, alright?"

"And what if I do?"

"Well, I'd say you're bluffing, just to get my attention."

"And what if, I say, that with the power bestowed in me, I can see the memories of your past? What will you do then?"

"Hmm...Alright. I see. So that's how it is?"

"Don't complicate the situation any further than it is."

"You're the one that should hold her ground and just reprimand towards her partner, not abuse your power just to get the power dynamics of the relationship."

"Is that what you think it is?"

"What I think, is none of your business, alright? My only job is to be your serv...I'm sorry, it's to be your knight, and help you till you're coronated as the queen of the demon realm. So, I'm just offering my skills in exchange for...I don't even know what it is I seek. That's it. The life I lead, or the decisions I take, or the mistakes I make, as long as they don't concern you, all account for one thing. And that is...it's none of your business. I hope you understand that. Now please, leave me alone."
