He looked over at his Stepmother, Sheril, she was really living the life. Her skin looks really fresh and soft just like a baby's own. Perhaps no one will ever be able to guess that she was his Father's current wife and that she had given birth already.
He looked at his Old man and at the Stepmother, it was really opposites apart.
At the thought of this, Coram chuckled.
"Coram dear, you are finally home. Your Father and I have missed you so very much" Sheril said, her eyes teary already. Sheril didn't try to hug him, she knew he'll avoid it, so she decided to save herself the embarrassment.
Coram eyed Sheril, if he has not seen her with her mask removed perhaps he might have fallen for her "goody goody little two shoes" act. Since the time she moved in to their house, she started scheming against him inorder to make his Father hate me, she never did it so straight forward, so his father would think that she was doing it for his own good and agree with her ideas.
'I started home-schooling because of her, she told my Old man that I was behaving weirdly because I still miss my mother, and that I would not be able to concentrate and interact freely with other students in school. She said it would be better for me to recuperate at home. But of course, he really reason was to stop me from making any new friends, from having connections that matter. All my old friends who came visiting when they didn't see me in school anymore, she made it seem like I said I didn't need them anymore. She made me attend psychiatrist sessions whenever I misbehaved, told my Old man that it was to heal me cause I was still hurt on the inside. She literally ruined my life because of her precious son.'
But he was grown up now and the only thing stopping him from ruining their life was the promise he made to his mother before she left.
**Flashback in a Flashback**
Sound of wheels moving against the tiles could be heard. A slightly haggard looking woman was wheeling a suitcase and moving towards the door, but on closer look, her beautiful features will be seen. Ones l body-built guard was 'escorting' her from behind.
"Mom!"
A little boy of 6, 7 bearing much resemblance to a girl, ran down the stairs... This boy was little Coram.
The lady paused when she heard his voice... she turned back to look at him. His eyes were red, showing that he had been crying.
"Mom, Dad said you are leaving us... Is it true?" The earnest look on the boy's face waiting for her to shake her head in the denial, brought tears to her eyes.
The woman looked at the guard that her husband... or ex... or whatever has instructed to follow her out and said,
"Can you please give me a minute with my son?" When she saw that the manpaid no heed to her, she repeated,
"Please, don't worry I wouldn't say anything that I shouldn't..." The woman told the guard again, but he still made no attempt to move from his place.
"Don't you hear what my Mother is saying?! She told you to leave us! This instant!" Little Coram was annoyed.
'How dare a mere guard pay no heed to his Mother?!' Little Coram was already not in a good mood, so he just transferred all his aggression to the guard.
The guard still remained where he was, but internally a great turmoil was going on, should he followed the instructions of Big Sherman or the one of the little Sherman.
"Didn't you hear what I just said?! I am the first some of the Sherman and the heir, how dare you not listen to me?! Who do you think is more important to my Father? You or Me!" Little Coram said to the guard.
The guard was frightened out of his wits, although he didn't show it but it was evident with how quick his retreat steps were.
She bent down to match the little boy's eyes.
"Baby, I'm sorry." That was all she could say, she couldn't even explain the reason of she wanted to. Her husband... no her 'Ex' husband will not allow it based on the deal she had with him.
Little Coram eyes caught sight of the travelling bag at his mom's back and tears started streaming down his eyes.
"Why?"
As the woman looked at the tears in her child's face, she could feel her heart breaking.
Especially since she didn't know how to answer her son.
"Did I do something wrong?" Little Coram was desperately ready to apologize of he was at fault... as long as he could get his mom to change her mind.
"No sweetie... it's not your fault, it's definitely not your fault... Your Father, your father" The woman stopped then she sighed.
"I just have to leave sweetie" The woman kissed the boy on his forehead.
"Be good... you'll have guests that might be staying for a long time... Be good to them, just remember that they are guests."
"Ok mum, but what about you?"
"Come find me when the guests are gone. I'll be waiting for you" The woman said, she hugged little Coram. She stood up and looked at the guard, "I'm done... let's go. Or didn't your Master ask you to make sure. The flight is being delayed o."
The guard bowed to little Coram and followed after the woman.
"Mom?"Little Coram called his mom, in hopes that it was a a joke that she would come back and tell him her and his Father was just joking with him, tell him that she would never leave him.
"Mom??" But she never turned back to him. .
"Mom?!" Little Coram screamed, the woman had already stepped out of the door.
"Mom!!! Please! Come back. Just come back I'll be good. I won't ask for candies anymore or limited editions of toy cars. I just want you.. Though the woman never turned back to her son, but her haggard looking beautiful face was already filled tears, she paused at the back of the entrance, placed her hands on her mouth and cried again.
Little Coram watched as his mom left him behind. After she left, the maids started removing all the frames of his mother from the wall.
"What are you doing?! Leave them... leave them, if you touch my mother's frame I will make sure my Father fires you!" Little Coram shouted.
The butler signaled the maids to retreat, he pitied the little Young Master that has just lost his Mother and was about to lose everything else.
"Mother said we'll be having some guests soon, go prepare to receive them... the boy said to the butler.
When the Butler heard what Little Coram said, he felt more pity for him... 'Guests?'
"Yes, Young Master"
"Madam, your flight?" The bodyguard accorded the right respect to the woman.
The woman started walking, but as she walked a certain distance, she saw a sight that made her stop - It was her husband's former secretary that he fired because of her, 'Why was she here?'
She kept on watching her, then she saw that the woman went to the other side of the car and opened it. A little boy younger than her son came down from the car.
She wasn't sure of the identity of the woman before but she just felt that it must have been a woman and her instincts was right.
She looked at the little boy walking by the woman's side, 'That must be their child. I pray Coram will survive and that he will uphold his promise to me to keep my son save.'
The woman looked at the mansion behind her one last time, got into the car and left.
The other woman, who was Sheril, with her son, Charles, entered into the mansion.
As they entered they were welcomed by Little Coram.
Little Coram had long gone to make himself more presentable.
"You are welcome to the Sherman's home. The butler will show you to your rooms."
Sheril for one was quite shocked by the level of hospitality the boy showed. She expected him to throw a fit to his Father and to show them no due respect. So she bent down and asked,
"Little boy, what's your name?"
"Coram Sherman, the first son of the Shermans"
"Then do you know who we are?"
"Yes..." Sheril was surprised but then little Coram continued,
"... aren't you the guests that mom said was going to arrived today? Don't worry I know exactly who you are." Little Coram finished.
Sheril's eye twitched in anger but she knew now was not the time, as they were watchful eyes everywhere. Peter still had some feelings for this son of his, but it will be gone soon, all in good time.
The little boy next to Sheril, was not like his mother, so he immediately burst out,
"What guests?! We are not guest, mother said that she is now the new lady of the house and that I am the Young Master now, as for you you are nothing"
Little Coram was shocked when he heard this, 'What do they mean? This was not what Mother told him and Father also never mentioned anything about this'
