Chapter 19 - A Haunted Mansion?

Completely forgetting about the weird phenomenon that I had just experienced.

I gawked at what was in front of me.

"Did I just teleport into a horror movie or what?"

I asked out loud pinching myself in the process.

'Nope, it's real'

I sighed, completely overwhelmed and frightened as I walked around, admiring,

'I am standing in front of a freaking spooky mansion'.

Despite the fact that it was quite ancient and falling apart it still looked extremely white in the pale moonlight peeking through the clouds.

It created a huge contrast with the darkness behind the broken windows.

"Wow it really looks haunted" I noted as a shiver ran down my spine.

There was an enormous fountain in front of the structure with a half-broken statue of a woman in the middle.

This place clearly looked abandoned for at least a decade.

Taking another deep breath, I rubbed the goosebumps on my arms as I got closer to the entrance.

'There was a different aura about this place,

one that could easily terrify but also intrigue a person,

I was that person,

very stupid I know but currently I didn't see another choice because I definitely wasn't going back to my car right now'

"Being in the company of a ghost was always better than a murderer"

I shrugged as I walked around,

finally noticing the thick fog forming on the ground,

almost completely ingulfing my feet.

Another chill ran down my body as I got closer to the towering front doors that easily looked over 3 meters tall and quite heavy,

as if keeping whatever secret this place holds safely locked away.

Upon getting closer I suddenly tripped over a rock-like object and almost smashed my head against the door but quickly stood up and fixed my attire as I looked around me,

feeling embarrassed like there was even a single soul watching me.

"Great, I'm embarrassing myself in front of the ghosts now"

I sighed shaking my head when a sign hanging by the door caught my attention.

Squinting my eyes,

I rubbed the dust off the sign to get a closer look and my eyes widened upon realization.

"What the fuck!"

I stumbled backwards, holding my hand on my mouth in shock.

"I'm supposed to live here!?" I whisper-shouted pointing at the place as I moved backwards.

"This can't be? I mean I wasn't expecting much,

maybe a humble home that may require some renovation but this"

I mumbled as I looked up at the structure in front of me in despair.

"This looks like a full-on haunted house at a Halloween festival"

I whispered as if afraid of offending the feelings of whatever entities resided in this place.

"I definitely should've trusted my gut,

coming here was a freaking mistake and signing the lease was even a bigger one"

I groaned as I bit my nail, contemplating on what to do next.

As if all this was not enough,

I could now hear the sound of wolves howling at a distance.

'Fantastic! tonight was just getting better and better (note the sarcasm) '.

"You know what,

fuck it,

a little spookiness never hurt anyone"

I decided as I ran to up to the door again fumbling with the keys in my bag while also keeping an eye on my surroundings.

Finally placing the key in the keyhole in a rush I muttered a quick prayer

"God, please don't be rusted" as I turned the key.

With no difficulty or resistance, the lock clicked as the doors opened with a loud creak, the sound echoing off of the walls as it 'welcomed' me in.
