"Rhea…"
"Kiaan. Welcomed back. We missed you. Many things happened while you were away." Rhea cried. Everyone looked at this very heart-warming scene. The reporters flocked in and took the pictures of Rhea, Kiaan and the kids hugging.
"Son!"
"Dad! Mom! Adriel!" Kiaan was too happy as he hugged his people.
"Daddy, mommy was disowned by her parents." Rex said. "We were present when they signed the documents."
It was before Rex ruined the whole moment with his reports but the big boys winked at him. He immediately stopped.
Kiaan was helped back to sit on the bed and the next big event started. The two younger boys stood on both his sides, the big boys stood at the back and the girls stood by their mother.
"Daddy… this!" Carly opened the small expensive box and the two rings lay on the soft surface gracefully that everyone who was present admired them. Carly was the ring bearer.
Camila held the rings out to her parents. Everyone marveled. It was too good to be real. Just there in hospital, the two got engaged in front of Kiaan's parents, the people who were around including the journalists.
"I love you and promise to stand by you in everything and in every aspect of life. Even when the whole world decides to reject us, am ready to go wherever you go." Rhea Azaan said.
"I promise everything. Whatever you want, whatever you go through, I'll always be with you. Even if it means risking my life to prove my love." Kiaan said.
The rings shone on their fingers. It was a beautiful day for them and everyone who watched the clip.
That day, the night was spent at the hospital with the children feeding their dad and everyone being happy and keeping Kiaan company. Except for his parents and Adriel who had to report to work earlier the following day, everyone else remained behind. They then gave him time to rest.
Morning…
When they got up, Kiaan was already taken in for examination. When they helped him back into the room, everyone was waiting.
Dr. Alvin called Rhea outside.
"If you really want him back home, you have to get a personal doctor. And aside from that, help him back here frequently for thorough examinations." Dr. Alvin said.
"Can you be the personal doctor? You've been with him for the last seven months and a I know you can help more than anyone else." Rhea said.
When the party left for home, there was one more person in their company, Dr. Alvin. He accepted to be Kiaan's personal doctor.
Morning…
"Kiaan! Kiaan! What's wrong with you?" Rhea shouted as she banged at the door of the toilet.
That morning Rhea woke up earlier that day to check on Kiaan who had slept earlier but found the room empty. She waited for thirty minutes, the only sound she heard was the frequent flashing of the toilet.
"Am coming…" he called back.
"Don't tell me you're coming, open the door. I've been waiting for half an hour!" Rhea Azaan called
When the answer didn't come, Rhea went over to call Dr. Alvin who came quickly.
Kiaan was seated on the cold floor with swollen limps, breathing hard and holding his chest tight and in pain. His eyes were closed and his face was a bit frowned. Since Rhea had stayed in the room, Dr. Alvin called for a soft towel which he wrapped around Kiaan and then helped him into the bed. After some tests, he came out and sighed.
The children were already up but no one would leave for work before they saw their dad. They were all seated in the living room waiting.
Dr. Alvin signaled Rhea aside.
"Can we see him before we leave?" the children asked.
"Yes. Just go in." Dr. Alvin replied before turning to Rhea. "Yeah, the hypervolemic shock has it's severe after effects and I told you this earlier, right? He is suffering from kidney failure. Though his body resistance beyond normal, you have to understand that he is still weak. However, much he tries, something has to be done."
"The swollen limbs are a result of fluid retention into the body. Kidney failure is accompanied by many signs including shortness of breath, chest pain, fatigue, comma and many more."
In the room…
The children sat on the bedside caressing their dad.
"Dad get well for us."
"Dad you need to get well really. You haven't visited your company yet."
"For the sake of mommy, get well."
"Dad will definitely b fine ok? Don't worry. Am planning of getting well and staying here with you. An you imagine how happy we will be." Kiaan told them.
"Yeah. And dad, be extra strong." Henry said. Kiaan laughed.
"Babies, time to get to work." Rhea called out. Hutson walked in to get them and leave.
"They're really the best people to have around." Rhea walked in smiling after sending the children away.
"I see. Am sure you never got bored while I was away." Kiaan said.
"Well, umm… I kind of had enough company but without you here, that's really a different story." Rhea said.
"Sorry about that but finally am back."
"Yeah, am happy. But Dr. Alvin said you need a kidney transplant before you get back to your feet." Rhea said.
"I didn't say I want a kidney transplant. That's not going to happen. Am very fine." Kiaan said standing up.
"ok…" Rhea gently pushed him back. "If you don't agree with it, just try and be careful. At least don't rush yourself ok? You aren't ok, you are still not fine, you are still weak."
"But I have to wake up ok? I can't stay in bed just because I was sick."
Meanwhile…
At the Azaan home.
Mr. Amor Azaan sat in the living room lost in thoughts. Since when Rhea left, their family fame disappeared. He realized it was really true and his daughter was someone more important to him than he thought earlier. Then, he once thought that after disowning her, she would come back begging to be taken back but he was wrong. There was luck wherever she went and now what the media was concerned about was the Tilden company started by his own daughter in respect to her almost dying sweetheart, then the government was supporting her and just few yesterday, a happy family had gone to pick up Kiaan who was now awake.
Avery walked in and slapped a newspaper on the table.
"See what you did? Amor, you opened a way of luck to Rhea. Am not mad about her being happy and lucky, am mad about you being a careless father. You did what you did out of anger. You didn't care about what your daughter feels, what she thinks?" Avery shouted.
"Shut up woman!" Amor roared.
"I used to shut up and respect you as the head of the family, at least you had that chance, that privilege to talk on my face without considering my opinion. What happened afterwards? The company already shut down. No fame, no money plus no child. We look like some old forks who lived a very boring life!"
"What's wrong with you? She refused to listen to us and…" Amor was stopped by Avery.
"And? And what? And she is happy with another family? Engaged with no parents around? Started and running a company which earns twice more than the fallen State Azaan company? And has three set of talented twins?"
The two argued for long until Avery Azaan finally calmed down and wept for her loss. She had lived a peaceful high-class life with only her daughter to worry about. But now, she was desperate to have her daughter back. Someone she had valued all her life.
