Chapter 6 - THE WOOD

Obasi and Chem-vou now both sit by the fire, it was a chilly night. The 2 were warm from the alcohol sitting in their bodies.

Obasi asked Chem-vou for some information about who these descendants are. and what is the history of the tower? He figured that if he asked someone who was a local to the land, he could get some insider information that could possibly help him in the future.

(He's an intuitive one)

Chem-vou had smiled and paused for a moment before taking off his hat and placing it next to him.

"He he, who told you about those fairytales?"

I explained that the sphinx Kevin and a little angel told him so.

"Oh... I see. There was this story I heard of often when I was a child"…

Long ago when the tower was still young, there was a man who sailed across the sea from an unknown land. He had set his sights on the tower to not only climb and conquer the tower, but to change the world. His quick rise to the top slowly caught all the eyes of those who were willing to watch. He had gained a huge amount of popularity by figuring out a way to enter and exit the tower as he pleased. He was given the name "Mustafa Roy" which translates to "Chosen King''. He too bore white hair and was rumored to be one of the ancient races of people called "The Nephilim." But one day he left all his belongings to his disciples, and returned to the tower never to be heard from again. People began to speculate if he had lost his mind, others believe that he returned to the tower to sit upon a throne to become a king, some might say, even a God perhaps.

"But all that stuff is just an urban legend, stories made up by the people to attract tourists and such. There is no actual evidence of his existence, and all of his so called disciples were no were to be found."

I stared off into space reflecting on what was said by Chem-vou.

"Maybe the king?...The Nephilim peaked my interest" I thought to myself as I rubbed my hands together above the warm crackling fire.

"Is that all, and who were the disciples?"

Chem-vou laughed and patted his big hands on my head.

"Those are answers, I do not have, but I do have a heed of warning upon entering the tower. There are very skilled individuals that travel far across the world just like you. You must be cautious when ascending the tower. Here take this."

Chem-vou then handed me a log book, the title read "Beast Encyclopedia Index"

"This has been the book I used to document and track the beast and creatures of this land, There's at least 45 years of information in there. I'm sure that it could help you in the tower, cause only God knows what that Tower of Hell."

I opened up the book and sifted through the numerous pages. He was perplexed by the sheer number of beasts Chem-vou has come across in his lifetime. He then turned to a section of empty pages. "You should fill the rest of those up. I could use some information about the beasts of the tower..that's enough stories for tonight, I'm going to get some shut eye." Chem-vou had got up from where he was sitting and walked into the tent and went to sleep.

The night time was super quiet now that I was the only one up. I guess I'll sleep under the stars tonight, although it was a little cold, the fire was enough to keep me comfortable. I hated sleeping though, I would often have nightmares about my village burning into flames, hearing and feeling the screams of terror and fear.

Moments had gone by, and I was awoken by Fowler who was way too close for comfort.

"Hey mate, you fancied a hunting trip didn't yah? If you want to come now's the time, move swiftly white hair."

Fowler had darted off into the bush of the wood. I layed there for a brief second contemplating the pros and cons of the situation. On one hand I could play the safe card and just stay here and wait until dawn, or I could get some extra practice in… I quickly grabbed my sword and hat and chased after Fowler into the dark wood.

We had been walking deep into the wood, my concept of time was fucked because the trees covered the skies light from peaking in. A small river also led throughout the woods, in fact we followed the river deeper and deeper. It was complete and total darkness, although my eyes did eventually adjust. Fowler on the other hand had no problem moving in the dark, he seemed to be able to see as clear as day. All these years of hunting must give him some type of edge. We walked a little deeper into the woods and we saw Makya.

Fowler gives a little bird noise that gets Makya's attention. Makya had been hiding behind a massive stone boulder covered in vines and moss. Ahead of her was a clear opening by a small pool where the river led into. The moon's light beamed onto the water reflecting beautiful arrays of light. The light also danced on Makya's face, she was focused and sharp, her silver hair matched the nighttime.

While I was daydreaming…or would it be regular dreaming since its nighttime…lol I don't know. Fowler had noticed something in the by the rivershore in the distance, but he couldn't make it out.

"Get down you idiots"

Makya was a mean person. She then pointed off in the distance toward where Fowler had been looking earlier. It was a big animal, it seemed to be feeding on the wild game that occupies this forest.

"I go left, you go right." I nodded my head in agreement to Fowler and we headed towards the right side of the river, I scaled the edge of the wood still hidden by the darkness of the light. We were like wolves surrounding our prey, ready to attack. I couldn't handle the excitement, my blood began to heat up and my mind began to lose focus.

Crack!

I stepped on a branch and the noise was really loud, but the animal didn't seem to notice too much. I froze in place ducking down, making sure not to make any more sound. I did get a closer look at the animal and it was a bear, It was massive in size at least twice the size of a polar bear and the mountain bears from home. It had an all black fur undertone with blue fur acting as highlights to it. On it's back it had some sort of bones that looked like jagged rocks popping out of its back.

A few moments earlier…

"Did you hear that crack, that kid is gonna get himself killed. Why did he go off in that direction anyways?"

"Sorry sis, kinda told him to, I mean after all we are trying to capture this Ursa Bear right?"

"If that kid gets hurt in any way, our ass is grass and we'll have to deal with Chem-vou"

"Agreed. I'll trail around back to get him. What's the plan?"

"When you get to him I'll signal you."

"Oh sister you've always inspired me with your words of passion and love"

I had heard rustling in the bushes behind me, I drew my sword out, and waited.

"You alright mate, you're making a lot of noise over here, are you trying to make it's second meal?"

Fowler was such a creepy man, he emerged from the bushes like he was always there, it gave me chills down my spine.

"Caw! Caw! Caw!"

Makya had drawn our eyes on to her, she then pointed upwards. Fowler then began to climb the nearby trees. I followed suit because there's no way I'm staying down here alone with that beast of a bear. The average tree in the forest was massive, at least 50 feet tall. Majority of the branches hung low, which made it easy for us to climb them. Fowler was a monkey swinging from branch to branch, it was like walking to him, it truly amazed me. I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. I slipped and missed a branch, the branch I was clinging onto with my left hand started to crack. I began to fall 20 feet bouncing off the branches on my way down. The moment my body had hit the floor I couldn't breath. The wind was knocked out of me and my head began to spin, I probably had a serious concussion.

"You fucking idiot, you're going to die before you get to that tower if you don't start paying attention! Do not move!"

Fowler was pissed but I was too hurt to care, then I saw the bear stand on its two legs and begin to sniff the air. The bear stood up straight for a minute or two then began to walk on all fours toward me. The adrenaline in my body began to boost back up due to my fight or flight, but moving would be the worst thing now, and I trust Fowler call. It was huge up close, it stood 8 feet on all fours and its shoulders were wide and tall, his upper half was a lot bigger than his lower half, although his lower half was still large. It had scars and cuts all over its face. It's head was massive but I noticed that it's eyes had no colour to them besides a milky grey and white colour. Was it blind? If so I was safe as long as I didn't move a muscle. Fowler then drew his rifle he had with him and pointed it in the direction of the bear. He cocks back the trigger and waits. I then see Makya in the distance point her bow in my direction with an arrow glowing green.

Makya then shouts out to me "Run Obasi" and both Makya and Fowler fire off shots.

The bear had stood up on it two feet and roared into the night sky, sending shockwaves through the leaves and the trees. It was even bigger up close and it seemed to get bigger. This was my chance to escape while it was distracted, with every ounce of strength I had left I yanked my body up off the ground and darted into the bushes.

BACK AT THE CAMPGROUND

Chem-vou and the others were fast asleep.

ROOOAAARR!!

The bear's roar echoed through the edge of the woods reaching the camp. Although everyone was asleep, Chem-vou's eyes slowly open
