Chapter 44 - Chapter XXXVIII

In the dimly lit corridors of the school, Kurmara, Sero, and Mina trod cautiously, their footsteps echoing softly against the walls. As they moved through the left side, their flashlight beams darted across the empty classrooms and deserted hallways, searching for any signs of the intruder they were tasked with finding. Mina and Sero exchanged subtle glances, silently deciding that Sero would be the one to broach the sensitive topic. He walked a little closer to Kurmara, matching her pace. "Hey, are you okay?" Sero finally asked, his voice filled with genuine concern. Kurmara continued walking, sweeping her phone's light across the surroundings, her brows slightly furrowed. "What do you mean?" she responded, her tone slightly guarded. Sero took a moment to choose his words carefully. "I mean... are you mad that we told you about Kirishima? About what we found out?" Sero inquired, his eyes searching for any signs of Kurmara's emotions. She paused for a moment, checking one of the rooms before resuming her stride.

"I'm not mad," she replied, her voice tinged with a mix of resignation and confusion. "I was just... confused." Sero glanced at Mina, who was on the other side, sharing a silent understanding. It was Mina's turn to address Kurmara's heartache delicately. "Did you... talk to him?" Mina asked, her voice filled with genuine curiosity. Kurmara sighed softly, her gaze fixed ahead as she moved through the dimly lit corridors. "I did," Kurmara confirmed. "I told him that if he wants to talk to me again, he actually has to put in that effort. Otherwise, I'm done." Mina nodded, a small smile playing on her lips, while Sero listened attentively. He couldn't help but interject, his voice gentle but firm. "That's good. But, you do know he still likes you, right?" Sero asked, his concern evident in his eyes. Kurmara nodded, her expression a mix of determination and sadness. "I guess I'll have to make sure he knows I'm not going to be with him since I'm already with Bakugou," Kurmara asserted, her voice resolute yet tinged with a hint of vulnerability.

The trio continued their search, their footsteps now accompanied by a shared understanding and support for Kurmara's emotional journey. The trio stood in the middle hallway, their brows furrowed in perplexity. Their search had turned up no signs of anyone, adding to the growing sense of unease that hung in the air. "I wonder if one of the others found them," Mina voiced, her voice tinged with concern, as they began to make their way back. Sero, lost in thought, spoke up, causing the women to turn their attention to him. "It's strange though, isn't it?" he mused, his voice laced with curiosity. "What do you mean?" one of them asked, curiosity evident in her eyes. "I mean, think about it," Sero continued, shrugging. "The alarms go off, the security is gone. Doesn't that seem a little strange? Not to mention, we couldn't find anyone or anything." The women exchanged glances, realizing the validity in Sero's observations.

"He has a point," Mina acknowledged, her voice reflecting a mix of curiosity and concern. Kurmara nodded, her expression determined. "Well, let's just hope someone found something," she added as they continued their walk back to the cafeteria. As they entered the cafeteria, they immediately noticed the absence of many of their friends. Only Denki, Jirou, Bakugou, and Uraraka were present. "Hey, where is everyone else?" Mina inquired, her voice carrying a tinge of worry as they approached their friends. "They still haven't come back yet," Kaminari replied with a sigh, his frustration evident. "Yeah, and we didn't find anything while we were gone," Uraraka added, disappointment coloring her tone. Sero chimed in, his voice filled with concern. "That's so weird. Why would the alarm just suddenly go off?" Kurmara's gaze shifted towards Bakugou, who turned his attention behind him and called out, "Did you find anything?"

All eyes turned to see Kirishima, Tsuyu, and Iida walking back, their defeated expressions telling the story of their unsuccessful search. Kirishima's voice carried a sense of disappointment as he responded, "No, we looked around but couldn't find anything." A heavy silence settled upon the group as they absorbed the news. The mystery deepened, leaving them with more questions than answers. Uncertainty loomed over them, and the urgency to uncover the truth grew stronger. As everyone rushed towards the sudden sound, they found their friends Deku and Tokoyami injured, clearly having put up a fight against two unknown villains. Worried glances were exchanged as they assessed the situation. "What happened here?" Bakugou demanded, his voice firm with concern. But before anyone could respond, one of the villains gracefully approached Kurmara, separating her from the group, much to her distress.

She struggled against the villain's hold, her heart racing with fear and adrenaline. The villain's eyes scanned over Kurmara, taking in her appearance with a disturbing smile.

"So you're the one we've been looking for," they said with sickening sweetness, emphasizing the word "you're" in a way that sent shivers down Kurmara's spine. Just as the situation seemed dire, Tsuyu, always resourceful, used her tongue to distract the villain, creating a moment of opportunity. In that instant, Sero sprang into action, his tape whirling through the air as he skillfully wrapped it around the villain, pulling them away from Kurmara with a powerful toss. The villain stumbled backward, momentarily disoriented by Sero's quick maneuver. Bakugou rushed to Kurmara, making sure she was alright. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice filled with genuine concern. Kurmara nodded, taking a deep breath, "I'm okay, Katsuki," she reassured him, offering a small smile amidst the chaos. But the danger was far from over. The other villain took advantage of the chaos, launching a surprise attack on the small group.

Bakugou's instincts kicked in, and he quickly positioned himself between the villain and Kurmara, determined to prevent them from getting close to her. "You won't lay a finger on her," Bakugou growled, his fists clenched and eyes blazing with determination. The villain sneered, "We'll see about that." They lunged at Bakugou with a swift, calculated strike. But Bakugou was relentless, unleashing his explosive quirk to fend off the attacker. The clash of quirks echoed through the hallway as the two engaged in a fierce battle. Meanwhile, Kurmara watched with bated breath, grateful for Bakugou's protective instinct. She knew she could trust him to keep her safe, but that didn't stop her heart from racing with worry. The intense fight continued, and the rest of their friends rallied to support Bakugou, each using their quirks to gain the upper hand against the villainous intruders. Despite the danger, their determination to protect one another only grew stronger.

The bond between these heroes shone brightly amidst the chaos, and they stood united in the face of adversity. As everyone engaged in the intense battle, Kurmara focused on aiding those who were injured and unable to fight back. Using her strength quirk, she swiftly carried her friends to safety, ensuring they were away from harm's way. But just as she was about to join the fight, a sudden and massive explosion knocked everyone back, including Kurmara. As the dust settled, Kurmara looked around in alarm, seeing her friends scattered and disoriented from the blast. She tried to make her way to her boyfriend, Bakugou, when she heard a voice behind her, calling for help. Turning around, she saw a figure on the ground, seemingly injured and in pain. Instinctively, Kurmara rushed over to assist, unaware that it was a trap set by the villains.

Bakugou, Kirishima, Mina, Midoriya, and Sero were among the first to recover, and they spotted Kurmara heading towards the seemingly injured person. Bakugou's sharp intuition kicked in, sensing something was off about the situation. "Get away from him!" Bakugou's desperate voice echoed through the air, but Kurmara's attention was still focused on helping the person before her. She couldn't hear Bakugou's warning, and her sense of duty to help those in need clouded her judgment. Suddenly, a shadow loomed over Kurmara, and she turned around to find one of the villains standing behind her. Before she could react, the villain swiftly placed their hand on her head, sending a jolt of energy that made Kurmara collapse, unconscious. In an instant, the villain who had faked being hurt sprang into action, catching Kurmara's limp form in their arms. A smug expression adorned their face as they surveyed the group of heroes, taunting them with Kurmara's vulnerability.

"I regret to inform you that our time for pleasantries has come to an abrupt end. We have pressing matters to attend to," the villain declared, their voice dripping with malicious intent. With a final taunting glance, they turned their back on the stunned heroes, holding Kurmara close as they vanished into the shadows, leaving behind a shaken and determined group of heroes. As Bakugou, Kirishima, and the rest of the team recovered from the shock, anger surged within them. They knew they had to regroup and strategize to rescue their friend and put an end to the villains' wicked plans. With determination burning in their hearts, they vowed to find Kurmara and bring her back safely, no matter the cost.
