Chapter 45 - Chapter XXXIX

Eun

I stirred from my slumber as the first rays of dawn gently filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow across the room. Blinking away the remnants of sleep, I became aware of the warmth beside me. "Hey, sleepyhead," her melodic voice chimed, accompanied by a gentle nudge. "Time to rise and shine." I let out a fake groan, rolling over to face my wife, Yuna, whose radiant smile greeted me. "Can't I stay in bed a little longer?" I teased, reaching out to pull her closer. She chuckled, her laughter as sweet as music to my ears. "Nice try, but nope. You promised to help me with breakfast, remember?" With a playful pout, I relented, pulling her into my arms and pressing a tender kiss to her shoulder. "Alright, alright. But only because you asked so nicely." Her laughter bubbled again, a symphony of joy filling the room. "You're lucky I love you," she teased, before gently extricating herself from my embrace and slipping out of bed. Watching her move gracefully about the room, my heart swelled with love and gratitude.

I couldn't help but marvel at the sight of her, the gentle curve of her stomach a testament to the new life we were eagerly awaiting. "What are you smiling about?" she asked, her voice soft with curiosity as she caught me gazing at her. I shook my head, a fond smile playing on my lips. "Just thinking about how lucky I am to have you," I replied, my voice filled with sincerity. Her cheeks flushed with a blush as she returned my smile, a silent exchange of love and affection passing between us. In that moment, as we stood on the threshold of a new day, I felt a sense of peace and contentment wash over me, banishing the worries and fears that had lingered in the corners of my mind. After breakfast, I asked Yuna if she was sure she didn't mind me not coming with her for her appointment. "Are you sure you don't mind if I'm not there to see how our baby is doing?" I inquired, a hint of uncertainty in my voice. She walked over to me, her eyes soft with affection, and planted a kiss on my cheek.

"I'll be fine. I have my sister meeting me there and she has the day planned out for us together." She assured me but I couldn't help but pout at the thought of missing out on the appointment, but Yuna's laughter eased the disappointment. "Don't worry, love. You can come with me for the next one," she said, brushing a stray strand of hair from my face. "Besides, you're heading to your sister's agency, right? To see how she is?" I nodded, a sense of pride swelling within me at the mention of my sister. "Yeah, I just wanted to check on her. But are you sure?" I asked again, hoping for a different answer. Yuna chuckled, "Yes, Eun, I'm sure. Go to the agency, see Kurmara, and tell me about her hero work," she replied, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. "I want to know how she's doing too. Plus, I bet her day has its mix of paperwork and patrols." I couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm, grateful for her understanding and support. With a final kiss, I bid Yuna farewell and left the house as I set off to the agency, my heart filled with a mixture of excitement and apprehension.

Once I was out of our neighborhood and in the bustling city, a gentle breeze carried the scent of cherry blossoms in the air. The city was painted in hues of pink and white as delicate petals danced on the wind. I left Yuna with the car, knowing that her comfort was paramount, especially in her condition. As I walked through the city, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was a little off, a nagging sense of unease gnawing at the edges of my consciousness. But I just brushed it aside, chalking it up to lingering guilt for not accompanying my wife to her appointment. The city buzzed with life around me, the sidewalks teeming with people going about their daily routines. Shops adorned with colourful displays drew the attention of passersby, while the distant sound of laughter echoed through the streets. The sun cast a warm glow over the city, casting long shadows that danced along the pavement. Despite the beauty of my surroundings, a sense of restlessness tugged at my thoughts.

I quickened my pace, eager to reach Kurmara's agency and put my mind at ease. I finally made it to the towering building that housed my sister as well as her friends who worked alongside her. With determined strides, I walked into the lobby and approached the front desk where a receptionist greeted me with a polite smile. "Good morning, sir. How can I assist you today?" She asked, her fingers poised over the keyboard of her computer. "I'm here to see my sister, Kurmara Hayashi," I replied, my voice tinged with urgency. The woman typed on her computer before furrowing her brows. "I'm sorry sir, but I don't see anyone under that name," she said, her tone apologetic. Confusion gnawed at my insides. "What do you mean? Try it again." I suggested, irritation starting to bubble to the surface.

The receptionist tried again but still came up with the same result. She then suggested that I perhaps try using her hero name instead. I nodded and provided Kurmara's hero name, "Dajung Nōryoku, the Multi-Quirk hero." But even after she typed that in, she still came up with nothing. "What the hell? How could she not be showing up when she's been working here for three years?" I queried with an irritated huff. She offered another suggestion, asking if there was anyone else I could try who might work with her. I racked my brain for a moment before saying "Izuku Midoriya. His hero name is Deku." After typing that in, the receptionist's eyes lit up and she nodded, "Ah, yes, he's here. Let me print you a visitor's badge and tell you which floor to go to." I thanked her and accepted the badge before heading to one of the elevators.

As I rode up, my thoughts bounced around with different questions, but one of them remained constant – where is Kurmara?

Once I reached the main office floor, I walked in and looked around the bustling office, observing different people going about their tasks. Among them, I spotted a few teenagers, presumably here for internships. "Can I help you?" A familiar voice asked from my right and I turned to see Iida walking up to me and once he saw my face, a smile crossed his. "Eun, to what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?" He asked politely. When he noticed that I didn't return the smile and had a serious expression on my face, his smile faltered. "I'm looking for Kurmara. Your receptionist down there told me that there wasn't anyone under that name here. I even tried her hero name," I explained, my voice tinged with frustration. He looked around before ushering me into the meeting room and closing the doors behind us. "Where is my sister?" I asked him. "Was that just something wrong on the receptionist's end or is she not here?" I queried, my tone urgent. Iida's brow furrowed in concern as he listened to my question.

"Would you mind telling me what happened once you got here?" he asked, his voice edged with worry. As I recounted the encounter with the receptionist, I couldn't help but notice a subtle shift in Iida's expression. His initial worry seemed to give way to something else, something harder to read. But he remained silent, his gaze fixed on me with a mix of concern and something I couldn't quite place. After I finished, there was a brief pause, during which Iida didn't say anything, just looked at me with that inscrutable expression. Finally, he broke the silence. "Perhaps she hasn't arrived yet today. I haven't seen her recently. Or maybe she's at home," he suggested. I stared at him for a moment, a nagging feeling stirring in the back of my mind. Something was off but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Nevertheless, I nodded, considering his words. "You might be right," I admitted, considering his words. "I'll head over to her house," I declared, my voice resolute despite the uncertainty gnawing at my insides.

Iida nodded in agreement. "I hope she didn't come down with anything. I'll make sure to talk to the receptionist after you leave, see if there's been a misunderstanding." He voiced. With a nod of thanks, I bid Iida farewell and headed out of the agency, my mind racing with worry for my sister. As I stepped out into the springtime air once again, a sense of unease settled over me like a heavy shroud. Something wasn't right and I couldn't shake the feeling that Iida knew more than he was letting on. But for now, my priority was finding Kurmara and ensuring her safety. With a determined stride, I set off towards her house, my heart heavy with worry. As I made my way to Kurmara's neighbourhood, my thoughts raced with worry. I wondered if her roommate, Kamie, was home as well. The familiar streets felt unfamiliar under the weight of my concern, but I pressed on, determination driving me forward. Arriving at Kurmara's house, I walked up to the front door and knocked, hoping for a swift answer.

When no one responded, I knocked again, my anxiety mounting with each passing moment. With a frown, I pulled out my phone, intending to message Kurmara once more. But as I scrolled through my contacts, I noticed that she hadn't responded to any of my previous messages. A sinking feeling settled in the pit of my stomach, fueling my sense of urgency. Just as I was about to knock again, the door swung open, revealing Kamie. She looked as if she had just woken up, her hair tousled and her eyes still heavy with sleep. But when she saw me standing at the door, her eyes widened in surprise, and she gave me a small smile. "Eun, what's up?" she asked, her voice laced with curiosity as she stepped aside to let me inside. I wasted no time to explain the situation, my words tumbling out in a rush as I voiced my concerns for Kurmara's well-being and whereabouts. Kamie listened intently, processing the information. She yawned before she shook her head.

"I haven't seen her since a few days ago in the afternoon before I went to work," she admitted, her voice tinged with worry. "But maybe she left a note or something." Something was deeply wrong with Kurmara's sudden disappearance. Kamie and I searched through the dining room and kitchen, but there wasn't anything that could've left behind to give us a clue about Kurmara's whereabouts. With a sinking feeling, Kamie led me to Kurmara's room. As we entered, I noticed traces of makeup scattered on the bed, desk, and dresser. It was clear that she had gotten ready to go out one night, but hadn't returned since. "That's right! She had a reunion at U.A. and had a few of her friends over to get ready," Kamie explained, her voice laced with realization. I looked at her, my heart pounding in my chest. "When was this?" I asked, my voice betraying my growing anxiety. Suddenly, Kamie started to stutter, her eyes darting away from mine. "U-uh..." "Kamie, when did she have the reunion?" I pressed, my tone firm.

"Th-three days ago?" she responded, her voice trembling. Anger flashed across my face. "Three days ago? And she never came home the next day or later that night?" I demanded, my voice rising with frustration. "N-no.. I don't know, I-I didn't get home until last night..." Kamie admitted, her voice wavering. Without another word, I turned on my heel and stormed past her, out the front door, slamming it behind me. Anger surged through me like a tidal wave. Iida was hiding something and Kamie hadn't seen Kurmara for three days, meaning she had been missing for all that time. "Fucking ridiculous.." I muttered to myself as I stormed down the street, my thoughts consumed by worry and frustration. It was later into the afternoon now, and I found myself back home, simmering with anger and frustration. Lost in my thoughts, I was unaware of the car parked in the driveway as I walked through the front door. As I entered, Yuna greeted me with a hug and a kiss, her warmth momentarily soothing the storm raging within me.

She had mentioned that she had some pictures of our baby and a few things she had picked up while she was out with her sister. I let out a small sigh in response, my mind still consumed by worry and anger as I walked towards our room. Yuna, noticing a shift in my demeanor, followed me. She watched silently as I sat on the edge of the bed, rubbing my face with frustration evident in every movement. I could feel her gaze on me, her concern palpable in the air. "Eun, are you alright?" Yuna's gentle voice broke the silence, concern evident in her tone. I didn't respond immediately, the weight of everything that had happened weighing heavily on my shoulders. Sensing my distress, she walked over and sat next to me, rubbing my back in a comforting gesture. We sat there in silence for a few moments, the only sound being the soft hum of the room. Finally, I let out a shaky sigh, tears threatening to spill from my eyes. I looked up at Yuna and her face was filled with genuine concern. "Eun, what's the matter?" she asked softly.

Unable to hold back any longer, I buried my face in her shoulder, silent sobs wracking my body as I lung to her. Yuna wrapped her arms around me, holding me close as I allowed myself to finally let go and release the pent-up emotions that had been building inside me. She rubbed my head soothingly, offering me the comfort and support that I so desperately needed in that moment. Finally, with a sniffle, I sat up straight again, Yuna wiping the remaining tears from my face with a gentle touch. "Now, are you ready to tell me what's wrong?" she asked gently, her eyes filled with concern. I nodded, taking a deep, shaky breath before recounting events of the day. I told her how I had gone to the agency to see Kurmara, only to find that she wasn't there. I explained how I had tried messaging her, but my messages had gone unanswered. And then I told her about my visit to her house, hoping to find her there, but only finding her roommate. Yuna looked confused as she asked where Kurmara could have gone.

I shook my head, feeling the weight of uncertainty pressing down on me. "I'm not sure," I admitted, my voice heavy with worry. "Kamie didn't say anything other than that Kurmara had gone to a high school reunion three days ago." "Three days ago?" Yuna echoed, raising a brow in disbelief. "What, so Kurmara's just been gone for three days and no one has any idea where she's gone?" she questioned, her voice tinged with frustration. "Well, Iida seemed like he was hiding something when I asked this morning.." I confessed, recalling the suspicious look on Iida's face. Yuna scoffed. "Well, they better tell you since you're her immediate family member. Her damn brother. They need to tell you something if they know anything," she voiced firmly. I couldn't stop the chuckle that escaped at her determination, which elicited a smile from her. "I'm serious. Either you call them and demand they tell you, or I will," Yuna insisted, her tone resolute. I nodded in agreement. "And if they don't answer?" I asked.

"Then they'll feel the wrath of an angry pregnant woman," Yuna replied with a mischievous glint in her eyes, her words laced with both humor and determination. I couldn't help but laugh, the tension of the moment momentarily lifted by her playful spirit. I couldn't help but be drawn by her strength and determination. Leaning in closer, unable resist the urge to flirt a little, my voice dropped to a softer tone. "I have to admit, I love when you get all tough like that," I whispered, a playful smile dancing on my lips. Her cheeks flushed with a hint of embarrassment, but she couldn't hide the giggle that escaped her lips. "What are you doing?" she asked, her voice a mixture of amusement and anticipation. In response, I pressed soft kisses against her neck and shoulder, relishing in the way her breath hitched at my touch. Feeling her warmth against me, I couldn't resist the urge to deepen the kiss, my lips lingering against hers with a newfound intensity.

Soon, we were both lost in the moment, the worries of the day fading into the background as we kissed passionately. I laid her down gently, hovering above her, our bodies softly pressed together. "Does this mean you're okay?" she asked between kisses, her voice still holding a hint of concern. I silenced her with a gentle shush, a smirk playing on my lips. "No talking, just kiss me," I murmured, my voice husky with desire. Yuna's smile widened, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "No need to tell me twice," she replied, her words barely a whisper before she kissed me again, a small moan escaping her lips as our passion ignited once more.

Later on, around one twenty in the morning, I heard my phone vibrating on the nightstand. Initially, I ignored it, relishing in the warmth of my wife's embrace as we slept peacefully. However, the persistent buzzing eventually stirred me from my slumber, and with a gentle sigh, I rolled over carefully so not to disturb Yuna, and picked up my phone. Through bleary eyes, I checked the screen to find five missed calls, all from numbers I recognized. I frowned, wondering why they were calling at such a late hour until my phone vibrated once more with another incoming call, this time from Midoriya. Glancing back at Yuna, still sound asleep beside me, I quietly slipped out of bed, slipping my boxers on before making my way to the living room to answer the call. "Hello?" I greeted, my voice tinged with weariness. "Hey Eun," came Midoriya's voice on the other end. "Why are you calling me this late? Shouldn't you be sleeping around this time?" I asked, trying to stifle a yawn.

"I know, but I saw you talking to Iida earlier today and was wondering if you'd like to come by the agency," he replied. My heart quickened with anticipation, but I cleared my throat before responding, "Why? Is there something you want to tell me?" There was a brief pause before he spoke again. "Yes. Please, come over to the agency. I'll have Sero waiting for you in the lobby," he said before abruptly ending the call. I sighed, feeling a mix of curiosity and apprehension swirling within me. After a moment of contemplation, I quietly made my way back to the bedroom, and dressed myself without making much noise, ensuring not to disturb Yuna's peaceful slumber. Once ready, I silently left the room, slipped on my shoes, grabbed my keys and stepped out the front door into the cool night air. As I drove through the city, the streetlights cast long shadows above my car, illuminating the empty streets with an eerie glow. Despite the late hour, the city seemed to pulse with a quiet energy, a stark contrast to the stillness of the night.

Eventually, I arrived at the towering building that housed my sister's agency. Parking on the side of the street in front of another car, I stepped out and made my way toward the darkened entrance. It felt strange to be there at night, the building looming ominously overhead, but I needed to know why my sister's friends were blowing up my phone at such a late hour. Entering the lobby, I looked around the dimly lit space, the silence weighing heavily on my senses. Suddenly, a voice broke through the quiet. "Hey Eun, you made it," came Sero's familiar voice, his smile lighting up his face. "Hey, yeah, Midoriya said that he wanted me to come over here," I replied, feeling a mixture of curiosity and apprehension. "Yeah, follow me, everyone's waiting," Sero said, gesturing for me to follow him as he led the way to one of the elevators. I fell into step behind him, my mind racing with questions and uncertainty. What could Midoriya and the others possibly want from me at this hour?

I couldn't shake the feeling that something serious was about to unfold, and I braced myself for whatever awaited me on the floors above. Reaching the designated floor, Sero led me through the hallway until we reached a different meeting room. As we stepped inside, I saw that everyone was already gathered, their presence both concerning and intriguing. "Seems like a full house," I remarked, scanning the room before my gaze landed on Iida, who quickly averted his eyes. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his avoidance. "So, is anyone going to start talking?" I asked, the tension in the room palpable as I searched for any sign of my sister, but she was nowhere to be seen. "Well, a few days ago, we had a reunion at U.A. and, well..." Mina began, her voice trailing off into an uneasy silence as everyone exchanged uncertain glances. "Well? What the hell happened?" I demanded, my frustration mounting as I noticed the guilt hanging heavily in the air, evident in everyone's avoidance of eye contact.

"That's why we called you.." Uraraka finally spoke up, her voice filled with regret as she met my gaze. I furrowed my brow, my heart pounding in my chest as a sinking feeling settled in the pit of my stomach. Whatever they were about to tell me, I knew it couldn't be good. Letting out a frustrated sigh, I motioned for them to continue, my patience wearing thin with the lingering silence that seemed to suffocate the room. "She, uh, was taken," Denki finally voiced, his nervousness evident as he rubbed the back of his neck. "What do you mean she was taken?" I queried, my voice tinged with disbelief. "Where the hell is my sister?" "Villains took her," Todoroki said bluntly, his words landing like a heavy blow. I scoffed, unable to comprehend what I was hearing. "Yeah, right. Like I would believe that Kurmara, my baby sister and one of the strongest heroes within your group, got kidnapped by some shitty, weak-ass villains? And not one of you was able to get to her?" I questioned, my frustration bubbling to the surface.

But the room fell silent yet again, their solemn expressions only fueling my anger. She was taken, and everyone just stood there, offering no solutions, no reassurances. Fueled by frustration and desperation, I slammed my hands down on the table, the sudden noise causing a few of them to jump and flinch. "That's bullshit," I exclaimed, my voice laced with anger and disbelief. "Eun—" "No! You actually expect me to believe that shit? That's fucking bullshit. You all were there and couldn't do anything to stop it? Anything to try and attempt to get her?" I shouted, my frustration reaching its peak. "We did try, dammit! Those damn idiots had a few people with a stupid teleportation Quirk and a sleeping gas Quirk! We couldn't do jack shit!" Bakugou interjected, his own frustration evident in his tone. "Sure, keep feeding me excuses, Katsuki. Hanta, you could've easily fucking grabbed her," I turned to my sister's childhood friend, but he shook his head.

"Sorry Eun, I couldn't if they had the teleporting Quirk. He got to her before I could try to..." Sero said apologetically, his gaze downcast. My heart pounded in my ears as I looked around at them all, their expressions filled with guilt and helplessness. Finally, I sank into one of the chairs, the weight of the situation crashing down on me. "So... that's it? She's just... gone?" I asked, my voice cracking slightly as I struggled to comprehend the reality of my sister's disappearance. "No, it's not. We are going to get her back," Midoriya reassured me, his voice filled with determination. I looked up at him, feeling a glimmer of hope stir within me at his words. "Remember, we're heroes. We will get Kurmara back to you and the rest of us. She is a hero too, after all," he added, his tone unwavering in its conviction. I let out a small sigh, the weight of his words sinking in. Despite the despair and frustration that threatened to consume me, I couldn't deny the truth in Midoriya's words.

They were heroes, and it was their duty to protect and rescue those in need. Nodding slowly, I found a sliver of resolve within me. "Yeah... you're right," I murmured, feeling a renewed sense of determination coursing through my veins. They would find Kurmara. No matter the challenges ahead, no matter the risks they faced, they would bring her back home where she belonged.
