Chapter 3 - Pain and Jealousy

In the silence, only the sound of the wind could be heard very clearly. Haru pondered in a dim mood and started to get annoyed with himself.

Clenching his fists tightly, Haru seemingly wanted to punch himself for his cowardice. He thought before that he wanted to ask Shino about Daiki, but he did not. He considered himself to be a coward and thought that his bad thoughts toward Shino were just an assumption. Now, he was tormenting himself with regret.

"Where is he? Is he all right?" Haru asked himself in a whispering tone. Even though he had never talked directly to Daiki, he still worried him.

Many thoughts popped up like waves in his head, making him sway. Not wanting to get lost in his own confusion, Haru ruffled his hair in frustration.

Not long after, Haru turned around and left in chaos mood. However, as far as he went, thoughts of the same person kept coming up.

Getting off the train, Haru realized that he had missed several incoming calls from his mother, so he hurriedly called her back.

"Mom, sorry. I fell asleep so I didn't hear my phone ringing," Haru explained. "What's going on?" he asked as he continued to walk.

His mother sighed softly, seeming to understand. "I just wanted to remind you. Don't forget to pick up the cake I ordered at my regular cake shop, okay? I already paid for it, you just have to pick it up," his mother answered on the phone.

"Oh, alright, mom. I get you. I'll tell you—" He paused all of a sudden, unable to continue his words because what he saw right now was most surprising!

"Daiki!" Haru shouted reflexively in a choking voice.

His mother instinctively asked, "Haru, is there something wrong? Haru, are you still there?"

Getting no response, his mother asked once again, "Haru, I'm talking to you, you know. Do you hear me?"

Haru was still silent because he was so surprised at what he saw in person.

Haru's mother felt ignored by her son, so she got furious. She thought that Haru was deliberately worrying her, so she shouted into the phone in annoyance, "Haru, don't ignore me. I'm talking to you!"

Loud voice. Haru finally realized that he was still talking to his mother right now. "Oh, sorry mom. I'll take your order soon, but I catch up with my friend first," Haru said with his eyes still looking in the same direction.

"Don't forget that, okay?" Haru's mother still sounded annoyed, but her voice was starting to sound soft when she said, "Come home sooner, okay?"

"Yeah, mom. I got you," Haru replied, trying to calm his mother down. "I'll go to the shop after I talk to my friend," he continued as he immediately hung up.

Haru frowned. After how long he looked at the person he saw from a distance, he was absolutely sure that it was Daiki. He also quickened his pace to convince himself again that it was really him ... and yes, it was Daiki!

Haru saw Daiki sitting on a park bench while playing on his phone seriously.

At first, he felt doubt to approach Daiki. Apart from being embarrassed, he also did not know how to start a conversation with him. Despite those doubts, there was such a strong and irresistible sense of talking to the person he loved, that without him being able to stop himself, he quickly took a step with certainty.

Taking a deep breath to catch his breath, he never expected that he would talk to Daiki today!

'This is my chance to talk to him.'

However, surprisingly, what Haru thought of as a moment that would be full of excitement was instantly devastated by someone's presence!

"Hah!" Haru's breath gasped all of a sudden. At the same time, his feet stopped walking.

Someone came over to Daiki. Judging by how they interacted with each other, it seemed that the two of them had known each other for a long time. By how close the two of them were, especially how that person was able to break down Daiki's ice wall.

Everyone in their school knew Daiki was an awkward person. He was not good at expressing his feelings easily to others, but what Haru found now was like a dream that he always dreamed of but tragic in the end.

This was actually shocking him so much that he was silenced by the scene. Seeing the two of them laughing at trivial matters, Haru felt that their closeness was unusual.

Haru could not help but assume something bad. Because he loved Daiki that awful, he had a growing pain. That was such an unusual sight, making him surprised that he could not process every single word that was running through his head.

How come? It was Haru's first time seeing Daiki look so cheerful; burst out laughing with that person as if they were drowning in pleasure. At first glance, Haru felt that it was a different person he had just seen but also made him fall in love twice as much but in the end, it was more pain he got.
