Collins's thoughts were firing up now and anger swells within. He knew he has to go with Dad to see Alex only if he agrees and perhaps confront Duke, his suspect.
He allowed his thoughts to cease momentarily and minutes later, his thoughts resumed but his eyes were kept on Bruno and Annora who were now having their conversation by the closed door leading to the room where Sandra was still lying unconscious.
"Alex where are you?—come out here. What did you or your son do to my daughter, Sandra?" Bruno started hitting the door with both hands.
He knew Alex was at home for his white limousine was parked outside.
But why was he not answering?
Bruno thought but never stopped hitting the door until the door was flung wide open.
"What is it, Mr. Bruno? Why this outrage this evening?" Alex stood by the door staring into the furious eyes of Bruno.
This was the first time since Alex packed into his new home in Lisbon he has seen Bruno this mad.
"Come right in let's talk this out. You don't have to fill the air with your loud voice—calm down. What did Duke do?"
Bruno wasn't ready to ease up instead his muscular right hand stretched at Alex who stood in shock. "Your son fed Sandra with what I don't know. She is in the hospital lying down unconscious and you tell me you don't know—why not tell me you are only just pretending?"
Alex still can get it but knew Duke has involved himself with the wrong set of a family he shouldn't have messed up with. "You mean Duke was responsible for Sandra being hospitalized?"
Bruno ignored and walked away before Alex could either repeat his question or rephrase it.
"You don't have to walk away Bruno—" His words were cut in-between when the voice of Pamela came from behind.
"I heard him—I heard all he said. But who the hell does he thinks he is?"
Alex spun around and stared at Pamela who stood with her walking stick and looking ahead of him. "He can't frighten us. We should get him frightened."
Alex knew if he doesn't stop her now, she may want to get involved in what she knows nothing about.
"What you see or hear is none of your business. Bruno is one of our nice neighbors in Lisbon—he stays in house 9 down the street. And he came because Duke did something horrible I guess. But he wasn't so calm to let me into what Duke did. And now, he is mad at me because he thinks I know about it and I am covering up for Duke. And now he is mad at me—I mean everybody."
"And that includes me—or am I not part of your family, Alex Rexon?"
Alex looked away and refused to react not until Pamela's voice came again.
"I demand an answer and not this stupid quiet attitude you are trying to put up before your mother." She hissed. "That man I don't know came right here and started hitting the god damn door and woke me up from my sweet sleep and you tell me I shouldn't do anything? Perhaps you don't want to act because you have locked up the powers in you—"
"Mother, please stop—don't even start or go there. Come on, Duke I guess did wrong and Sandra is in the hospital—"
"Who the hell is Sandra? I don't care about that girl." Pamela cut in and didn't let Alex finish. "I don't like that girl. She is always around Duke for nothing but pleasure. She loves wealth her parents can't give her—she is a gold digger and she disgusts me."
Alex was beginning to get upset but struggled hard not to show it. "Mother you are taking the whole thing too far—Bruno is Sandra's father and he has every right to be offended and behave the way he just did a while ago—I think any parent should—"
"Not every parent, son. Not everybody has a conscience and Duke doesn't and I thought you know that? I am sure you do. Something tells me Duke kind of like that girl—"
Alex interrupted Pamela again, "Don't dare say that mother. Duke shouldn't date a girl for less his age. He must face his studies and nothing less or more." Alex wore a frown. It was obvious he didn't quite like the conversation. Still, in deep thoughts, he stared into the eyes of Pamela for the third time since they stood outside staring at each other and at other times, at the colorful garden ahead of them.
"Does Duke Power involve having an affair?" Alex demanded.
Pamela ignored. "That man who came here got two offenses. One for coming in here banging the door to wake me from my sweet sleep and two, for accusing Duke of what he is incapable of—"
"Have you ask Duke, Mother—and don't say that I know what Duke is capable of doing and I am dead sure he can do what Bruno says." Alex looked away refusing eye contact with Pamela.
"Oh I see you take side with that fool—well I think he will just be my first experiment in Lisbon and I am ready to do this with my full strength—"
"What? Don't do that and you know—"
Pamela disappeared into the house before all of Alex's words could reach her ears.
Alex looked troubled for a while. He knew what his mother was capable of but what he knew she shouldn't do now was to harm an innocent man.
Staring ahead of her she thought she heard a sound. She stood still for a while struggling to figure out where she thought she heard the sound and when it didn't come again she resumed her mystical rituals. "I yet again invoke the power of our ancestors into your spirit. Darkness will be scared to see you and your taste and hunger for blood will be unending and all the inhabitants of Lisbon will feel your fury, your rage..." Pamela's tiny hands full of veins were placed on the broad chest of Duke who stood still looking into space.
Pamela continued with her loud cracked but piercing voice that got magical powers in it. "Deep calls out to the deep but deeper will you go for your hunger for more—I empower you this day for destruction and nothing more but destruction—"
She stopped yet again when she thought she heard another sound but was still not convinced. She stood still for a while.
Donna who had stood by the door covered by the thick curtain could barely believe what she had been hearing and when her eyes caught the cold eyes of Duke. What she saw took her breath away, she flinched.
She returned home to collect what she forgot about her trip and now she is seeing the mysterious.
What has been hidden from her is now been revealed by Pamela, she knew was evil and capable of almost anything.
Duke's eyes redden and the fury in it burns beyond her comprehension.
Why was Pamela doing this?
Is she a witch and Duke a wizard?
But Alex never said anything even when she suspected.
Could it be he was hiding something from me?
Who is Alex Rexon?
Donna now begins to think she knows little about Alex. And now the little seems like nothing.
She had never loved Pamela because she was always suspicious and wicked. She never supported her relationship with Alex after Zolin's death because of something she was trying to protect.
Could it be this?
Or something she can't figure out, that was hidden and magical?
Donna's thoughts got busier but her eyes never dropped from Pamela or Duke as she peeped from behind the curtain.
At one point she became irritated and at another. She became more frightened.
The more she looked at Pamela and Duke, the more she sees the evil that had engulfed them for minutes snaking up like smokes through the windows to the rooftop—a phenomenon she can't even comprehend but can only be described as unbelievable.
Her eyes bulged, her lips dried and the taste for water grew within her. But she knew that won't be necessary for she wanted to know, to see—
Moments later, being choked by the powers smoking out, Donna sneezed. And that instantly caught the attention of Pamela who spun around and stepped back from Duke who still stood unconscious. For the ritual was yet to be completed. Pamela walked slowly to the open door where she thought she heard the sound. She pulled the curtain aside but saw nothing.
She knew Donna can't be home and that sound?
What could that be?
