This time he was walking in the office aimlessly and talking to himself angrily. It was obvious he didn't quite like the killings in Lisbon especially that of his friend Edison. And the fact they aren't getting the killers hurt him.
He still remembered Edison's fiancée crying her eyes out during the burial and all that got him mad.
And now an informant is not ready to talk. His thoughts fired into flames.
"What a hell?" He whispered to himself with eyes now bloodshot.
Nathan shifted his eyes from his laptop and stared at James. "Cool down man. How can she say much? She called me and then dropped the phone. I tried calling her back but the line wasn't her personal. It was commercial and that makes it difficult to get her—she was another Good Samaritan all the same or you might say but trust me. I have been on this job for years and I know when an anonymous is telling the truth—this may lead us to many discoveries perhaps even the death of Edison might soon be unearthed so get prepared and stop all unwanted thoughts. We can make Lisbon a haven again and never a hideout for criminals and murderers."
James looked away. He knew Nathan is a brave policeman. He has been around for a while now and his intelligent ability to handle sensitive cases still made him even at his old age more relevant to the police force.
"Anything new from your research ever since you sat down there?" James asked scratching his forehead.
Nathan turned his head and smiled perhaps for the first time since James entered his office. "Nothing more than what we already know but if my hunch is right. That lady who called must have lived in Lisbon perhaps not anymore. I can't figure it out yet but I am sure the line will soon merge—is the Van ready? We must patron Lisbon tonight—"
"Yes boss, it is ready and I hope tonight will end our nightmare and our chase after shadows," James said and sighed. And now not ready to say anymore his eyes caught the doorknob and then fell on his wristwatch.
He knew exactly what to do and what to do was to be in the streets of Lisbon soon.
The words of Donna kept her standing for minutes and by the time she recovered. It was obvious the information came as a shocker.
She felt her heart pounding and also felt pains climbing from her feet to her forehead spreading headaches within so strongly she felt dazed. Helping herself to a chair, she sank in with her mind still working and her thoughts floating.
And as her thoughts soon tumble against each other in her mind, she flinched. She felt her hands trembling and when her eyes fell on the wall clock hung on the wall. She knew Bruno will soon be home.
A few minutes later, she felt her heartbeat returning to normal. But the fear that gripped her a few minutes ago refused to subside.
Now as she looked at the window directly opposite her. She felt unsafe for the first time they started living in Lisbon.
Annora who still looked scared allowed her nervousness engulfed her momentarily but as the sliding door opened behind her. She stood up in shock but calm down when she saw it was Bruno. "Darling my heart almost jumped into my mouth—my gosh, you scared me—"
"I did? But you did not lock the door. Remember Lisbon is not what it used to be. It is damn hot these days. And nobody knows who the next family on the target list is." Bruno Strolled in with his briefcase in his right hand and as he approached Annora who seems still frozen to a spot, his thoughts wander.
"What's the matter? Have you seen a ghost or something?" He pulled her close. "We will soon move out of Lisbon in the coming days. I still can't believe all these are happening in the once peaceful Lisbon. It was an estate once full of peace and calm but now, unforeseen evil."
"Donna called, she said there may be a possible attack on us tonight and that we should leave the house by 9 pm she wasn't specific. I mean not enough details. But I could tell from her voice, she was scared and that got me scared too."
Bruno withdrew from her embrace and sat down instead. "Donna called you? I thought she wasn't that friendly. And I still wonder how she got married to Alex Rexon perhaps for his wealth. But that's silly if you ask me—"
"I am not going to ask you, darling. That woman is a good friend but I see her as one who doesn't understand Alex so well and her stepson Duke. He is giving her a handful already. Duke hates and disrespects her. But I feel there is more to all these she knows little or nothing about—that's my thinking or suspicion if you like."Annora yawned and finally sat close to Bruno.
"Where are the kids?" Bruno asked looking around.
Annora grabbed his right hand. "They went over to Aunty Becky's place. She just arrived from Germany. I am sure a couple of minutes from now they will be back." Her eyes caught the wall clock.
Bruno looked away and then the words of Donna struck again.
"She said 9 pm tonight and said nothing more?"
Annora nodded with eyes carrying flashes of fear. "Nothing more, but then the unusual scare in her voice makes me want to believe her. So what do you think? Should we? Or just pretend her call never came?"
"No, we shouldn't. We must act and at the same time let the police into this. And even if we leave tonight, we still can't leave with our properties. The police protect lives and properties and that's why the police will have to see to all these. And that's also why Nathan should be alerted immediately and that will be security consciousness on our part." Bruno fixed his eyes on Annora for a while and then kicked out the silence that had suddenly crept in and hung above them.
"Alex Rexon is still a strange man. I think he got a lot locked up inside of him and I find it difficult to believe he got hooked to Donna who can't even hurt a fly—that is wrong marital compatibility I have ever seen—"
"Donna is a nice woman who wanted a man she could call her own and besides, she wasn't married before. But I am certain the marriage won't last for Alex is a silent scorpion and his son—indescribable." Annora said with her hands still wrapped around her breasts region. And now, the tormenting fear that came before Bruno's arrival has drifted away.
"Donna told us 9 pm and it is 4 pm already—we will act on her words and if what she said is true then that will further prove to us she is not part of that family, the family of Alex Rexon," Bruno added.
House number 9 was the target.
As he walked, he knew he must get there by 9 pm. With his short gun in his hand, he feared nothing but for the anxiety piling up within him he struggled to suppress.
The moonless night seems to cover everything including his gun and now his burning eyes got nothing inside but death.
The more he drew closer to house 9 the more his appetite grew to destroy.
The murmuring insects never distracted his loaded mind and the words of Pamela never stopped coming.
He felt the weight of her words in his bones. He heard it countless times in his ears, piercing through his eardrums to his brain. Hitting strongly on the fracture he once had on his head and screwing deep into his brain once dead but now back to life!
To hurt the ones he once loved, but not anymore.
He knew that ever since Pamela arrived love inside of him have disappeared and everything looked different now—different from the way it used to be.
Darkness filled his mind as his eyes glow even in the night.
Holding his gun more firmly, he knew exactly what to do. And what to do is to kill the family of Bruno Strullid and that was what he felt he was born to do and now determined to accomplish.
With his eyes piercing through the moonless night, he could spot house number 9 and that is the residence of Bruno—Bruno Strullid.
Dragging his feet unconsciously as though under the influence of alcohol. The words of Pamela hit him hard again.
This time he staggered but quickly stood his ground.
