Chapter 1: Call me Crazy
Her eyes fluttered open against her wish. She was having a good dream and in that dream, she was floating like she had no care in the world, which couldn't be further from her reality.
Ding-dong! Ding-dong! Ding-dong!
She stared at the cause of her annoyance like the table clock was an Alien technology sent to destroy her life.
8am.
Her eyes dimmed and then it flew wide open.
"Oh crap!" She stood up from the bed in a hurry almost tripping on her left foot.
She looked around the bedroom she found herself in and blinked. Great! It was taking her brain an awfully long time to piece together where she was. She needed a cup of coffee to wake her brain up.
She turned almost immediately when she heard someone behind her. She wasn't alone on the bed. She peeped closer and it was a dude… a really handsome half naked guy on the bed. He was dark skinned; sharp featured at least the part she was seeing was. He had that distinctive Jaw, she had only seen in her dreams and....on TV. Prince Charming's jaw line. His eyes were almond shaped and he had a scent with him when she inhaled.
She could move closer and smell him again but that would be considered creepy by anyone's standard. But she did, anyway.
Good God!
Then she remembered. He was only one of the most powerful bosses in Africa.
"You are staring at me again, McKenna" his deep voice whispered without opening what she knew to be honey brown eyes.
"Yes. Yes, I am. My life is officially a Telenovela series" McKenna sat on the bed and laid her head on his chest. It was a nice solid chest made to be used as an occasional head pillow.
"It's not so bad, Oma" He nibbled on her left ear slightly. Oma was an endearing name he loved calling her. Technically, it meant beautiful.
"Yeah. Yeah" McKenna murmured again. "It's not so bad. You just told me yesterday, after about six months of marriage that you went to Malawi to help rebuild an Orphanage that belonged to your grandmother but you ended up adopting a six year old African American child that is on the run with her mother from her biological psycho father. What's so bad about that?" McKenna spoke too fast.
Now, it was clearer why her brain took long enough to remember where she was. She was a stepmom! Yay!
She was twenty four years old and to be a mother to a six year old, she would have to give birth at eighteen.
"Baby, look at me" Jason urged her to turn and she did.
"You will love Kara. And I know you will make a good mother to her" he kissed her nose.
"A mother to a six year old....I was a virgin at eighteen! Your kid would take one look at me and conclude that I am Cinderella's stepmother"
"Breathe, McKenna! Breathe....I freaked out too when I realized I was going to adopt her. It took running inside a burning building to save her for me to realize that I love and adore that little girl. I am willing to die for her. She is a Yagazie just like you are, now. Family take care of family"
"Why the hell didn't you tell me you had a child before we got married?" McKenna yelled at him.
"You know why? Our marriage was a...." His voice trailed off as he started laughing.
"Mistake!" McKenna finished up for him. "I can't apologize enough for marrying you without your consent, Jason"
"Don't worry about it, sweetheart. What matters is I love you and you love me, too. And we are making this marriage work now, even though you tried to poison me twice and I tried to run you over with my car. Then, I found out that your biological father and my mother are like trying to kill each other too. But like I said, it's all good. We just have to figure out how to be a family, is all?"
He was Jason Ekoh-Yagazie and he was the only child of Elixir Yagazie, a billionaire turned politician and the most powerful woman in Africa. Now, he ran the family business and people were just beginning to find out that he was just as ruthless as his mother.
McKenna and Jason's love had always been complicated. For McKenna it was love at first sight but not so much for Jason, who never believed in love after he lost the first girl he had ever been in love with.... Tamara Jones.
To keep his empire from going to his estranged father, Jason decided to settle down with a woman that demanded no affection for him whatsoever, Amazing Donna. Knowing she could never have what she wanted McKenna decided to move on but only after she mistakenly signed the court marriage documents meant for Jason's intended wife and disappears for three months, leaving Jason to deal with the mess of being married to an absentee wife.
Jason found her eventually and at first, they wanted to pretend to like each other to avoid a scandal of a mistake marriage but after, four attempted assassinations they found out they were in love with each other after all.
Yesterday, he told her of the child he adopted in Malawi three years old and boom! She was a mother.
"Sweetie, what's the time?" Jason asked his wife.
"Don't yell. It's almost nine in the morning"
"McKenna!" Jason jerked up. They had missed their flight to Malawi.
"Does that mean we don't have to go?" McKenna asked with a hopefully countenance.
"God, no! We are taking the Jet. You will love her, I promise" Jason kissed her forehead and went into the shower.
McKenna walked into her closet and picked out an outfit for the dreaded occasion. When she came out, she joined her husband in the shower. She was lost in thought.
"A penny for your thoughts, Oma"
"Call me Crazy but your daughter has no idea what she had gotten herself into. This family is far from normal! We are clinically certified crazy!" McKenna applied shampoo to her hair and Jason helped her with the washing.
"Remind me again why you had to go to Malawi?" She asked her husband.
"It was about four years ago…..My mother Elixir Yagazie called me in panic near midnight. it was strange because my mother never panic"
