Chapter 12 - MEETING AT NIGHT

***Mid Night of the same day***

The wondrous starry curtains of shimmering aurora that encloses Alkal, makes the night come alive like a beautiful Painting. The moon hung high in the sky, giving the already magnificent Alkal a silvery radiance. Although the night was lively, the inhabitants of Alkal were no where to be seen. The trees by the road cast beautiful lonely shadows on the streets. Within these shadows, a figure whizzed past, it's movement flowing with the wind. On the wall of the 15th castle on Artima, a big shadow was slowly shrinking until it became a human sized one. The shadow then climbed a window and jumped in.

The room was dimly lit. The person who just jumped in walked closer to a figure on a bed. The bed was made of sea shells of different sizes. At the head of the bed, the shells were designed to look like the tail of a peacock spread widely. At the centre of the bed was an oval bronze mirror decorated with pearls. The person sat beside the figure curled on the bed in a fetal position. From afar, one would assume there was nothing but a bundle of blankets there. The figure was curled on the bed on a tight fetal position. The Intruder raised the blanket. Layer after layer of blanket was raised until a small body wearing silk pajamas was found. The Intruder tried the raise the figure's head and Ophelia came into view. She was still breathing stably as she sleep on not aware of any intruder. Wind blew in from the open window and Ophelia moved closer to the figure, she turned and turned until the firmly placed herself in the arms of the intruder, still curled up. The man smiled. He raised his head and the Dean light revealed his godly face. It was Nicklaus.

The man layed beside the little woman whom half of her body was curled on him and gently caressed her face. Nicklaus went into deep thoughts until he felt another presence in the room. Turning towards the direction from which the 'pestering glare' was coming from, his wife's guardian saw leaning against the door and glaring at him.

Seeing as she had finally managed to get his attention, Mona Serinna walked closer to the bed . She was pissed that the man was taking advantage of her ward but she decided to turn the blind eye and just glare a little at the leecher, who is also the girl's husband. Nicklaus sat up unhurriedly. 'what if she saw us? It was not like I'm cheating right? She's my wife'. He decided not to think about it.

"Mother-in-law" he greeted

"I hope that my son-in-law will sneak in through the right window next time and not 'mistakenly' enter the wrong room."

"I saw her window was opened, so I came in to take a look."

"Doesn't seem like that to me."

"It's not like I really own you an explanation now Mona Serinna. Do I?" He smirked

"The king is showing his authority now, isn't it?"

Nicklaus shrugged nonchalantly and replied, "I'm a king after all"

"It more serious than I thought. I'm afraid you'll need to leave with Ophelia within these few days."

"Leave it to me. I'll make it look very seamless. We should have left anyways. How about you? Will you be safe?"

"How worse can it be? This is my home."

"You still don't want to tell me what's going on."

"I wish I could but for now, they are just gut feelings. No proof."

"Don't tell me you didn't feel the eyes watching is earlier today"

"It has always been Galia's thing to spy on me. Nothing to be worried about."

"Worried? that's a wrong word. I've never been a worrywart, ma'am. I, Nicklaus, affront my enemies. Speaking of enemies, when do you all want to explain my assassination to me?" he raised an eyebrow grinning.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Oh you do Mona, and so does all of Alkal. But, I'll settle the scores slowly. My wife's own added." Said Nicklaus, his smirk wider. Now this is the Nicklaus that terrifies everyone. The one that smiles, smirks, grins while creating bloodbath after bloodbath. Rumour has it that his throne was made with the heads of a hundred thousand enemies or something of sorts and that he bathes himself in there blood before smelting their heads. He was the youngest werewolf king to have ascended the throne Nd the one with the most blood on his hands. Rumours were rumours. Serinna threw it to the back of her mind. She knew that the secret about the assassination would be laid open the moment she heard that he survived it. Since Nicklaus was a vengeful person, he would surely settle the scores with them. It had just been the wishful thinking of the elders to fulfill his marriage wish. They would still need to bear the consequences of their actions. It could have been simpler if nothing had happened to Ophelia. She was not surprised that they would want to manipulate the whole thing to put their own trusted person in the werewolf kingdom to help their situation. If only they knew that Nicklaus requesting to marry Ophelia was not to make peace... She sighed heavily. She turned to explain things a little but Nicklaus was long gone. She sighed more deeply and walked closer to her ward.

Sensing that the warmth was gone, Ophelia stirred awake. She sat up slowly when she saw the woman sitting beside her.

"Mother" she called out softly and then snuggled into the older woman's arms.

"Good girl" he woman said. She patted the girl softly and rhythmically on her back whispering softly until the girl fell asleep again.

A long while after, she got up and quietly closed the door.

She walked to the living room, closed the windows and sat on down on a sofa. She took a tablet stone that was beside her and put her right thumb on the left corner of the stone. It lit up and a keyboard containing symbols that represent the Alkal alphabet characters were displayed. She pressed on some characters and the face of Artima, the eldest of the elders popped up...
