The next day there were no attacks on any black rat gang members. It felt like a quiet before a storm. Both Rufus and Haley were waiting at the old man Haufen's bar while it was closed, just waiting for something to happen.
They heard someone running fast towards the bar.
"Boss, Lady Haley. We have a big problem. Come with me, both of you know," Leif yelled and came rushing through the door.
~~
Both Haley and Rufus rushed out as Leif took them to the riverbank.
"Leif, what is going on?"
Leif was too scared to say anything as he was taking them near a warehouse at the docks. They hid behind a corner where Leif explained the situation when they arrived.
"They have Mrs. Jean."
Both Haley and Rufus were stunned. Both Haley and Rufus had known Mrs. Jean since they were small kids.
"How the hell did this happen!?" Haley asked.
I…I don't know. One of our members was caught and sent back to deliver a message to meet up here. I went to investigate beforehand to ensure that it wasn't a trap. I slipped in unnoticed and saw inside Mrs. Jean tied up. She is still alive, though, I think she is bait to lure you, boss, into a trap," Leif explained.
Both Haley and Rufus were furious. They had gotten Mrs. Jean involved in all of this.
Rufus decided to blast in through the front door but Leif stopped him.
"The man with the long sword is there too. Are you sure you want to rush in like that?"
Rufus ignored it and decided to go in still, but before he got the chance to walk past the door old man Haufen came blasting furiously through the door.
"Oi! I hope you bastards are ready to meet your maker. Because I'm going to give you guys a one-way ticket to hell," old man Haufen yelled.
All the gangsters inside the warehouse took up their weapons ready to fight.
"So, you are the boss of the black rat gang?" asked the boss of the sons of the red moon.
Old man Haufen looked confused. He then smiled.
"YES. I AM THE BOSS OF THE BLACK RAT GANG!"
"If I go down, I can at least protect those kids from the same faith. It's my last gift to you two," thought old man Haufen and smiled.
"No, he is not," Edward said, unclimaxing the situation.
The air around everyone became awkward. Some man had just walked inside the warehouse that was supposed to lure in the boss of the black rat gang, but some bulky old man came claiming to be the boss instead. Even Mrs. Jean, who had his mouth tied, looked embarrassed for his husband. Everyone was confused until one of the gang members inside the warehouse recognized him.
"Isn't he the owner of the bar? Like this woman's husband?"
"Then what is he doing here? Wasn't he supposed to be hanging there with his wife?" yelled out the boss in frustration.
"Heh, do you think those punks you sent after me could make a dent on me? After I quickly dealt with them, I learned their reasoning for attacking, and that's when I learned you people had taken my wife."
"So, he is just some person with no divine power. Let's get rid of him for now. One hostage is sure enough to drag the boss of the black rat gang. Crossbowmen, shoot to kill!" said the boss and commanded the crossbowmen to shoot him.
Three crossbows released their bolts at the same time. They flew extremely fast, and old man Haufen didn't have a chance to dodge them. Rufus then quickly ran past him before the crossbow bolts could hit Haufen. Rufus kicked the air and the crossbows withered to dust.
Rufus was ready to help old man Haufen and save Mrs. Jean. Edward then also joined in on the battle. This time Rufus dodged the attack, slowly becoming faster, thanks solely because he was becoming more divine.
"Oi. Kid! What the hell are you doing here?" old man Haufen yelled at Rufus annoyingly.
"Well…Uhm I'd ask the same thing yourself. This is our fight. I don't want you to get involved,"
"INVOLVED? YOU BASTARD! THAT'S MY WIFE HANGING THERE, YOU IDIOT KID!"
Haley joined the fight and kicked one of the gangsters down to the ground, who was just about to attack Haufen.
"How about you knuckleheads, have this conversation later," Haley said, irritated.
Haley and Old man Haufen started to fight the other gangsters in the warehouse. They were outnumbered, but old man Haufen was a good fighter and could hold his own easily. Haley was also a natural fighter and had been training under Haufen for a little while and was now fighting toe to toe against gangsters. Some rushed to fight against Rufus, but Edward stopped them with his sword. He wanted to fight Rufus one on one with no interference.
Both looked at each other for a while and then they clashed. Edward kept attacking with his unorthodox way with his sword while Rufus kept dodging the best he could. Every time Rufus tried to attack, he left a crater on the ground or destroyed anything within a meter's radios of his fists. Unfortunately for Rufus, he was unable to land a single hit and was getting small cuts all around his body.
Edward stopped attacking wanting to know more about Rufus.
"Let me ask you, why are you a gang boss? You don't seem like a person who would even be in a gang," Edward asked.
"Because I was asked."
"Wut...? Ah, I see, this was your family business. You had no choice but to lead after the previous boss passed away, so your family member asked you to take care of the family business."
"No, I had never met these people before, and they asked me to be their boss, and I was unable to say no."
Edward looked confused. He tried to somehow get a better picture of the person who Rufus was.
"Did…did the gang have something on you forcing you to say yes?"
"NO, HE IS JUST THE NUMBER ONE PUSHOVER IN THE UNIVERSE!!!" Haley and Old man Haufen yelled at the same time.
Edward could not believe what he was seeing. Someone had managed to become a boss of a gang through sheer coincidence.
Old man Haufen and Haley were being pushed back. They were skilled, but even for them, forty gangsters were too much.
"Enough of this," yelled the boss of the sons of the red moon.
The fighting stopped for a short moment.
"You stinking sword for hire. You are completely useless. Kill that boy already. And you other two. Stop resisting, or the lady gets knifed," the boss yelled, holding up a knife.
