Chapter 1 - All the Princes I know are bald and old

Light murmurs rippled through the hall, hushed whispers, sweet giggles mixed with glasses of wine. The ball was centred around the three handsome bachelors, each more remarkable than the other.

Suddenly the large doors burst open with a bang and in came a woman, her pale cheeks flushed red and her delicate hands clutching onto her purple gown. She scanned the crowd with her pale green eyes that twinkled like stars. For a second the public went in a daze, everything from her sparkling dress to her delicately pined hair spelt elegance. Like a princess from the upper realms.

Her eyelashes fluttered and she lowered her eyes, dropping her dress and slowly stepping down the stairs.

Someone sucked in a breath, followed by soft whispers. All the eyes were on the mysterious fairy. One of the three bachelors stepped forward and walked to her. People parted like the dead sea and it gave an illusion of something out of the fairy tale.

The fair maiden stepped forward, walking to the mand to meet him halfway.

The man offered his hand to her, his lips curving into a smile. The beautiful lady smiled in return placed her small her in his and the next second the handsome man was flipped over and dying on his back on the floor with a heeled foot pressing on his neck.

Lux narrowed her eyes as she pressed her heel on the man's neck and twisted his arm that was still in her grasp. Gasps and shouts rang out but Lux just rolled her eyes. What top-notch acting. A pale led was revealed from her dress that squeezed on the man's neck, her jewelled sandals sparkling. Lux pulled out a small pistol from the strap at her tight and pointed at the man.

"Who are you and how much were you paid to pull this shit?" Lux asked in a monotone, eyes focused on her target.

Shing sound resonated in the panicked hall as swords were drawn. Lux knitted her eyebrows. This is taking it too far, if they would have pulled out guns and started an open fire then it would have been more believable.

"Let go of the His Highness," someone yelled and rushed at her. Lux frowned and simply pulled the trigger shooting him in the head.

"Do you people don't understand the concept of a gun?" Lux said waving her gun at them. She didn't even know why she bothered with her comment, but still felt the need to explain. More panicked screams rang out, each shriller than the other. Men dressed in blue uniforms stormed in through the doors. But for now, they heeded her warning and all took a step back.

Without a doubt, this man under her feet had some value. "You,- Lux looked down at the said man and asked- start talking."

The man chuckled, "I am the second Prince of Eflana, Tristan Armis Fromark. Nice to make your acquaintance my Lady." Lux observed him, dark skin, silver long hair and green eyes. He had a playful smirk playing on his lips like he found the whole situation funny.

"By the way, aren't you worried that I can see up your skirt?" Tristan asked.

Lux kept her face frozen and eyes deadpan, "Then have a field trip. All the Princes that I know are old and bald. Who are you? Out of the 195 countries, none are named Eflana."

Lux pressed a finger on her earpiece, "June, unit 3 report. Pinpoint my location. June. June report?" Lux frowned, her expression twisting as she kept repeating but the line remained blank. Her hand tightened around her gun. She pulled out her earpiece and crushed it between her fingers.

Suddenly Lux dogged to the side, swiftly escaping the knife that was thrown at her from behind her. She bend down, her face inching closer to Tristan and stared at his eyes, a flash of intrigue crossed her eyes before she straightened up and swung her hand, with a flick of her wrist a small two-inch blade was embedded in the shoulder of the one who had aimed a dagger at her.

Lux suddenly felt strong killing intent and raised her head to rest on a man dressed in black. His eyes were narrowed and he had drawn his sword and was covering a blond man behind him.

"You must underestimate Reaghan to have the guts to pull this stunt in public," he spoke through gritted teeth. There was a red aura around him like his killing intent had manifested into swirls and wisps of red and black around him.

A loud bang shocked everyone and everyone saw a man stumble out of the fading smoke, dressed in a black suit and covered in dust.

"What the fuck are you doing?" He started at Lux, mouth opened in a dumbfounded expression. Lux immediately scowled.

"What do you think I am doing Bolt?"

"You are- what, what is-" numerous swords immediately pointed at Bolt while he stood rooted at his place with a stupid face.

He joined swiped his arm and the guards around him stumbled back and began convulsing. Bolt shrugged his collar and waved his hand through his hair to get rid of the dust.

"That bastard bombed the kitchen and ran away! And when I-"

Someone suddenly cut off Bolt. "Who are you both? Were you sent here by Volaris?! This is an act of -"

"Shut up and stop interrupting." Bolt glared at him and continued walking towards Lux at a leisure pace, patting at his clothes.

"June, response. Unit 2 speaking. June?" Bolt called out at his earpiece, his lips drawing taut when there was no reply.

He made eye contact with Lux and understood that the same was with her earpiece. June was not responding.

Prince Tristan clasped Lux's ankled in his hand, "how long are you going to make me stay like this?" Tiny vines grew from his hand and started climbing up the pale leg pressing down on his neck. The gentle vines grew taut and pulled back to aim and pierce together but before they could break skin they disappeared into ashes. His grip on her leg tightened.

Loud booms sounded in a distance, likely from out of the hall. The floor vibrated as if the plates were shifting away. Cracks formed on the marble floor and glasses smashed to the floor. The hall turned into a chaotic mess.

Tristan took this moment to twist Lux's ankle and jerk her away. Lux let him roll out from under her feet and watched as the Prince flipped over to stand up. Vines as thick as a tree trunk broke out of the marble floor and snapped at her.

Numerous things happened in the next second. Thick walls grew out of the floor and blocked the vines from all sides. The angry man in black attacked, his sword aura making an arc. Bolt flipped a table at him and touched the ground, sending chains of electric shocks. Lastly, the large glass dome broke with a loud bang.
