It has been a few months and Yuki adjusted to the new area. She distances herself from others and works diligently. She wanted to reach her parent's expectations and become a good role model to her siblings that had a little more time baking in the oven. Somedays, there was this boy that would tease her but she put her headphone in and ignored the arrogant boy. She knew that it was a matter of time that this mental abuse transition to verbal.
" Now class gets with your partner." the homeroom teacher said.
There would be projects and the same students would work in a different pair but somehow Yuki finds always end up being partners with someone that's never in school. In fact, she never met Kagome, or that is what the teacher says her name is. Yuki began to think that she does not even exist or that the teacher lied to make her feel less alone.
A student with black hair and brown eyes came running into the classroom late. Her hair stopped a little past her shoulders as she entered the class out of breath.
" I'm so sorry I'm late, Sensei!" the student apologized.
" Kagome, everyone working in pairs." the homeroom teacher informed." You are working with Yuki, she's the new student over there and she'll tell your everything you missed out on.
Kagome made her way to her seat and spotted the transfer student on the way there. She went and decided to introduce herself," Hi, my name is Kagome. The Sensei said you're my partner. You're here right?" She tries to make basic conversation.
Yuki handed the student the paperwork and copy of the information that she missed out on. Kagome accepted the notes then saw the transfer student's name written on top of the paper." Your name is Yuki? That is so cute." Kagome complimented," Doesn't it means snow?" She asked.
Yuki stopped her pencil on the paper. That's the nicest thing someone ever said to me but the niceness won't last long. It's only a matter of time before Kagome joins another group. She thought to herself and had little hope at first but that what it was just 'little hope' soon it vanish as her thoughts consumed her. She did not say anything other and continued writing. The school district did not matter, she will always be alone and nothing will change that.
The homeroom dismissed the class for their lunch
Yuki opened her lunch and ate alone at the desk. She isolated herself from everyone and zone them out.
" Hey, Kagome! Is that you?" One of the student women said.
" Are you still feeling sick?" another one asked." He said that you were down with the fever."
A sweat dropped on the side of Kagome's head. Gramps! Are you running out of lies and telling people anything? She thought to herself before responding to her friends." Yes, I feel so much better and it feels good to be back." She said.
" Where do you want to each Kagome." one of her friends asks." the usual?"
" Actually." Kagome pulled up a seat to her assigned partner's desk." Let's eat here. This is a partner, Yuki."
Yuki was caught off guard and it surprised her as three more students gathered around her desk and they began to eat their lunch.
" This Ayumi, Eri and Yuka." Kagome introduces and hopes for Yuki to join her friend group. For the few days she has been back, she notices that Yuki is always by herself and often distances herself from the other students. She wanted to brighten her day and to become great friends. The more the merrier She thought to herself.
Yuki found comfort being knowledge by others and for the first time in her life she was a little happier. It was a bit overwhelming because she was not used to company.
" E-excuse m-me, I have use t-the b-bathroom." Yuki took a breather and went out. It been a while since she has been back.
" Yuki-chan has been gone for a while," Ayami mentioned.
" Right," Eri added.
" Someone should go check up on her," Yuki suggested.
" I will be right back, I'm going to check on her." Kagome stood up and was worried.
The boy tease Yuki and shoved her against the locker." You are stupid. Doesn't anybody like you? Can you just disappear?" He yelled and hit her in the face. She was minding her own business but this boy wanted to blow off some steam because his parents were getting a divorce.
" Why don't you pick on someone your own size?" Kagome shouted and threw her textbooks at the student boy.
Yuki could not stop the tears from streaming down her cheeks. It was the first time that someone ever stood up for her. She did not feel invisible and actually felt like her existence was not worthless. Kagome was her savior.
" Aye, stop it!" He took off.
Kagome was furious and wanted to teach him a lesson. She noticed that Yuki was in tears and comforted her. " It's going be alright, I promise!" She said and patted Yuki's head.
Kagome reported the situation to the principal. She begged Yuki to say her piece but she just stayed silent and was afraid. Kagome did not care, she told them everything. The boy got suspended and his parents were notified.
The boy was forced to apologize and the bullying stopped.
Several weeks came by
" Y-your back! I-is it okay?" Yuki questioned.
" My back?" Kagome was filled with confusion.
" T-the teachers s-said that y-you hurt your b-back and had to g-get s-surgery," Yuki answered and clarified for her. She started to feel a little overwhelmed because this was the longest conversation with someone.
Gramps! What did you say this time? You would've just said I was sick in bed Kagome thought before responding back to her friend," Yeah, I'm feeling a whole lot better."
Ayumi has black wavy shoulder-length hair and brown eyes. Eri had shoulder-length straight black hair. Yuki had very short hair. They wore the same uniform and are the perfect trio and often keep with the rumors and drama. They ate together and it was less lonely. Yuki did not really speak and just enjoy having company even if it was for the moment.
Next Day
" Good morning mom, good morning dad." Yuki was actually excited and kissed both of her parents on the cheek. She was happy and was actually looking forward to going to school. Her parents were pleased to see her daughter in a cheerful mood.
When she arrived at school Kagome was absent. She was the first person that had the courage to stand up for me. She admired Kagome and saw her as her savior. She would look back at Kagome's desk as days would turn into weeks. It made her feel lonely once again.
" Oh, Kagome? She's back in the hospital because she got an infection from being released too early" Ayumi said before taking another bite." That what her grandpa told the teacher."
She was just fine yesterday Yuki could've sworn that her friend was just fine the other day. She just hopes that Kagome's recovered. She could not wait for her to come back.
