Here is what happened last time on Chasing The Moment
Benjamin made me some coffee and is standing and laughing at the two love bites on both sides of my neck. Benjamin tells me that I need to call my parents as they are calling him. I call my dad to let him know that I am okay and leave. I arrive home, and my mom is freaked out.
My mom releases the hug and says;
"You have to start packing as we will have to leave soon for the airport. We don't want to miss our flight."
I look around the room and say;
"Everything is almost packed. I have only a few items left."
"Good. Then see you downstairs when you are done with the rest."
"Okay."
I walk into my room and sit on my bed while looking around my room while feeling a bit sentimental. I can't believe the time has arrived for me to leave the house. I have dreamed about this exact situation for so long, and now that the time is here, I don't want to leave.
I look a the picture frame on my desk of me and my sister. I stand up and take the photo frame from my desk. As I look at it, I think to myself that my sister would have been fourteen by now. How sad is it that she is not here to see me off? I had so many fun moments in this house, but also some were sad. I miss you, Katie. I wish you were here. I hear my mom saying behind me;
"Do you miss her as well?"
"Well, I am standing in my room and looking around. I think of all the memories here. I must admit that I feel a bit nostalgic."
My mom walks closer and say;
"It's normal for you to feel that way. And remember, the only constant in life is change, and nothing lasts forever."
"That is true. And standing here, I think that change is happening whether I want it or not." I hold out the photo and say;
"I remember this day. We went to the park, and fall was starting. Do you remember how she wouldn't get off the swing? No matter what we told her, she wouldn't get off the swing."
My mom smiles as she walks closer and takes the photo frame from me, and says;
"I remember that day very well. Katie had such an infectious laugh while she was swinging that day. All she wanted was for someone to swing her back and forth."
I say;
"And then the very moment we got her off, she started crying all the way back home." A weird silence falls on the conversation, as both of us are missing her. I look at my mom and ask;
"Mom?"
"Yes, dear?"
"Do you think it would be possible to drive past the old house for old times sake?"
She raises her hand to look at her watch, then back to me and asks;
"Do you think that you will be able to pack your stuff quickly?"
I look around the room and reply;
"Yes, I think I could."
She puts one arm around my shoulder and says;
"Then it shouldn't be a problem."
She hands me the photo frame back, gives me a kiss on the head, and starts to walk out of my room, and I say;
"Thanks, mom."
She stops to look at me and says;
"Pleasure."
She continues to walk out. I quickly pack up the last of my stuff and get myself ready. I pick up my backpack and suitcase, look back around my room, and walk downstairs. I put the suitcase by the door, and my dad, walking down the steps, asks;
"All packed?"
"Yes."
"Good. Cause your mother tells me that we are making a pitstop along the way."
"Yeah. I thought it would be cool if we drive past the old house. You know, for old times sake?"
"So, it was your idea?"
"Unfortunately, yes."
"It was a great idea. Listen, Ethan. I have some news about your car."
"Okay?"
"Your car will be fixed by tomorrow."
"Really? That is great news. But, how will you get it to me?"
"I will get the car delivered to the college."
I hug my dad and say;
"Thank you so much!"
"College, so are you looking forward to it?"
"Yes."
As my mom comes walking down the steps, she asks;
"Are you boys ready?"
"I am almost out the door already, mom."
"Good, we need to leave if we are going to make out flight."
My dad takes my suitcase and walks with us to the car. I put everything in the trunk, and we drive off. We drive a few blocks down the road, and my dad stops in front of our old house. We get out and stand in front of the house, just looking at it. I smile and point to a section on the pavement and say;
"Look at her baby handprints in the cement."
My mom bends down, touches the cement, and says;
"It is so cute." She looks up at the house and says;
"This place has so many memories of Katie. It feels weird being here without her."
"I know what you mean, mom."
I put my arm around her shoulder. My dad says;
"Come, let's go."
"Okay."
We get back into the car, and my dad drives to the airport. My mom looks back at me, staring out the window sitting all quiet, and asks;
"What's up, Ethan?"
"It is a weird feeling of leaving everything behind for something else."
My dad replies;
"Don't worry. It is just the uncertainty of what lies ahead that is causing it. You will see once that wears off, college will be a blast. I promise you."
"That is where you two met?"
My mom looks at my dad and replies to me;
"Actually, yes. At the very same campus that you are going to. You never know you might meet your soul mate on campus as well."
"Phfft, I am there to study, not get married. If I wanted to get married, I would have asked one of the girls of last night."
My mom whips her hear around, looks at me, and asks;
"Sorry, what?"
I give her an uncomfortable smile and reply;
"I am only joking."
My dad saves my ass and says;
"Wow, we are at the airport already. Can you believe it? Look, honey."
My dad looks in his rearview mirror and winks at me. He drives into the parking lot and parks the car. I get my bags from the trunk, and we walk into the terminal and board the flight. Two hours later, the plane lands at the airport. We get into a taxi and drive to the college.
I can't help but have mixed feelings about college. The fear and excitement of this transition into this new world as the taxi arrives at the grounds. The driver gets out and opens the trunk. We all get out, and my dad looks around and says;
"Wow. It is like I am in a time warp, and no time has passed. Do you smell that?"
Before anyone can say something, he continues;
"It smells like college spirit to me!"
The driver puts my bags down, closes the trunk, and my dad tells him to wait as they are leaving for the airport again with him. My mom gives me a hug and says;
"You should enjoy your time here. Come and visit us soon, okay?"
"I will."
She gives a kiss and says;
"Love you!"
In the distance, I hear a guy saying to his friends;
"Oh shit, did you see that? I would want that hottie to kiss me as well." He continues making kissing sounds as I reply to my mom;
"Love you too."
I peek over at the guys standing in the distance and see they are jocks. My dad walks around the cab to us and says;
"Family hug!"
He walks over and hugs both of us. One of the jocks in the background screams;
"Homophobe alert! Watch out!"
My dad lets us go and says;
"I wonder if dean Greyson is still working here? He would take care of these guys really quickly, or you know what, excuse me for one second."
Just as my dad turns around to go and talk to them, my mom looks at him and says;
"Really, Brad? Remember why we are here? Let's try to focus for a second, please?"
"Sorry, honey. You know I can't take shit like that."
My mom looks back at me and says;
"Well, then, this is it. Are you ready?"
"I think I am. Thanks again to the both of you for everything."
My mom blows me a kiss and gets into the cab. My dad points to me with his finger, he smiles at me, and says;
"Enjoy your time here and remember to call us when you are settled, okay?"
"I will. Thanks, dad."
They wave at me as the taxi takes off while looking at me through the window. I wave back and watch as the taxi turns into the road and drives away. One of the jocks makes another comment at me and says;
"Ahh, look at the mommy's boy watching them leave. Is he going to cry now that they aren't here anymore to hug him?"
I shake my head while mumbling under my breath;
"Fucking assholes! I thought that I left this shit back at home."
I hear him say;
"What was that you said? Did you say something back to me? Hey, I am talking to you."
I ignore him, pick up my backpack and my suitcase and start to walk away. I hear someone screaming;
"Watch ooooout!"
