Here is what happened last time on Chasing The Moment
Bentley comes to find me, and I am standing in the hallway talking to Benjamin on the phone. I show Bentley my roommate's attitude, and we walk down to reception to see if I can't get another room. That is where I meet Kelly again. We talk for a bit, and Bentley invites her to the party at the fraternity.
I respond to Bentley's statement and say;
"I guess that it wouldn't hurt to check out the fraternity and see if I can not make a few friends. Besides, my dad was a fraternity president here at this college."
"What? That means that you have one foot in the door to get accepted. Now, you have to come tonight."
"Okay. I am going to lay down and get some rest. Give me your cell number so that I can call you when I wake up."
"I know that you are tired, but you will be missing out on a lot if you go to sleep now. You need to suck it up, get yourself an energy drink, explore the grounds and meet new people. Wait, speaking of new people, I think I see my sister."
Bentley whistles and then screams into the distance;
"Hey, Shelby. Over here."
Everyone turns around looks at us. I see a brunette girl waving back at Bentley. She finishes her conversation and walks over to us. I see she is wearing tight-fit faded jeans with a black button-up shirt. She comes closer, Bentley introduces the two of us;
"Ethan, this is my twin sister Shelby."
"Hi."
I notice her chestnut brown eyes as she looks at me while saying;
"Hello. So, you were the guy that got hit with the ball in the face."
"That's me. Did anyone else see that?"
She tries to stop her laugh as she says;
"No...well, maybe just the entire college."
"Good. I was hoping you would say that."
She giggles and says;
"Sarcasm, I take it?"
Bentley puts his arm around her shoulder and says;
"So, my man Ethan here is thinking of pledging for a fraternity."
She focuses on my impressed and asks;
"Really?"
He continues;
"Yeah. Ethan likes long walks on the beach, going to parties to get drunk, and having threesomes with girls that he doesn't know."
"Really? Why don't you tell everyone what happened?"
Bentley smiles at me looks around, and says;
"Hey, everyone. My friend here had-"
I put my hand over his mouth and say as loud as I can to everyone that is staring at us;
"Never mind. My friend here is off his medication."
I take my hand off his mouth and say;
"Shut the fuck up!"
He smiles at me and says;
"Look, Ethan, no one around here cares what you did."
Shelby quickly says;
"There is nothing to be ashamed about what you did. But, it will score you a lot of points with the fraternity brothers if they found out about it."
I answer sarcastically;
"Good. Hearing you say that makes me feel so much better."
Shelby pauses for a moment and asks;
"Sarcasm again?"
"You are a very perceptive girl."
She nods and replies;
"Why, thank you. I don't know you, but I will take that as a compliment. You two gentlemen need to excuse me as I have a few things left to do before I go to the sorority party tonight." She raises her eyebrows as she walks away, saying;
"Be good, you two, and if you can't...be good at it."
I stare at Bentley angrily and say;
"What the fuck, man? Soon, everyone will know what happened to me last night!"
"Really? If you are worried about my sister, don't. She doesn't care at all because she's into girls only. Maybe the two of you can share your war stories sometime?"
"Hahaha, very funny. Look, I am going to bed...so see you later."
"You sure?"
I turn around and start walking away from him as I say;
"Never been more sure about something in my life. See you later on."
"You're missing out!"
"Whatever."
I walk up the stairs and head to my room. I open my room door, walk straight to my bed, and fall on it. My roommate says;
"Hey, what do you think you are doing?"
"Sleeping."
"I have some people coming over in a few minutes."
I lift my head from my pillow, staring at him, and say;
"That's fine. But if you wake me, I will fucking throw you out of that window, do you understand me?"
I put my head down and fall asleep. Soon, I wake up with what sounds like a cat is being dragged over a hot plate with drums in the background. I open my eyes and see the room is full of people. They are dressed in black and have hair hanging down their shoulders. I sit up, and one of the guys holds out a beer and says;
"Here, have one buddy. It looks like you need it more than I do."
I cover my eyes with a hand as I sit up while trying to wake up. I dismissively give the guy a hand wave while shaking my head. My head is pounding, so I open my drawer, take two headache pills. I grab my phone, get up and push through the crowd, and leave my room.
I close the door behind me and sit down on the floor with my head in between my legs. What a fucking day. I receive a text message. I take out my phone and see it's from Lexi;
"Hey, Ethan. Where did you go last night? I hope everything is still okay between us. Chat later."
I put my phone back in my pocket. I check the time and see that it's almost seven. I get up and head down the stairs. I see Kelly and Bentley talking to each other. I walk to them and say;
"Sorry, I'm a bit late."
Kelly hugs me and says;
"No worries. We were just talking about you."
"Oh, really?"
Bentley smiles at me and says;
"Are we ready?"
I hold out my hand and reply;
"You lead the way."
An uncomfortable silence follows us as we are walking to the party. I attempt to ask Kelly a question but quickly decide not to.
Kelly asks me;
"So, are things weird between us?"
"A little, yeah. I mean, last night was my first time drinking or having sex, so I don't know how to handle whatever this is."
"But you have had girlfriends before?"
"Yes. But we only kissed."
"So, think of what happened in the same way. We kissed and had fun. That's it, okay?"
I nod at her and reply;
"Okay. What the fuck did you give me last night? What was that white pill?"
She smiles and says;
"Oh, ecstasy. I never party without it."
I mumble under my breath;
"Then I can tick that one off my bucket list as well."
Kelly asks me;
"Did you say something?"
"Oh, no."
Kelly asks me;
"So, Ethan. What made you decide to come to this college?"
"Besides the fact that my parents came here to study when they were younger, it's the best school for becoming a lawyer, and the fact that they offered me a full academic scholarship was the big attraction for me. What about you?"
"Wow...full scholarship, you say? You had to have worked hard to achieve that?"
"Yeah, I did. But enough about me. What about you, Kelly? What made you decide to come here?"
"Well, almost the same as you. I got an athletic scholarship for track and field. It was simply too good to pass up."
"Wow, that's insane, Kelly. Congratulations."
She smiles at me and replies;
"Thanks. My parents aren't happy that I moved so far away, but this is an opportunity of a lifetime for me, you know what I mean?"
I nod in agreement and reply;
"Yeah, I do."
Bentley interrupts the two of us and says;
"I'm also here, not that anyone cares."
I smile at him and reply;
"Okay. Then let's hear your story."
"I came here because I got accepted."
Kelly and I look at each other, burst out laughing. I reply to him;
"Well, rock on...Bentley!"
As we are slowly walking along the path, I can hear the beat of the music becoming louder. I ask Bentley;
"Where the hell is this place?"
"Just down the road. We are almost there."
I tell the two of them;
"You two are the only people I know here, so please don't leave me alone for one minute, okay?"
Bentley puts his arm around me and smilingly says;
"Sure, buddy. No problem."
As we are walking towards the music, I think to myself, where have I heard that before?
