Last night was a night Emeryn couldn't forget. She had never cried or hugged any man before, other than her father, after her talk with Chain. He had calmed her down to gain her trust, so she wouldn't keep suspecting them to be demons.
Amelia had offered her bed to Emeryn and brought out a sleeping bag to sleep in. Amelia had also given her some spare military clothes to sleep in as she was only wearing a gambeson. Emeryn took off all her knight armour and placed it at the corner of the room.
It was hard for Emeryn to fall asleep at first but pushed all the negative thoughts out of her head and trusted what Chain said to her.
Emeryn thought the bed she was lying in was very comfortable considering it was very small. This reminded her of her bed in her family's estate. She desperately wanted to go back home and tell her parents she was safe and not cause them any more worry.
--------------------
The sun rose early in the morning. It was now 8 am and the whole of Delta squad and their new allies was now awake.
Chain got up and took a quick shower. They were told to not waste water before they could complete their water and sewage system. After his shower, he quickly got dressed and headed out into the kitchen area for some breakfast.
Chain saw the rest of his squad prepared eating their breakfast while he noticed tell his new guests were thoroughly enjoying their cereal and milk.
"This is delicious!" Gen exclaimed, never in her life had she had something this delicious before.
"Agreed!" Emeryn joins in. Back at her knight barracks she and her fellow knights were given the occasional meat and fruits but compared to the cereal she was having, she never thought something so small could taste so delicious and be filling at the same time.
"Morning everybody, I can see somebody's enjoying their breakfast." Chain said as he was referring to Emeryn and Gen.
"Morning sir Chain." Says Emeryn.
"I kinda like the sound of that but you can just call me Chain. Let's skip the formalities."
"How is everybody else doing?" Asks Chain.
"First day sleeping on another planet, better than expected." Answers Kretschmer.
Sophia looks down continuing to eat her cereal.
"Didn't get much sleep since my roommate was snoring." Replies Amelia as she teases Emeryn.
"I do not snore!" Emeryn replies ignored by Amelia.
"Haha, I'm just kidding. Just busting your chops."
"That's another phrase from where my squad comes from."
"Ah, I see then. Just like Capeesh."
"Exactly."
"How about you Gen?" Chain asks.
"The bed provided by miss Sophia was very comfortable. Are you all high ranking soldiers from your world?" Gen asks.
"I agree. The bed was very comfortable and was of the same standards as what most high-ranked nobles would have."
Krestechmer steps in to answer their questions. "If I continue serving in the military, I can see myself rising through the ranks. But unfortunately, I'm just a corporal now and Chain is a sergeant rank which means he is my superior."
"What he meant was were not really up all the way there in the chain of command. Were more of the common soliders and neither of us are nobles but Amelia is somewhat close to one by your terms." Chain rephrases what Krestechmer said so the both of them could understand it easier.
"Hey! My mum got nothing to do with me." Amelia was annoyed at Chain as she knew what he meant.
"Then how are you allowed such privileges then. You have even have running warm water."
"That's technology for you. It doesn't matter even if I am a sergeant or a general, we've all been allowed to enjoy this luxury due to our civilization's advancement over the many centuries."
"Still, I have never heard of any nation granting even common soldiers such privileges."
"I thought I told you we were from Earth."
"You never said where your nation was. You just pointed up to the sky."
Everyone giggle's a bit, even Gen as they already explained to her earlier.
"And that's what exactly what I meant. Were from another world."
"Preposterous. That's just impossible."
"You should believe them miss Emeryn. These people speak the truth. Look around you, these lights of theirs are not powered by magic but by electricity. Their 'outpost' is a clear sign they are not from anywhere in Nenoria. You of all people have already witnessed first hand the power they possess."
"Well, that is true. Everything they have surprised me. The design and quality of their armour can't compare to the finest blacksmiths in Ustiria. It's just hard to believe they really come from somewhere beyond Nenoria."
"Don't worry Emeryn, you'll understand sooner or late-" Chain was about to finish his sentence but was interrupted by the outpost's AI.
"*Beep* *Beep* General Sherman is calling you for a briefing. Demanding Delta Squad to be ready for in the meeting room by eta 5 min."
"Where did that voice come from. Is this place haunted?" Emeryn asks scared as she wondered where the voice come from. Gen also look scared as it was her first time hearing the AI's voice.
"Calm down guys, it's just the AI. This is the perfect opportunity to introduce yourselves."
"Alright then," Emeryn replies.
All of them finish their breakfast and head upstairs into the meeting room. When Emeryn and Gen entered the room. They could see the room had one large rectangle window and a metal table with blue glass in the middle. Around them, they were surrounded by machines they could not comprehend yet.
Emeryn was in her armour while Gen wore her hunter clothing. A screen slid out from the table and turned on.
"Attention!" Chain shouts the command.
"At ease." Replies back General Sherman. "I see you are now awake sergeant. I can see you made some new friends."
"Yes sir, this here is Emeryn Sacobrel and the other is Gen."
The two looked at the screen attentively and Emeryn thought there was someone trapped in the mirror.
"It is my honour to meet the superior of my knights' saviour. I hope his efforts will release you from your trapped imprisonment in this mirror." Emeryn answers.
They all look at Emeryn and understood she didn't know that she was talking through a communication device.
"Did I offend you in some way?" Emeryn looked concerned.
"Haha, so the reports were true. First magic and now knights. I love this fantasy world already." The general laughs at Emeryn's misunderstanding. "No, miss Emeryn. I am not trapped in this mirror. This is a video call. I'm currently up on our ship in space which is beyond your planet's sky."
Emeryn was at a loss for words. She did not know how to reply. The longer she is with these people, the more she's learning many things about them.
"Excuse Emeryn here. She is still new to all these things. It is a pleasure to meet you general." Gen bows.
"It is nice to meet you too miss Gen. From Kretschmer's reports, you are half-fairy and can use magic. I hope I don't bother you with this request but could you show me some of your magic."
"It is not a problem."
Soon after, Gen prepares a simple illusion spell. A small blue dragon made of light appears from the tips of her fingers and starts to fly around the room for a short period of time. It even breathed out an imaginary flame from its mouth that showered everyone with blue tiny orbs.
The performance ends with the dragon returning to Gen's hand and exploding in a marvellous sight.
"That was awesome Gen!" Kretschmer complemented Gen's performance. The rest of the room was in awe. Especially for General Sherman. His expression was priceless. It was like a child seeing a real-life dragon for the first time.
"That was truly amazing miss Gen. You've just fulfilled my inner child's dream." The General says.
"Thank you," Gen replies.
"Alright then, back to the topic at hand. The superiors back on Earth have decided for all squads to pursue for diplomacy with the leader of this nation we are about to land our colonists and explore the terrain."
"May I ask a question," Emeryn raises her hand.
"Granted,"
"From what I have heard, you are bringing more of your people to settle in Ustiria and want to establish diplomacy with our king. Is that correct?"
"That is correct. By no means are we here to invade. We just want to ask for permission before we start landing all our supplies and colonist and build our first city here. By the sounds of it, you sound well acquainted with the king of your country."
"In a matter of fact, I am the knight commander of the Order of Herleva. We are an order especially used to be assigned to the king as his bodyguard. Before Chain had saved me and my knights, we were tasked with escorting our king back to the capital before we were ambushed by demons."
The room was shocked. Everyone didn't know anything about her except for her name. She had just recently opened up to them after they tried to gain her trust and erase her suspicions of them being demons.
"My oh my. For such a young lady to carry such a burden. I don't recall reading any of this information in your report Kretschmer." The General asks.
"Well, we did have some troubles trying to communicate with Emeryn here at first," Kretschmer replies.
The General looks at Emeryn but she adverts her eyes away trying to avoid eye contact. She was embarrassed when Kretschmer brought up yesterday's demon misunderstanding.
"*Sigh* Well, at least we have a connection with the king now. I want you and your squad to be ready by 0930hrs. Were sending down a dropship to give you two HUMVEE's to head to the capital. Our satellites aren't up yet so your GPS will not be operational. Were out in the wild travelling blind here. This is where Emeryn and Gen come in. From the reports, Gen is now employed under the IFU and now is our guide for this nation. Emeryn, you are a knight commander part of an Order closely associated with the king. This will prove to be the perfect opportunity to establish diplomatic relations and gain information from this nation."
"Yes sir." Chain gives his salute.
"Good then. Stay safe and good luck Delta Squad." The video switches off and the screen retracts back into the table.
"Well, it looks like we have another mission for us, squad. Get your gear ready and prepare for our new rides."
