Chapter 9 - Gobo The Merchant

The year 2305

Orbiting planet Orgon-4c (Nenoria)

6th Colonist Fleet

Flagship

IFUSF (Interplanetary Federation Union Space Force) Cruiser "Heaven's Chariot"

Senator Edith Cowan's Office...

"When shall we announce to the colonists that we'll be able to send them down ma'am?" Asks General Sherman, standing in front of Senator Cowan's desk.

"Since the entire of the operation has changed," the Senator takes a pause remembering the reports she's received from Outpost Delta, "the current plan to send the colonists down should be pushed back until Delta Squad is able to meet with the king of the nation of whom we were planning to settle within his territory. When Delta Squad does arrive, I'll present myself in a video call on the tablet the squad has so I can ask the king's permission and further establish diplomatic relations with his country."

"I understand. And about the other outpost squad's, I've only received reports of them interacting with the natives of Orgon-4c and no other incidents have occurred."

"That's good to hear. I don't want any of our outpost squads to cause any misunderstandings. And for how we'll address the planet from now on, I'll like everyone to call it Nenoria from now on. The reports from Delta Squad confirmed what the native inhabitants call their world."

"I'll pass the word down. It seems you've taken an interest in Delta Squad. I know your daughter is in it but it seems there's more to it."

"Just when I thought this was going to be a normal colonizing operation, I brought (used her powers as a politician to get her daughter assigned near her so she can keep an eye on her) my daughter along thinking it would be a great idea and now she's on the most important diplomatic mission in space history, sigh." Senator Cowan's maternal instincts kicked in upon the mention of her daughter. She's what you call an overprotective parent. She realizes she leaked some of her 'other side' out and returns back to her composed self. "Other than that, cough, their guide is a half-fairy who can use magic and the other is a female knight. I must assume their squad leader must be prepared to handle more responsibilities than what he already has."

"I see we both have our curiosity focused on one man. The report I received from his second-in-command was the first report that made me spit out my coffee when I first read it." The General continues to list out what he remembered reading. "His rambo stunt was what made me caught off guard. After this, I took a look at his profile. He seemed to have a somewhat relaxed attitude while conducting himself in active duty from what I've read but when he's in the thick of it, he seems to turn to an entirely different man. He was willing to put his life at risk for people who are from another planet. Now those kinds of soldiers are rare these days."

"I can agree with that General, what was his name again?"

"Sergeant Xander Chain." The General replies. The two continued discussing other matters regarding the fleet and other main priorities. One of them included the response from Earth when she reported the situation.

A general assembly was held with the other senators from the 1st generation colonies and those from Earth that gathered to hear her report. They were stunned to hear there was alien life on another planet and to cause more confusion and suspicion, the aliens look very similar to them and from what she could gather, it seemed that the entirety of the world seemed to have things they thought were fantasy. A mere fiction from human imagination but the recording of Gen's display of magic proved to them that magic existed on another planet.

There was a majority vote on withholding the information for the time being before the time was right to let the public know, so it wouldn't cause any chaos or confusion within the general public.

When the IFUA (Interplanetary Federation Union Army) and the IFUSF heard of her findings, they were willing to send out needed manpower to help with the 6th Colonist Fleet shortage. Spare regiments from the colonies and Earth and extra transport ships to carry more supplies.

With all there was to discuss, the conversation concluded between Senator Cowan and General Sherman.

--------------------

Chain and Kretschmer both drive their humvee's close to the attacked carriage.

"Amelia and Sophia!" Chain order's them over the squad channel, "provide cover fire for us. Aim your turrets at anyone with a weapon in their hands."

The humvees reach close enough and the rest disembark. Chain and Kretschmer get their rifles ready while Emeryn unsheaths her sword, ready to slay the bandits. Gen follows behind them ready to cast her magic as well.

"Bratatatata..." Amelia and Sophia begin shooting at the bandits. Bullets pierce through their light protections, each of them dropping dead by the second. It was like shooting fish in a barrel for those two.

The bandits were caught off guard with the two metal beasts suddenly appearing out of nowhere and began shooting invisible arrows at monstrous speeds at them. Disregarding the lightly armoured garments they wore. As they noticed they were losing more of their fellow bandit men by the second, they began to flee back into the forest to take cover.

"Cease fire!" Both Amelia and Sophia stopped shooting after Chain ordered them to. Bullet casings lay around them and the sound "tssssss..." noise of the turret cooled down after their relentless mowing.

Chain and Kretschmer point their gun's in each direction looking out for any surviving bandit left. Emeryn and Gen showed expressions of discomfort at the piles of some bodies. The bandits weren't able to put up a fight at all.

Fear ran at the back of Emeryn's head. Recalling when Chain used his rifle to rescue her Order from the demon ambush. She witnesses the potential destructiveness the IFU has within its arsenal. Compared to her, Gen wasn't prepared at all for what she was about to see.

Gen for the first time saw dead bodies in her entire life. When she saw one of the bandit's faces, which was beyond recognisable from the turret fire. She immediately barfed out this morning's breakfast.

"Blaargh"

The other three look back and notice Gen's pale face.

"This your first time seeing something like this?" Asks Kretschmer.

Gen nods with her hand over her mouth, trying to hold back more of her urge to vomit.

"You need me to escort you back to the humvee?"

"Gulp" Gen swallows back her vomit. "It is fine, there's no need to worry about me. I can do this." She looks at Kretschmer with a face of determination.

Kretschmer notices and the rest of them proceed.

"H-elp...me..." A faint voice calls out and the squad rushes to cry for help. When they find the source of the voice, Chain and Kretschmer saw a green creature about 3 feet tall laying on the ground covering a slash wound on its abdomen.

"Mr Gobo!" Gen calls out the injured creatures name and rushes to his aid. She then began to use a heal spell on the sword wound.

"Do you know him Gen?" Asks Chain.

"Yes, he's Gobo Do Loro, a merchant. I've bought some items from his store before." Answers Gen. The two soldiers unknowing stared at Gobo with curiosity and Gen notices. "Why are you two staring at him like that?"

"Oh sorry, we didn't mean to. This may sound rude for me to ask but what exactly...is he?" Chain tries to ask the question without offending Gobo.

"Don't you people have goblins from where you come from?" Emeryn asks.

" A goblin!" Both Chain and Kretschmer eyes are wide open as they say it aloud at the same time.

"From that response, it sounds like you don't."

"Hey!" Gobo manages to say a word as Gen is healing him, "isn't it rude to ignore an injured person as you say squander about him." Gobo says in an angry tone.

"Sorry, Mr Gobo." Chain apologizes.

The three of them guard Gobo in case any of the bandits come back. Gen's magic abilities yet again surprised the Chain and Kretschmer. That's so cool! Kretschmer said in his mind. The goblin regains the strength to stand up again and wipes the dirt off his clothes.

"Thank you a lot for that Gen, the next time you visit my shop, you'll get half the price of any of your purchases." Gobo thanks Gen and rewards her with a 'coupon'.

"All I did was heal your wound, Mr Gobo," she turns to point to the rest of Delta Squad, "these were the people who saved you, meet Delta squad and its leader, Sergeant Xander Chain and corporal Otto Kretschmer with the other two Private Sophia Hanson and Private Amelia Cowan ... And Emeryn."

"Hey!" Emeryn angrily shouts as her name was left out in the end.

Gobo looks up towards Kretschmer and Chain and stares at them for a few seconds. "How can I be so rude to my saviours earlier, apologies" he bows "just when I thought I was going to die, this goblin merchant thought all was lost and prayed to Nenoria for assistance. And so she did in the end. By the way, those are some weird magic staff's you are carrying. Were those spells I heard earlier cast by you two?"

Unkown to Gobo, the rifles Chain and Kretschmer were holding weren't magic staffs and they weren't mages. The gunfire he heard was from the two turrets on the humvees.

"They aren't magic staff's, they are called rifles. What you heard earlier was our turrets shooting at the bandits." Chain points at the two humvees. Amelia waves her hand in the air."

"Oh my, I see then. You people are very strange. Never have I heard of these rifles before or seen your two metal wagons before but I won't pry on my saviours." Gobo continues to look at the female knight. "Didn't you say your name was Emeryn?"

"It is," Emeryn replies.

"And are you perhaps that Emeryn Sacobrel, pronounces missing knight commander of the Order of Herleva?"

"Yes... Wait, missing?"

"It seems you didn't know." Gobo continues to explain that a notice was sent out to all the guilds and Orders throughout the Kingdom of Ustiria. Not many details were said about her disappearance and the only thing said was "THE PROUD KNIGHT COMMANDER OF THE ORDER OF HERLEVA, EMERYN SACOBREL, GAVE UP HER LIFE FOR THE KING AND IN RETURN SHE WAS KIDNAPPED BY BLACK DEMONS." One of Emeryn's subordinates that survived provided a depiction of what he saw. Its description was spread everywhere warning the citizens to warn the authorities if they saw it.

Incidentally, those demons that the knight saw was none other than Delta's squad LS4 armour battle armour. Chain thought he messed up big time, not only for his squad but the whole of the outpost squads. Shit! He said under his breath. Now every knight and adventurer in the kingdom is looking for what matches that description.

Without realising it, Gobo blinked a few times to confirm what he was seeing. The knight he thought was reported to have been kidnapped is standing in front of him and Xander and Kretschmer's armour looked like the drawing of the demon's skin shown on what he heard about.

"Well it looked like a kidnapping but it wasn't really." Yes Kretschmer, stop lying to yourself. No matter what everyone says, it was a kidnapping.

"And they left out the part of me when I was saved the king and the other knights. And were not demons!" Chain declared.

As Mr Gobo stood there unable to comprehend, his mind went to overload and fainted.

"Mr Gobo!" Gen runs to wake him up. Emeryn facepalmed herself in dismay at what had unfolded in front of her.
