Chapter 2 - Trouble

Climbing out of the car, she looked around to her surroundings. In front of her was a dark alley and not a single soul could be seen.

"Why do you have to stop here?" she stared at the car and a frustrated sigh left her.

It was around 9pm and instead of sitting at home after a long busy day, here she was, in the middle of nowhere sagging against the useless car which suddenly wasn't working.

Taking out her phone, she dialled a number. "Yes, girl?" a voice heard from the other side.

"Have you reached home?" she asked

"No, I'm just waiting for the taxi Why?"

"Your stupid car isn't working, so come and pick me now" hearing a yes from the person and sending her the location she ended the call and began to wait for her.

Suddenly feeling thirsty, she decided walking to a nearby grocery store. While walking she scanned her surroundings once again, the silence along the darkness was creeping her out. After every step she takes, the feeling of being followed was increasing. She was keeping looking back and forth for any signs of danger. 'If someone is actually following me, then they got a perfect chance to kill me because there's no one to witness. Oh God I don't want to die early'

Shaking her head at the horrible thoughts coming to her, she continued. When the store came to her sight, relief wash over her. Walking inside she saw a girl at the counter. The girl flashed a smile towards her asking what she needs. "A watter bottle please." she replied her while returning her the same smile. Fetching the bottle and mumbling a thank you she walked out from the store. When she turned to the corner of the store, her body collide with something big.

"Ouch! Watch where you going." she mumbled with closed eyes.

"You need to watch out too" a deep gruff voice spoke. She immediately looked up to see the person and her voice caught in her throat. The man was bulk in size , his face was void of any emotions. Hard red eyes staring at her in so much anger that she actually thought she was going to die then and there. She noticed a black shining looking object in his hand. She doesn't need to look twice to know that it was a gun. Fear gripped her 'Was he following me? Do he wants kill me? But I never did something to him.' His face was hard and there was a cut under his eyes. Making him look scary. 'God please what's happening who is he? Why is he looking at me like that?' Suddenly she saw his eyes leaving hers and settled on something behind her. His face changed, she saw a glint of fear in them. But the guy was quick to mask it. Curiosity got the best of her. She wanted to look over her back and see whom is he looking at. When she was about to turn her head. The man spoke again. "You got lucky today , he doesn't want anything happen to you." She looked at him confused. "Wait, what? Who—"

"Mia!"

Before she could respond, Someone called her name. She turned to see Ava standing against the taxi motioning her to come. Strange there was no one except Ava and the taxi driver ofcourse. Then whom he was staring at and who is `heʼ.

When she turned her head back to see the man, he was nowhere in sight. A frown settle on her face. 'weird he was just here. Maybe he ran away when he saw Ava and got afraid to be caught.' She released a breath of relief. And tried to adjust whatever happened to her a minute ago. 'Indeed i got lucky today, I'm never this happy to see you before Ava.' She mumbled to herself as she went towards the vehicle. While calming her beating heart she again looked back and forth to see if the man was following her or not. When she doesn't see anything her shoulders relaxed. A shudder passed her spine as she remembered seeing a gun in his hand. 'If it wasn't for Ava, he would have shot me to death.' Sighing she opened the taxi door and went in. But what she doesn't noticed was a black shining car hiding in the dark.

"I'm sorry I forgot to tell you that the car needs some repairing" Ava told her.

"Oh it's ok, now hurry up we are getting late Rebecca must be worrying."

" I can't wait to be in my bed too. Well what were you doing standing there?"

"Just someone was passing by and we collided nothing else" Mia said.

"He was a man?."

"Yes..." Mia looked at her. She doesn't mean to lie but she doesn't want to worry her either by telling her the whole thing.

"Don't tell me he was handsome too." Ava looked at her with a smile.

"Only if you know how much handsome he was." Mia scoffed as she remembered his scary face.

"Hey wait what about your car?" Mia asked changing the topic.

"I called the mechanic, he will take care of it"

"I hope my car is repaired too or in the morning I have to take a taxi." Mia said.

They climb out of the taxi and turned towards their houses. Ava is Mia's bestfriend and her neighbor too. Three months ago when Mia bought this house, she met Ava as her neighbor who helped her settle down in the new place. And just like that from friends they become best friends. Ava lives here alone as she got a job here. But her family lives in another city. She tried to convince her mother and grandmother who happens to be her only family, to shift with her here in LA. But they denied her. Because they didn't want to leave their house as they have memories of her late father and grandfather in the house.

"Good night love!" Mia shouted at Ava who was about to enter in the house. In return she winked at her with a smile.

Mia made her way in her medium sized beautiful house. Entering in, a mouth watering aroma hit her.

"Don't tell me you are making cup cakes at this hour, Rebecca" said Mia locking the house door.Throwing her purse on the couch she went inside the kitchen. "Yes! they are ready you want to taste them?" asked her sister smiling sheepishly at her. Taking a cupcake Mia took a bite "Mmhhh they are good." She looked at her sister who was packing them in a box. "Well care to share why are you late today sis?" Mia stuffed another cupcake in her mouth. " Well Ava's car stopped working in the middle of nowhere and then she came to pick me."

"Dinner is in the fridge, I'm going to Ava house to give her some." saying that Rebecca ran out of the house with a box of cupcakes.

'This girl...' mumbling she went into her room.

As she entered in, the first thing she saw was her mother's picture hanging on the wall behind her bed. Her face turned into a painful expression. "These five months without you by our side were really hard. But I'm trying mom, I'm trying like how I promised you. I'm taking care of both of us. She doesn't trouble me either mom. She's a good girl. Tomorrow she is going to start her high school too."

"You know what hurts the most mom? she always asks about him. And I don't know how to answer. Sometimes she cries so much saying that she is now an orphan. She says, she doesn't even got a chance to meet her father as he died before she could come to this world. And now her mother left her too. I can't see her like that mom. But I'll fulfill my duties as a good sister. I'll take care of her just like you took care of me all alone. I miss you mom." A tear drop from her eyes. As she stared at the lady in the picture.

Wiping the single tear that ran out on cheek with the back of her hands Mia went towards the bathroom. After showering and wearing her clothes. She takes her lead towards the kitchen. Taking out things from the fridge. She putted them in the microwave. Sitting on the chair she began to eat. 'God I didn't know I was that hungry' Eating dinner she began to do her dishes. After that she went out of the kitchen and headed straight towards the living room. Grabbing her laptop she sat down on the couch with the device on her laps. Doing some unfinished work assigned to her. She heard the main door opening and closing, giving her the cue that Rebecca returned.

After twenty minutes later, she completed her work. A yawned slipped from her. As she stretched her arms. Standing up Mia placed the laptop on the table and began to walk towards her room before checking her sisters room who was sleep peacefully. She double checked the main house door. Returning back in the room. She was just going to lay down on the bed. When suddenly her phone buzzed making her stop in her track. 'Who would text me this late.' She took it out from her dress pocket. It was an unknown number. A frown settle on her face after reading it.

'Trouble is coming.' Someone must have send it to a wrong number. She wants to believe that maybe someone sent it mistakenly to her. But flashes of what happened earlier were not helping. To inspect it Mia called the number. But it went straight to voice mail. Sighing she dropped it on the night stand. And lay on the bed, ready to sleep.
