Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Late Night Chat

Around 0100 that night, Conner snuck out through his window before heading to the driveway and carrying his Impala up the street. Much easier for a teenager to sneak out of his house when he can fly and use his super strength to get his car away from the house silently.

Once he was up the street, Conner got in the car and began making his way to the same building that he dropped Eve and Caitlin off at earlier. When he pulled up, he sent Caitlin a text saying that he was there. But even after waiting 15 minutes, she still hadn't replied or left the building.

Figuring she was on another mission or in the middle of a fight, Conner took the keys out of the car and walked into the building. He used the backup card Caitlin had given him a few months ago to get inside.

As he got in the elevator, Conner could feel several shockwaves shake the elevator. Conner made the Superman pose and flew through the roof of the elevator to the higher level. He ignored all the bullets and small missiles Robot had set up as a defensive measure as he made his way up the elevator shaft.

When he got to the top, Conner pried open the magnetically locked doors to see the chaos that was occurring in the room.

A sickly, green man with lizard-like features was battling against Caitlin and a set of Asian quintuplets...sextuplets. On the other side of the room, a gorilla with cybernetic parts was rampaging while a Robot, Eve, and a man in orange and yellow battled against it.

Both the girls were members of the Teen Team. They went by the Codenames Gen13 and Atom Eve. The rest of the teammates were Dupli-Kate, Rex-Plode, and Robot. Not the most creative teammates one can ask for.

As for the two they were battling, Conner recognized them but was very confused why both of them were battling the Teen Team. The reptilian man was the evil clone of a famous hero called Dark Dragon. The gorilla was the enemy of Spawn named Cy-Gor.

While both were in the same universe as Invincible, they belonged to different rogue galleries. Two villains that would normally never interact were attacking the base of others that they would never interact with. One of them was from Chicago while the other operated in another Hell.

Not caring about why this was happening, Conner let out a breath of relief. Even though these two were strong, the team could handle them if they focused enough.

And what he thought rang true. Not even 5 minutes later, the group had subdued both the villains. Dark Dragon and Cy-Gor lay on the floor covered in wounds that were rapidly healing and were tied up.

[Conner. How did you get up? I shut down the elevator 5.2 minutes ago and turned on the security... oh. It seems that you have powers and were able to break through our security that way. I will be sure to make the necessary improvements later.] Robot said as he noticed Conner standing on the side.

The others also noticed that Conner was there. Caitlin was about to walk over and give him a hug when she heard what Robot said. She then shot Conner a look that held a million questions in her eyes.

"Um, I'll explain on the way back," he said in hopes of prolonging the fight they were soon to have.

'Hopefully, she will be tired and fall asleep on the drive back.'

Caitlin nodded at that, agreeing to speak later on.

"Are we needed here Robot? Cause it is late and I have school in the morning," Eve asked the bronze, robotic man.

[You all are free to go. My drones will have this place back in order by the morning and Cecil will soon be coming to pick these two up.]

"Well, that's great. I was not planning on cleaning up a single thing," Rex said before walking over and giving Eve a deep kiss. "Night, babe. Later, losers. I need my beauty sleep."

The others saw Rex walk towards the undamaged parts of the building where the dorms were located before he disappeared around the corner. Kate followed after him. Robot, Kate, and Rex all lived in the base while Caitlin and Eve stayed with their families most of the time.

Conner and the girls left the building a few minutes later so they did not see Cecil pull up. Neither did they want to. None of the three particularly liked Cecil. He always had a secret agenda in mind.

When they got to the car, Eve hopped in the back while Caitlin took the shotgun seat. Conner got in the driver's seat and began to slowly drive home. He turned on one of Caitlin's favorite podcasts as they traveled.

He hoped it would distract her from the conversation she wanted to have and it did. She was lured into the superhero popularity podcast and forgot all about what she wanted to grill him on. But sadly for Conner, Eve had seen through his trick.

"So... Conner you have powers?" Eve asked with an evil gleam in her eyes

Conner turned around and shot Eve a look that said 'Damn you, Eve. I thought we were supposed to be friends.'

She returned a look that said 'If you didn't try to trick her, I would have let it go. But now you need to pay for your mistake.'

With Eve's reminder, the sleepiness and interest in the podcast had vanished. Caitlin's eyes bore into Conner's skull from the side. Although she did not say anything, Conner knew that she was expecting answers.

"Um, yeah. I have powers. My dad is an alien so I got them from him," Conner said trying to glide past the topic.

Sadly for him, the girls, like most women, were not so easy to satisfy from a half-hearted performance.

"Your dad's an alien?"

"How long have you had your powers?"

Conner knew he was in for a long drive. Over the course of the next 30 minutes, he was interrogated, tortured, and broken down on a spiritual level. When they finally arrived at Eve's house, the pain was mostly over.

"Thanks for the ride, Conner. See you in the morning, Caitlin," Eve said as waved bye to the pair.

Conner pulled into the driveway on the other side of the street. Just as he was about to get out, Caitlin stopped him.

"You don't seriously think you are staying, do you? You lied to me for 4 months!" she exclaimed.

"You lied to me when we first started dating. You took 5 months before you told me you were a superhero," Conner tied to counter.

"Don't even try to pull that. That was when we first started dating. This was after a year and a half of us dating. Two very different things. We needed time to build up trust. I figured that by now, you would have trusted me with something as major as you getting superpowers or you being an alien."

Conner wanted to argue but he knew he couldn't. Everything she said was correct. He had screwed up and needed to pay the price for it.

"You're right. I was in the wrong. I should have told you. I'm sorry," Conner said sincerely.

Not expecting him to admit it so easily, Caitlin was caught off guard. Once she recovered, she gave Conner a small peck on the cheek.

"That's better. Since this is honesty time, anything else you wanna get off your chest? I promise, I won't get mad," Caitlin said with a smile on her face.

Knowing what she had just said was a lie but figuring if he held onto the secret any longer it would be bad for him, Conner decided to open up about his status in HOMRA.

"Well you know about HOMRA, right? I'm sorta the..."

Long story short, Eve woke up the next morning with the black door on an Impala in her lawn.

By the time Conner got home, he was exhausted. Just as he sat his car in the same part of the driveway from earlier, he saw his brother jumping out of his bedroom window for a late-night flight.

Not caring much about Mark's soon-to-be crash into the ground, Conner flew back into his room to get a good night's sleep. His next few days would be extra rough with Caitlin so he had to get enough rest to deal with the situation properly.
