Conner's alarm clock went off at 6 in the morning. But after being out so late, he had only gotten about 4 hours of sleep. Seeing that it was so early in the morning, Conner threw the clock out of his window. Luckily, he kept it open from the night before so the only things that ended up breaking that morning were the alarm clock and a branch of a tree.
A couple of minutes after the alarm clock incident, Nolan walked into the room. Seeing his son was still in bed, Nolan flipped the mattress and sent Conner sprawling on the floor.
"Time to get up, kiddo," Nolan said before shaking his head. "I told you and your brother to get plenty of rest but you can't even get out of bed and he has bags under his eyes."
Conner threw his blankets off of him before reluctantly getting up and getting changed. He put on a blue tracksuit and shoes before walking down the stairs. Nolan and Mark were already waiting for him.
When Conner saw the bags under Mark's eyes, he could not help but laugh out loud at his brother's sorry appearance.
"What are you, a kid? So excited for the field trip the next day that you stayed up all night?"
Mark growled at his brother but did not respond. He knew that trying to argue with Conner was the same as trying to stay dry in a hurricane using an umbrella that does in a drink.
The trio walked out the backdoor before they took for the air. While Nolan was teaching Mark the basics, Conner followed from behind with ease. Even though he didn't use his powers often, he practiced them enough that he had more than enough control that could qualify him as skilled.
The flying lessons went on for an hour and Mark crashed 7 times before they flew back towards the house. Mark and Conner went up the stairs and showered before coming back down to join their parents at the table.
Throughout the meal, Conner kept looking at his phone. Debbie noticed this and decided to ask him about it since she rarely saw her son so concerned.
"What's wrong, honey? You have been looking at your phone all morning."
"Caitlin is mad at me. I deserve it. And all my texts trying to get her to talk to me have been ignored," Conner replied honestly
"Oh. What's she upset about?"
"That I didn't tell her about my powers among other things. When I told her last night, she nearly kicked my ass."
"Hmm. You are definitely in the wrong. But Caitlin is a sweet girl. Give her some time. I'm sure it will work out in the end."
Conner nodded absentmindedly and ate the rest of breakfast with his head in the clouds. When it was time to go, Conner and Mark walked outside to his car. That was when Mark noticed one of his doors was missing.
"Whoa! What happened here? You get pissed off about the girlfriend situation and end up throwing your door somewhere?" Mark asked. It was finally his turn to bully his brother so he was not going to miss an opportunity.
Conner shot him a glance before he got in the car and drove off.
"Fly to school or get a ride from William. I gotta pick up my girlfriend."
When Conner arrived at Caitlin and Eve's neighborhood, the duo was sitting on Eve's doorstep. One of them looked very amused and the other one looked very angry still.
Conner got out of the car and retrieved the door that had been taken off the night before. He held it where it had been removed before looking over to Eve.
"A little help, please."
Eve's eyes began to glow as did the hinges of the door before they connected once again. Once the car was repaired, the girls got into the backseat while Conner acted as their chauffeur. As he was driving the three of them to school, Conner got a text from Eve.
[ I calmed her down a bit but if you want to keep your girlfriend, the rest is up to you.]
Coner thanked Eve a thousand times in his head. When they pulled into the school, Conner locked the door right after Eve opened hers. Eve slammed the door shut and Conner locked that door as well.
Caitlin looked shocked at first then was almost spewing fire from her eyes as she stared at her best friend that had betrayed her.
"I will destroy you!"
"At least hear him out, Caitlin. I hope you live through this, Conner," Eve said before making her way into the school.
Conner hopped in the backseat and sat next to the wildcat. Caitlin was vigilant and looked as if she was looking at her mortal enemy.
"I'm sorry, Cait," Conner said for the 100th time in the past 12 hours.
"You lied. You didn't trust me. You run an international mercenary group!" Caitlin said again
"I know. But no one else knows, Caitlin. Only you do. My own family didn't even find out about my powers until last night. They have no idea that I am the Red King."
Caitlin calmed down slightly when she heard his confession. While she still looked defensive, she was also willing to hear him out now.
"I can't promise that I will never keep a secret from you again. But I swear that I will always confess to you before anyone else if I do. We both know I'm a dumbass and that I would be lost without you. Please forgive me this one time and I can promise you that you will never regret it."
Caitlin looked at him skeptically before she sighed and kissed Conner on his cheek. Not expecting her to actually forgive him so fast, Conner was unable to react.
"If you said anything like, 'I will never keep a secret from you again,' I would have killed you and dumped your ass. Not in that order."
"I would expect nothing less from you," Conner replied
The pair spent the next few minutes 'making up' in the car until Eve was knocking on the window. Conner rolled it down and revealed that both of them were very disheveled but their clothes seemed to have never been off.
"Not to interrupt your makeout session but classes start in a couple of minutes. You both might want to hurry up," Eve said while raising her eyebrow
The pair hurried to adjust their clothes as they got out of their cars and made their way to the school building. After separating from the pair and going toward his homeroom, Conner got a text on his phone.
[6 of them will most likely rebel. Good chance that all those under will follow as well. How do you want to handle this?]
Conner chuckled when he read the message before replying.
[Start secretly gaining control of their accounts and properties but let them rally themselves. Sometimes a king has to remind fools why he is king.]
Conner put his phone away and sat through class. Now that everything was happening all a once, it was time to put the last of his plans in order.
