Chapter 3 - Mysterious Beauty

A Day In The Fated Future

Location - Unknown

(???'s POV)

The very first thing I planned to do after I regained my strength was to break free from this woman's embrace and assess the situation from a safe location.

However, unfortunately, human anatomy does not work like that. Although it was definitely a positive step forward, I still had a long way to go until I was able to use my body at full force.

If health class taught me anything, simply "getting back" your strength spontaneously, (even with the use of magic) does not always equate to achieving full optimal capacity.

I think the term I'm looking for in this particular situation is "atrophy", a topic that I randomly found interesting.

Regardless, the point still stands. Until I get some proper physical rehabilitation going, all I can do right now is open my eyes and probably twitch about at most.

Trying to gain better awareness of my surroundings first, I start with opening my eyes. And, as if sensing my awakening, I could feel the woman slowly pulling away from me. The last thing I felt before we seperated was a slight "pop" that happened when my lips were suddenly exposed to the air around us.

"Phwah~" The woman moans in satisfaction.

As much as I appreciated her giving me my personal space, I don't know how I feel about our lips parting…

No, pay attention you fool.

What do you see right now?

When I opened my eyes, my area of vision was still pretty limited. The surrounding light that came from what I assume to be lamp fixtures had only messed with my haziness.

Dealing with a mixture of light, darkness, and a general lack of information, it was too chaotic for me to focus on one particular thing. I had to blink several times before I could even see, let alone get accustomed to my new environment.

When I tried focusing my sight on the beauty directly in front of me, I could only see her lips moving. Since our faces were right in front of each other, it was pretty obvious that she was talking to me.

"Are you awake yet? You know it's not healthy to be oversleeping~" The woman asked.

Oh god, was she asking me a question?

Does that mean I need to respond to her?

I mean I should but my main problem was I still have no clue who I'm dealing with. Whether I talked or not could potentially make or break this situation for me.

As difficult as it was, I made sure not to make any careless gestures. The first thing I needed to do is run a list of all the known factors and then weigh out the consequences of each before deciding the best course of action.

The easiest one I could come up with was to simply pretend to be asleep or play dead until the moment she gives up on me and leaves. Of course this is a little too idealistic considering how this woman went through all this effort to kiss me in my sleep.

But then I realized I already made a critical mistake.

Pretending to be asleep or playing dead wouldn't even work because my eyes were already open and had blinked on multiple occasions.

Not to mention the two of us already made eye contact with each other. So that's just fucking great…

Alright, I guess this means I have no other choice but to confront her head on. Time for a high risk yet low return option. Overplaying your role as the victim.

"W-who are you!? Where am I!? Why am I her–!?" I eventually asked her, though I was unable to hold back the frantic crack in my voice.

But before I could realize it, the woman placed a finger on my lips to silence me.

"Shh, I understand you have a lot of questions but you mustn't place any more strain on yourself. Not unless you want to see your wife angry~"

That was the second time she said something weird to me. First, she referred to me as "Darling",and now she's calling herself my "wife"?

Does that mean we're a married couple?

No, as simple as it may sound, those words don't seem right. Mostly because I have no recollection of having anybody resembling a lover.

Then again, I have no recollection on anything in general….

"I'm sorry but you're not my—"

All of a sudden, I stopped talking halfway, hoping to save myself from a certain possibility.

"Not what?" She asked in return, curious as to why my sentence fell flat.

"Nevermind. Please forget I said anything."

As I retracted my earlier statement, I took the time to observe the woman for a second time.

Before I got ahead of myself, there was something I needed to double check before I made any baseless claims. For all I could know, this woman could be telling me the truth and that the two of us were indeed married. Because if that is the case, then the main problem would be my memory loss.

It was then I randomly recalled another piece of helpful advice.

Now I'm not saying that all instances are the same, but I have heard that although amnesia can affect the brain with chronic memory loss, there may be rare occasions in which it doesn't affect the subconsciousness as much as the physical mind.

In other words, it can somewhat be alleviated, if not, outright cured, through intense cases of familiarity or sparks of emotions. Which brings me to my main point.

If this woman claims that we are a married couple and she is right, then wouldn't that mean we would atleast have several years worth of emotional experience with each other?

Because if that's the case and our love life was successful and wasn't met with any disturbances, then wouldn't that mean I should be able to atleast recognize something by simply looking at her?

I know it sounded like a bit of a stretch, but the possibility did exist and this ray of hope would help me understand my situation better.

Unfortunately, little did I know at the time, trying to do so would only make my situation alot more complicated.
