The worst thing is, I'm not able to look up who is in front of us, which makes it more suspicious and scary. My head doesn't turn any side.
"I have delivered as I promised, sire", Simon boldly says, but I can feel the quiver in his voice.
All of a sudden, we hear a dangerous growl, which shooks the entire forest. It's coming from the person right in front of us. The quietness following that growl is more intense than before, and I'm dying to see who's in front of us. Is it Simon's clan leader? One thing is for sure, they are planning to kill me. But, why?
I desperately wish for Margaret to save me, at least after she finds I'm missing from the house. We were happy just an hour ago, when did my story turn into horror?
"Rise!", the voice commands, and we both get up in unison.
Still, my head is down because of whatever Simom is doing to me. My body is a block of ice because of the freezing winter. I'm only wearing my night slippers, so I slowly rub one foot above the other to spread some heat through the legs.
That's when I realize, that I'm not bound anymore. I lift my head and peep through my eyelashes to see who's in the front.
I'm shocked to my very core. That is a full grown wolf!
And, the wolf just spoke. I don't understand if I'm going crazy or this is all really happening! The wolf is gigantic and way too taller than me. Dirty brown fur covers its entire body with various painful scars everywhere. His big bushy tail swish loudly, sweeping the dirt every time it comes in contact with the ground.
Apart from all his other scars, the scar which is most prominent and scary, is the one running across his eyes through his cheeks. That is his glass eye.
I stand frozen to the spot, mostly because I'm literally freezing to death in this weather, and partly because I'm still in shock looking at the majestic creature in front of me. He turns his attention from Simon and with his one good eye, catches me staring at him. He snarls viciously, and every nerve in my body comes to attention.
I'm now completely out of trance. So, I swiftly gather myself together and start sprinting.
My life literally depends on it. The heavy wind blows across my face and all the dry twigs and leaves rustle under my feet, but I don't care about anything. I continue running. They might catch me sooner or later, but I should at least try my best. I'm not ready to die yet.
I can't properly see what's in front of me, but I can't afford to check it out. At least, I wish my phone was with me, but I left it at home. Shit!
I hear a big whoosh behind me and pick up my pace. They're coming! I don't know if it's Simon or the wolf but somebody is coming.
I should run the fuck out of here. I don't know the destination, so I go the way the woods bend. It's possible that I'm running deeper into the forest, but anywhere is better than that big brown wolf.
Suddenly, my ankles skid by something, and I fall face first into the dirt. That's when I realize that a root extended from a tree had lodged itself in my knee somehow. My knee is bent and hot blood is oozing out of it. I touch my knee, to remove the root, but it's buried so deep inside and I scream in pain.
Shit!
With no time to react, I try pushing my useless lump body from the ground and continue moving forward. But, I'm not able to move myself as the pain is numbing my nervous system. This is bad!
And, the wolf has found me!
He paces towards me and I wiggle back in fear with no escape.
He takes slow, menacing steps towards me like a predator hunting for his prey.
Oh god!
I move back as far as I can, but with one jump, he is completely onto me and has me pinned under him.
His weight is too much for me to bear. I fight, try pushing him off, but no matter the effort, nothing happens.
He doesn't budge an inch!
He presses one of his paws on my chest very hard and I cough. Blood stars flowing out of my chest right where he's digging with his claw. My nightgown is smeared with blood and I'm struggling to breathe.
Tears flood my eyes, making it difficult to see. So, this is how my end is going to be. Killed by a wolf wolf in the middle of a forest where nobody even knows about my death. I finally give up! My nerves are shutting down slowly and one by one my organs are giving up fighting too.
I choke on my blood with the amount of pressure he's applying to my chest.
His eyes glint with victory. I don't want to die is my sole thought at the moment.
Please! someone help me!
I hold out a little longer but I feel the breath draining from my body quickly.
I'm on the verge of losing consciousness when suddenly, something strikes towards the wolf and he falls off of me. I'm taken aback by surprise, but when I lift my head to see what's happening, I don't find anything in the darkness.
Now, there are no wolves, humans or Simon in the vicinity, and I'm lying alone in a pool of blood. I hold my punctured heart which will give out any moment. The eerie silence prevails again over the calamity.
I admire the moon shining beautifully in the sky above.
I smile through the pain and, slowly loose consciousness.
