It did not bother Verum that his name was now known to many people, for it had always been like that, both previously and now as well. However, he did not foresee his encounter with 'her'.
It started when he went back into the lobby, sometime after summoning Xunsu, his intention was to look through the people selling to see if he could find any interesting things, like herbs or unknown items. He had grown fond of research, and although he was not very good at it, it did not stop him from trying. Although this trip, went quite a bit different than what he expected.
He was spotted as soon as he stepped in, a what followed was quite a headache for him. Everywhere he looked there were people swarming him, and although he just phased through them, the noise they caused still annoyed him to no end. It reached the point where he just went into the system settings and made himself vanish from all their eyes. It gave him a few minutes of calm as he looked through the market, but it broke when a message arrived.
[Hey! Heard your in the lobby! Come to the arena, got someone to introduce to you]
"Tsk, really?" Verum clucked his tongue and walked to the arena as he set the settings to friends only.
He found Yama easily enough, kind of hard not to when he is the only person he could see, and walked up to him. "What do you want?" He grumbled, a tad bit dissatisfied.
"You're here! Good! I want you to meet another top ranker, her name is 'Veiled occult '."
"And why, exactly, should I bother?"
"C'mon, I'm sure that you two will find something in common." Yama pleaded.
"Like what?" Verum asked.
"Magic!" Yama exclaimed with fervor. "Both of you are extremely good magic users. I feel like the two of you would be able to talk with each other about topics related to it."
"Sheesh, you are not going to leave me alone are you? Where is this person?"
Yama grinned, "Right this way, come on!"
A minute later,
"Yama... this is a battle room." Verum said with apparent exasperation in his voice.
"Yes?"
"Never mind." Verum sighed and entered the room.
"So you're finally here huh?" A deep voice sounded behind him, and Verum turned to take a look at the person speaking.
Verum could not help but massage his forehead when he saw the person speaking, and immediately turned back around.
"Huu, yeah I'm done, see you later."
"Eh? Wait!" The voice had changed from deep, to a much higher tone.
"If you want me to wait, show that you are worthy of my time!" Verum whipped around and threw a fireball right at her, while preparing another one as well.
She reacted almost instantaneously, throwing up a barrier to block the first one, and threw an earth spike at the second one.
"Good reflexes, but not enough!" Verum remarked as he turned his palm upwards and a fire lit above it. "This is my new spell, I call it blaze."
All of a sudden, his opponent burst into flames, and a resounding screech came from her.
Verum did not show mercy, and in one quick motion, drew his sword and decapitated her instantly.
[You have won the match!] The system sounded, but Verum did not pay attention to it. He instead turned to Yama. "You said that she would be good at magic, and that she was a top ranker."
Yama had a helpless smile on his face. "Brother, she is a good magic user, its just that... you didn't give her a chance to use her magic."
"She should have seen it coming."
"You all right? It seems like you are in a bad mood today. But never mind, look she's here now!" Yama pointed towards the newcomer.
"Greetings, my name is 'Veiled occult', It was nice meeting you." She said with slight venom in her voice.
Verum just stared at her for a moment.
"If you are going to be a B**** about losing, then you shouldn't have challenged me in the first place." Verum's words gave a little jolt to both Yama and Veil.
"Bro, you should take a rest, you are not in your right state of mind right now." Yama spoke, to which Verum stared at him for some time, making him feel a tad bit uncomfortable, before nodding his head.
[You have received a friend request from 'Verum Apeiros Voidborn'!] Veil looked at the message that popped up in front of her, then smiled and accepted it.
[The castle lord 'Veiled occult' is now your ally!] Verum gave a glance to the message, then disappeared.
"Well that was a good first meeting." She said, looking at Yama.
"I told you that he did not like to fool around, but you did just that." Yama smiled, then frowned. "But it isn't like him to be like that, he is usually easy going, even if he is irritated, did something happen to him?"
"Who knows? But I guess so, who in their right minds would light a woman on fire within a minute of meeting her?"
"No, that wouldn't matter, even though I've only been with him for a short while, I know that he does not care much about gender, If you cross him, you get hurt. He treats almost every one as equally as he could, if he does not know about them at least, which means that even if you were a guy, you would have still been lit on fire."
"Tch, what's so good about him anyway?" She grumbled, And Yama looked at her as a smirk appeared on his face.
"Still mad that he took your position as best magic user? Don't be surprised, while is does not care much for titles, he did not get it because of dungeon raids like you."
"Huh? Then how did he take it from me?" Veil questioned.
"The man is a researcher, he is deeply interested in magic, it wouldn't surprise me if he managed to create a few spells that work with known science, like that blaze spell for example."
"Oh really? Then I should get back to my own magic research then. See you later." She said, and vanished as well.
