'Condiments, map, and a guidebook.'
'I'm poor now.'
Verum sighed as he looked at the panel showing his current amount of money.
[1 silver 55 copper]
'I hope it's worth it, but I'll look at it later, for now, food first.'
While walking, he pulled up the system map of his castle to look for the kitchen, which he was looking for, but got distracted by the shop.
According to the map, it was on the upper floor, so he headed there.
He also saw a room labeled larder next to it.
'Alright, let's see what we have here.'
Verum expectantly opened the door but was disappointed as he did not see the utensils he was hoping for. There were some cauldrons, bowls, pots and pans, and a few barrels on the side.
In a wooden rack were some wooden spoons, as well as well as spits of various sizes.
There were 4 barrels, each of them were 1 meter tall and half a meter wide.
He opened the barrels one by one to see what was inside them.
'Salt, Salt, Sugar, and Oil.'
'Okay now to check the larder.'
Verum did not have any hopes for the larder, but he was surprised to see some bags inside.
'Flour and rice, something to cook and eat, finally!' He exclaimed silently, for he no longer needed to eat only meat.
There was only one problem now.
He had no idea on how to cook meat on a wood fire.
*****
'I need to learn everything they know.'
Turns out, all summoned units have what is termed by the system as, 'Basic survival skills', It includes first aid, edible plants, skinning animals, and how to cook an edible meal.
The other good news was that his multiplier ability worked, so no worries for food.
Anyway, they were quite useful abilities for surviving, which was Verum was staring at every move his warriors were making, that is cooking over a wood fire.
And although it wasn't anything luxurious, it was still a proper edible meal, and right now it was he wanted.
Pieces of cooked meat sprinkled with salt along with flatbread, though bland, was enough for now.
When they had finished eating, Verum ordered his dwarves to go out and gather wood and anything that might be useful, sending 10 of his warriors along with them for escort and ordered them to return after 2 hours.
The mages, he sent on along with them to get combat experience, and the remaining 5 soldiers, he started training.
First he trained them in evasion and counter-attack, then in recovery and balance, and then offence.
After all that he had them attack him, and armed with their new knowledge and because he wasn't fighting back, they managed to hit him 3 times in total.
Considering that Verum was an expert in combat, they did pretty well which is why he started demonstrating magic for them to learn and integrate into their combat skills.
He showed them fire ball, ice spike, cold shield, and had just finished showing them enhance when the others returned. With a whole lot of logs and some wolf corpses.
"It's been 2 hours? Man, time does fly when your busy, huh. Anyway put the wood and skinned corpses you gathered in the warehouse. If you found anything else show me."
2 Dwarves walked up to him. "We found this herbs sir, they might have some use." The first one said, he was holding a fistful of herbs with dark blue leaves. Verum took the herbs and used appraisal.
[Lower mana herb]
[A herb that has absorbed small amounts of mana]
[Eating recovers 20 MP]
'Mana herb? Should be something in guidebook about this. I'll look it up later.'
"It is useful, put them in the warehouse for now."
The other dwarf was holding some coins that had dropped from the wolves.
"Thank you."
[Money+10 copper coins]
"Alright, the five of you," Verum gestured to the 5 he had trained. "Take a 5 minute break, and then teach the others what I have taught, when you're done, go to sleep in the barracks, tomorrow we will start exploring the forest, And I need you to be well rested. Dismissed."
With those words, he walked away.
*****
'I still have time, I should explore the castle.'
Verum realized that he did not know his way around the castle, so he decided to look around.
The courtyard had a warehouse, training hall, well, the summoning altar, as well as two doors he had not gone in yet, a big one that clearly led to the throne room, and a normal one next to stairs that led up to the upper floor.
The room he entered could not be called a room, it was more like a long, wide, hallway with beds lined neatly along the walls. This was the barracks. The beds only had a pillow and a thin sheet for a blanket. No mattress, just hard wood, not comfortable, and too cold in the winter.
There were a few slits in the walls, high near the ceiling, and windowless as well. Other than that, there was nothing else inside.
Observing this, Verum took a look at the upgrade cost of the barracks.
[Barracks upgrade: 1 silver, 10 wood, 10 stone, 20 leather]
'Without my 'little' subtraction, this would have been 5, 50, 50, and a 100. Damn that's expensive.'
'Leather should be obtained from the skins, wood and stone can be collected, but money will take some time, however, I feel it will be worth it.'
Next he headed to the big door in the middle, and with a little effort, opened it.
The hall had nothing inside except for a stone seat, and some torches mounted on the walls. The 'Throne' was poorly made, with some uneven and protruding parts that made it a bit uncomfortable to sit on.
Verum did not bother going in, he just closed the door and went upstairs.
The hallway was 3 meters wide and forming a 'T' with the stairs, going right left lead to the kitchen and larder, so he went left this time.
The first doorway he came across had no door and stairs leading up, so he ignored it, the second one, however, did have a door, and opening it, a table, some chairs, and a few bookshelves that had only two books in them.
'Library? What for?' He was confused, and decided to return later.
The next door opened to a bedroom, much better than the barracks, with a blanket, extra pillows and whatnot. There was also a window that he could open and close whenever he wished, along with a table and chair.
'This is the master bedroom? Seems nice.'
Continuing on, there was a bathroom next to the bedroom which, surprisingly, had tap water.
'Where is it coming from?'
There were no more rooms after that, only a balcony, so he decided to head up, to the towers.
As soon as he got there he received a notification.
