"You really look like a doll." Percy blurted while staring at her which made her cheeks blush.
Percy has been visiting her for months now. She never asked him why. He should be visiting Selene, not her.
"You never told me your name." He whispered.
It was a fine sunny day and they were resting under the maple tree. It was their favorite place where she was confined.
"I-I'm -"
"Your name is Sophia. I knew it but I was waiting for you to tell me." He blurted.
She was surprised he knew her name. She thought it wasn't important to him so he never asked her.
She nodded and smiled at him. He was surprised when at last, he saw her smiling. She has the most beautiful eyes, sparkling like the sky and the ocean. But he saw loneliness in them.
He was like her. They both grew up in a rich and powerful family who believes that wealth and power decide someone's worth. He never wanted Selene to be her fiance. He wanted to be like normal kids, to have friends and fall in love.
His grandparents promised the Anderson's that he will marry their eldest daughter. When his mom told him about Selene, he hired someone to investigate. He found out that she wasn't the eldest daughter, but her twin sister, Sophia.
He was curious about his future wife, but he was more interested with the Anderson's hidden princess. He didn't know the reason why Selene became the heir of the Anderson Clan, until the day of their first meeting. He met her twin sister, the prettiest girl he had ever seen. She was like a doll and he was mesmerized by her two different eye colors.
He heard that because of her eye defect, she was treated differently by her family. She was forced to hide from everyone. She wasn't allowed to play with other kids and was confined in her bedroom.
He wanted to save her. He wanted to help her get out of the house she grew up with.
When he heard she was moved to another villa, he got anxious and scared that he would never see her again. He was happy to find where she was moved after searching for her for days, but he hid his anger when he saw her swollen cheek.
Instead of telling him the truth, she lied and told him she fell. He admired her for being strong and even though she was treated like trash by her family, she never cried.
He looked at her and saw her smiling while staring at the blue sky. She turned her gaze to him and caught him looking at her.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" She asked, blushing.
His face suddenly became serious then slowly leaned forward. When Sophie saw him getting closer, her heart beat like a drum and when he was just a few inches away from her, she bit her lips and closed her eyes.
It was an innocent kiss between two young people. It was just quick but for her, it was the most wonderful gift she had received. Her first kiss.
Percy leaned his forehead against hers. They were both blushing and they could hear each other's heart pounding loudly.
"I will tell my father that I want you as my fiance. Sophie, when we grow up, I will marry you." He said in a serious tone.
She was surprised to hear those words from him. Her eyes widened and she suddenly stood up, stepping a few steps back.
"But how about my sister?" She asked, confused.
He knew she would ask her that, and he didn't really have any good reason if his parents asked why he would choose Sophie instead of Selene. No one knows that he was actually sneaking into that villa to visit Sophie.
The villa was near Golden Oak School so every lunch break, he would go over the school's fence to go where she was.
"It was an engagement decided by the adults, but I wanted something more than that. I think she would understand." He casually answered.
She was standing in front of him while he was still sitting under the maple tree. He could see that she was hesitating to answer him, it was her twin sister after all. He stood up then walked closer to her.
He then pulled her in a tight hug. She was shocked and wasn't able to move.
"Say that you'll marry me. I know we're just kids and I might not know yet what's the difference between love and like, but I know the feeling of happiness when I am with you. I wanted to be with you all the time, Sophie. Don't you feel the same way?" He asked while hugging her.
She couldn't explain the overwhelming feelings she had in her heart. She was happy that finally someone wanted her. She was scared that everything was just temporary and the moment they shared would eventually become just a memory.
"I-I feel the same way, but I'm sorry, I cannot be with you. As much as I wanted you to stay with me, I would never betray my sister. So please, don't ever come back here. Go to Selene. I don't want to see you again." She said, pushing him away while she stepped backwards.
"Sophie, I don't like your sister. Don't push me away. I want to be with you, not her." He said, almost shouting.
He felt a sudden pain in his heart. He couldn't understand why he felt like that when she said those words. Maybe because it's the first time someone rejected him. He was expecting that she would be happy but her reaction was not what he anticipated.
"I don't care if you like her or not. Soon, they will set a date for your engagement party. She's the one for you and not me. I just want to be an obedient daughter so don't make my life harder than it already is."
She didn't let him speak. She turned around and ran inside the house to hide her tears and her broken heart.
