Clarence lays Steel on the corner of the street in the shade letting her rest, Alice stays by her side to make sure she is okay. Running after Alex I stand idly by uncertain how to carry this situation or if I should just protect Steel.
A line of men in black come forward backing the black-haired woman up with guns in each hand lifted at Alex. He paid no mind to the men he self-proclaimed as fodder, easily he would spin, raising his legs kicking them out of the men's hands waiting for the lady in black's next move.
She builds momentum speedily swinging it over her head letting the chain release shattering the concrete of the street narrowly missing Alex.
His brutish nature, his cat-like movements saving him from her deadly range.
"Alex!" Clarence shouts, "We have no time for this game!"
"Mind your own business suit boy!" Alex argues.
"No, he got a point, Teddi." The voice calls, "Maybe next time…"
"Why are you on their side?" Teddi yells.
"Saniya…" I whisper.
Running out to the middle of the street I pause before moving any further, I could feel Alice looking at me frozen like I anticipated this. Saniya mounted with her arms crawling all over the black-suited agent.
"Oh so we meet again Christian, Teddi I will explain later. Goodbye!" Saniya states.
Clarence grabs onto Alex clutching tightly to his clothing.
Holding tight to Teddi they both vanish with a single hand movement, I was not able to think that second. Whose side am I on? The other men are nowhere in sight, I gawk around in confusion.
"We will get them next time!" Clarence shouts.
"Right…" I say.
Alex springs toward the group waiting at the corner, the livelihood of the large assembly of people returning to normal. The holes gaping in the roadway seem ordinary now…did they see what I saw?
Or perhaps this is as typical as gang fights anymore that happen? Do we ignore it, I realize the heavy scent of cyprdrenite hung heavy in the air. They automatically forgot…
"Christian?" Alice asks.
"Oh right!" I yell.
Catching up with the rest of my group, they act so ordinarily, but this has been their life forever. It has only been mine for a couple of months if even and I wonder if I will ever get used to it truthfully.
Due to my infinity…I feel like I have something very important to do. The dreams of this other Alice haunt me. Looking down at the sidewalk I am stuck in constant thought, every crevice I stick my shoe in the deeper cracks of the molded concrete.
I bump into Clarence, gawking up to see an abandoned park ahead of us. Alice had us stop to talk to a little girl crying all alone. I forgot how late it was.
Alex departs from our company to help Alice by picking the kid up. They come over with the kid in tow. The little girl is happy and smiling now.
The look of longing in Alice's eyes for Alex made me miss Chara. Which dismal scarlet moon am I looking for to swipe the sword, the sooner the better I thought.
"Sorry about that, looks like we need to find this little girl home first!" Alice explains.
"No more crying okay?" Alex adds.
"Fine…" Clarence comments, "It's not like Steel woken up yet anyways."
"Let's visit the nearby hotel then?" Alice says adamantly.
We all silently agree, we can't take a little girl with us to meet witches or keep tabs on them anyways. We check-in the nearest cheapest one to stay the night, we rent extra cots and blankets.
Alice and Alex entertain the little one with television, I sit with Clarence who has Steel sleeping on the other bed. The room is in poor repair, paint chipping off the walls, the beds are worn down, and springs sticking out of the side of the yellowed mattresses that are not well covered.
"How long will Steel sleep for?" I ask.
"Most likely the rest of the day, helping a little girl was most likely a good idea anyway," Clarence tells me.
"Hopefully we find her home then," I reply, "Clarence?"
"Yes Christian?"
"Why did you become a vampire?" I inquire.
He becomes silent turning his attention to Steel brushing the hair out of her eyes, he says nothing more. I wonder if something happened to him.
"There is nothing really to talk about." He responds nonchalantly.
"I see…I am sorry."
"Why are you sorry?" He asks.
"Because it seems we all have suffered," I note.
"Do you want to know something?" He says.
"Sure?"
Gazing down at her lovingly, he pushes the blanket up to her chest. I feel nervous in the moments he is hushed.
"I… never mind, there is a kid here," Clarence announces.
I felt more relieved not hearing what was on his mind, Alice gave the other bed to the little girl taking one of the extra cots for herself. They get her to bed right before ten at night resting with her so she settles down.
Eventually, we all fall to sleep before dawn. I hear a shuffling in the middle of the day at first I thought it was one of the household up and couldn't sleep, but…
"Hehehe…hehe."
Small childish laughter had me sitting up in bed, the kid is gone! Moving from rest I see no one. A bulge in the curtains makes itself known. I silently tiptoe towards the window covering in hopes of not scaring her.
Reaching out it fades, flattening against the surface of the window. I hold my mouth muffling my silent screams. This isn't a kid…
"Hehe…"
It chuckled again, its tiny legs were fast stumbling around rapidly. My eyes couldn't keep up with its movements. The door opens.
"Golden gaze!" I say breathlessly.
Shutting the door behind me, the child is once again one step ahead of me gliding down the halls eerily leaving signs of its existence in gales of laughter and its small feet padding around loud enough to figure out where it is next.
It led me to the outside where I see a black silhouette with a witch's hat, her legs kicking up and down in the presence of the half-moon.
"Saniya!" I shout.
"Sorry about Teddi back there." She says.
Tipping her hat gave me an unexpected smile, I glance back to make sure no one is there.
"Why are you here?"
"To make sure you are okay." She spouts.
"I am fine…how is Chara?"
"She is still sleeping, you seem more worried about her than yourself," Saniya said, "But…"
"But?"
"Mai already told me how you speak of her."
"Why are you here?" I argue.
"Just to check on you…you are mine after all."
