I decide to pocket the handcuffs in case I may need to use them in a hurry, Alice catches on quickly to what I am thinking, "We got to get out of here." I explain.
"You are right..."She agreed, taking the key back out of her pocket getting on her knees, she hunches over placing the key into the hole slowly turning it.
We brace ourselves for whatever is outside as soon open the door we notice a very tall lanky man staring down at us dressed in black pinstripes, Alice's instincts kick in causing her to push me away, "Well if it isn't the sword." The newcomer said to grab a hold of Alice.
Taking a lesson from Liam hurtling towards him knocking the man over, Alice is freed from his clutches, "Alice, we got to stick together!" I yell.
Underestimating how fast he is, he seems to be almost gliding toward us till we reach the steps where we are greeted by more men in black.
Looking up at the stranger almost resigning to fate when he places his hand on my shoulder, "Now, now...looks like you have two choices."
"You swear you won't hurt us?" I asked.
He gives me a grin.
"They are coming fast, what do you want to do?" He said they catch sight of us from above making their way up.
"You shouldn't trust him Christian!" Alice tells me, I shrug choosing to place my faith in his hands instead of being handcuffed again.
He bends down parting the collar of my work shirt biting down hard into my neck, I could feel him drain the blood from my veins; I felt almost fully paralyzed.
Lifting his fangs I feel unable to stand, he catches me by the waist peering down at me, "Okay let's go home shall we?"
"H-home?" I questioned sluggishly falling backward blacking out, I could hear Alice cry out my name.
Waking up, I find the same man sitting by my bedside.
"You seem shocked." He said I am completely drowsy coming from whatever happened to me.
"Where am I?" I asked he pulls out the handkerchief handing it to me, I didn't realize my nose was bleeding; I quickly clean it away handing it back to him.
"Welcome to the Everett clan compound." He states.
"Then where? Who are you? How did we get here?" I kept piling on questions out of mere confusion, I gawk around the small room comprised of nothing, but a small bed and white walls with a small dresser on the side.
"Looks like most if not all the people at your office were killed..." He explained slowly, I feel numb hearing him say those words.
"Why did you save us..." I asked holding my throbbing neck noticing the large band-aid plastered to my neck.
Looking down to find my clothes have been changed, I could tell I was scrubbed.
Touching my face I could tell I was blushing just by scrutinizing the clothing of white tunic and pants.
"You see, someone from the compound ran away...ironically was around your small office."
I automatically think about the man of small stature fighting that suited fellow, thinking of him seemingly made my right hand pulsate with pain.
Leaning down I ball my hand into a fist trying my best to bear with the pain as my body shudders, "What is going on!" I asked panting out wishing I could cry.
The door opens, I look up to see a lady with greenish-yellow hair pinned in a bun.
She scurries over setting a tray down on the nightstand to gently lay her hand on my back, "Dominique you lazy bastard he is in pain and you stand there!"
"That isn't my problem Chara." He responded coldly.
"How horrid...What's the matter?" She asked me propping my head against her chest, I felt so weak from the burning through my veins.
Was Dominique's bite that did it to me, I thought, gazing at him menacingly.
A throb hit me so hard, I couldn't help, but cry out loud, "Ahhh! Why!" I wail scared.
Chara takes my hand despite how shaky it was, my whole body trembled writhing in this unspeakable agony, "Please try to hold it still." she chides me.
Another person peeks in from the doorway, "Christian!" I heard Alice call my name.
She was dressed in the same long white tunic and pants, Alice bumps Chara over.
"This isn't a pet project!" I yelled as my hand spasmed.
"Shhh Christian!" She reprimands me, examining a mark I have never seen before.
I must have passed out again because I don't even remember how the pain subsided, coming too I was greeted by a beautiful woman with long black hair.
She wore an olive green pencil skirt and white blouse right under her long doctor's coat, her smiling was refreshing, "Are you feeling okay?" Her small voice rang out to me like an angel through her delicate features.
"I am now..." I replied weakly.
She clears her throat looking at her clipboard, "So I would like to ask you something, Christian it is?"
I gulped, "Yes?"
"We found the clan's mark on your palm, but it took your friend to neutralize it."
"Clan's mark?" I questioned staring at my hand to see a small symbol as though it was tattooed into my palm. I wondered where it came from.
"I wonder where you met a clan member." She said with a smile.
Sitting up, I was confused staring down at the blankets.
"Why would I know?"
"Only during the red moon, we are allowed out so you must have met the previous Devil's Assistant..." She clarifies.
I was completely taken aback by what she told me, "Excuse me? Red moon?"
"You can't leave as the veil is protecting us." The woman said with a chuckle.
"We can't leave?" I shouted overwhelmed with this new information.
Watching her get up, she has me scoot over a little to take a look at the mark again, "The thing is...you might never leave..."
Horrified by the implications I take my hand back from her grip, "I am not staying."
"You say that now, but give it time," The black-haired beauty told me.
"Why me..." I asked.
"I will tell you more later, for now, rest," She said exiting.
"Everyone keeps saying that..." I mutter to myself demotivated by the current events on hand, the most important question was:
Do I have a job still? Are we guests? How long? Maybe I should go seek Alice.
Crawling from the bed I go to turn the handle, I note it's been locked. "Great..."
I have nothing better to do than to get in bed and sleep the rest of the night, to be fair my hand was still in pain, but not as bad as before.
Crimson moons, fangs, men in black? All these questions reel through my mind, "What did Alice do?" I asked myself gawking at the mark.
Jumping back on the bed. I get myself comfortable for the rest of the night. I was already tired, to begin with, so it didn't matter much I was barred from going out.
