You're beautiful
You're beautiful
You're beautiful, it's true
I saw your face in a crowded place
And I don't know what to do
'Cause I'll never be with you
William likes to sing that song for reasons like him being a big fan of James Blunt and hearing everyone says they sound the same. He just never gets the you-also-look-the-same comment because they totally look different. He has a natural dark brown wavy hair that he never likes growing long unlike Mr. Blunt in 'You're Beautiful' music video and a typical Asian look; almond shape eyes, zero facial and body hair except those in his legs, fair color skin and nice smile. The last one he just likes to add since he knows very well how much girls like his smile, everyone except his best friend. Anna can never be swayed by his smile. He doesn't know if it is because they are best friends since diapers or his smile just didn't really work on her. But hers does to him. He knows he can't say no to her long, wavy, brunette hair, best friend whose big dark brown eyes shine behind her eyeglasses and whose dimples in both cheeks appear every time she smiles.
Those dimples. William thinks while watching her play with his little sister in the living room. He really doesn't know how to say no to her requests every time those dimples appear.
"Smitten?" He is surprised with the sudden voice he hears from his side and when he turns, he's even more startled to see his father sitting next to him with a glass of wine on his hand. He remembers him singing in front of the karaoke machine with Anna's dad just a while ago. He looks for him and sees him slicing a pie with Anna's mom. "Too smitten to be speechless?"
He brings his attention back to his dad.
"Dad?"
"You've been staring at Anna for a while, you know."
"I am just watching them play."
"Watching them or her?"
William chuckles.
"No dad. Of course not. I'm watching them."
"You know, Anna is growing to be more beautiful." He tries not to but it feels like his head voluntarily turns to once again watch his best friend plays with his sisters. "Isn't she?"
"S-she's-" He looks at her even better and smiles. "She's the same as always."
"Is she?"
"Yup." He says while nodding his head.
Beautiful, as always.
Beautiful. Never in their entire life has Anna ever hears William says that to her. Unlike the characters in the movie that they are named after, she has not once seen him look at her the way William in the movie looks at Anna in the movie.
'Cause he's the brother you never had, that's why. Anna scolds herself and brings herself back to her senses and watches William takes their horses from the stable and walks toward them.
"Alright. Shall we ride on them to your house?"
William asks after giving her horse to her.
"Okay."
"Good." They smile at each other and get onto the horse.
"You, two be careful on your way."
"Yes, mom." William answers his mom and begins his ride.
"We'll be behind you sweetheart." Anna's mom also says when she notices her looking at her and not following William.
"Okay, mom." That's the only time that she moves and follows William.
"I wish my baby girls Wynona and Wendy grow up like Anna." Megan says while watching the two teenagers run on their horses.
"You're their mother. Of course they'll grow up as sweet as you." Cassy, Anna's mom, replies with a big smile on her face. "William is as sweet as you."
"Oh no. He's as sweet as me." They both look at the owner of the voice who are coming toward them with Cassy's husband. "But as beautiful as you." He follows as he wraps his arms around his wife's waist.
"That I know very much." Then Megan plants a kiss on her husband's lips.
"Hey baby. You know you're the most beautiful person in my eyes, too right?" Ben, Cassy's husband, proclaims while giving her a back hug as they watch their best friends go lovey-dovey in front of them.
"I know baby but you know you don't need to be lovey-dovey to me, too. We're not like them."
"I know. Sorry." And they all chuckles. Just then, their driver, Sergio arrives with their car.
"Here's our ride. I'll see you in the church tomorrow." Cassy says to Megan after they kiss each other on the cheek while the two men greeted each other goodbye with a fist bump.
"Yes, we'll see you there."
Cassy and Ben get in the car and waived goodbye before they leave the place.
"Hey Anna, you'll sing for the choir tomorrow at church?"
William asks after Anna gets to catch up with him. They are riding slowly now that they're almost at Anna's house.
"Yeah, aren't you?"
"Nope."
"Why?" Anna furrows with confusion for they always serve at the same time in the church as choir members. This, will be the first and she has no idea why. William quickly glances at him with a smile she doesn't know what for. "What's with the smile William Harris?"
William stops the horse from walking and Abby follows. They are facing each other now with two different emotions seen on each other's faces.
"She's attending church tomorrow."
"What?"
"She'll be in the church tomorrow"
"Who?"
"Freckled new chick with gorgeous red hair."
"Oh."
"Yeah. I'll try to sit next to her in the church. I won't chat with her during the mass of course but I'll try to make a first good impression. Nobody hates a handsome man who can sing."
Anna knows William says something more after but she really didn't understand anything that comes after the 'freckled new chick with gorgeous red hair'. She just keeps quiet as she follows him to their farm and her mind continues to repeat that word, she.
