Music Class as William's favorite class is a no brainer to anyone who knows him. Aside from singing, he is also an outstanding instrumentalist. He knows how to play almost every musical instrument available from string to percussion. He has joined a lot of contests and once became a champion in playing the violin. But his most favorite is the guitar not only because it is the very first instrument he learned to play but it is also the first one that he received from his late grandfather when he was just eight years old.
And after learning that guitar is their first musical instrument to practice in class, William just can't hide his excitement. He even brings his favorite guitar to use in their class which is not surprising for Abby.
"You think we'll play right away today?" He whispers to Abby as soon as they find their place in their classroom where most of the students aren't really strangers to them. They sit next to each other on the fourth row with Abby taking the sit closest to the window, her favorite corner ever since primary.
"Maybe. Everyone here knows how to play it so I don't think that will be a problem." Anna answers as she settles herself and puts down her bag and guitar on the floor in front of her.
"I can't-" But William stops what he is about to say when he sees the person coming in to their room. Him as well as the rest of boys, even girls, turn their heads to the red hair girl roaming her eyes around the class room and slowly walking her way to an empty seat two seats away from William.
"She's here."
"She is." He hears Anna responds to him.
"She's in our block."
"Evidently."
He looks at her bestfriend with a very big smile on his face.
"It's the best first school day ever."
Of course.
Anna's mind whispers as she gives her best friend a fake smile after saying how best this day is to him. And another of course because he doesn't see how ungenuine that smile is as he turns his head away from her to look at the new girl again who continues to look around the classroom and finally sees them. Anna watches her as her already big eyes get wide upon noticing them and gently waives her hand while mouthing hi. Anna simply smiles back at him but she sees how big William's smile is, bigger than it was earlier, while he is waiving back to her.
"She looks beautiful in her uniform."
Anna shakes off the tiny pinch she feels in her heart when she hears him say that after not even complimenting him earlier when he saw her in the same uniform for the first time. She keeps the fake smile on her face and responds.
"Why wouldn't she be?"
"Right?" William's face and tone of voice as he looks at her to offer a high five for saying the right answer are like those of her parents every time she gives them a perfect score test results. "You really know how to answer Anna Rose."
"Of course." and another fake smile. She doesn't know how to thank their homeroom teacher for arriving in that very moment because she can already feel her mouth getting tired of it.
Everyone in the classroom sits properly and gives their attention to their homeroom teacher who starts to introduce herself after writing her name on the whiteboard. And when she finishes checking their attendance, she puts down her notebook on the table and stands in front of it, facing them with a very nice smile.
"So, I see how everyone here has a guitar on their place. You all know how to play it?"
"Yes." everyone answers in echoes.
"Good. So an impromptu performance will not be too much, will it?"
"No." They all answer in chorus again and with excitement in their tone.
"Better. Let me get my card and pick a lucky artist for today's first class." Ms. Antonio, their homeroom teacher, takes her cards and immediately picks one. All the students in the class show excitement on their faces as the teacher looks around the entire classroom and fixes her eyes to Anna's direction.
"Anna Rose? You got a song in your mind right now?" Anna smiles and nods to her teacher. "Good. The platform is yours, young lady."
Everyone claps and cheers while Anna makes her way in front of the class carrying her guitar.
"Hi. I'm Anna and I'll be singing a song with a guitar on it."
She smiles and takes her seat on the chair that their teacher already placed there before she walked to the back so she can see her performs clearly.
Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won't see
That I want and I'm needing everything that we should be
I'll bet she's beautiful, that girl he talks about
And she's got everything that I have to live without
And as she sings, she keeps her eyes on her guitar too afraid that if she looks up she will end up looking at either William or Isabella, the Drew and the she in the song she is singing. And if that happened, the entire classroom, including their teacher, would know the real feeling she has been trying to dodge off.
