Chereads / AWAKENING: Jörmungandr / Chapter 11 - 11

Chapter 11 - 11

"So, originally I was going to set you guys off with a fully made system and to let you level up alone before the humans come, right?"

A huge smile was displayed on the System's face as the three supernatural beings stared at her, questions in their eyes.

"Now, you'll level up and grow when the humans come!"

"See," the System excitedly pressed on, ignoring the mute disbelief of the siblings, "by leveling up with the humans, you'll be able to better grow and connect with them!"

Of course, Fenrir was confused why this was happening and was wondering what the HEL was going on, but truthfully Jörmungandr didn't think much of it.

Whether he had to "level up" with other people or not, he just wanted to find that girl he'd met in his dreams.

"How will our... companions, be decided, System?"

Although Hel was the cause of this decision, she disliked the thought of working with ordinary humans who were not battle tested and proven, especially when she was more used to judging them; having to work with the humans as equals was... new.

"Hm? I didn't tell you? Oh, humans decide that. "

"...Pardon?" Hela deadpanned, her emerald eyes widening a bit at the fairly ridiculous proposition that had just been made. The humans had to choose them?

Fenrir was in a similar position, as growls started to rumble from his throat, and anger coursed through his limbs.

Again, Jörmungandr didn't think much of it, as he wasn't certain what was so important about humans choosing them. His sibling reactions in his eyes were actually rather extreme, and in seeing their anger he decided to speak up properly.

"What does that mean that we're chosen by them?"

Jörmungandr's question snapped his others siblings silence in half, and the System, now nervous, explained, "Well... this is a survival game right? It's only fair that they get some choice in the matter, so before they get pulled into the world, they choose a patron whose power they can draw on."

"... And who are these patrons?" Hela cautioned, her temper calming down as Jörmungandr took the initiative for them.

"Well," the System continued on, less excited but still enthusiastic, "they're all from different mythologies. I ran a survey on the human web under the guise of a company getting data to make a new VR game, and what came up the most was Greek, Roman, Egyptian and Norse mythology. So, there'll be different factions with gods and monsters, all ready to fight each other to the death to establish the Nine Kingdoms, pulled from all of those mythologies!"

"Alright, got it," sighed Fenrir, as he started massaging his head at the information influx. "But what about us? What's our faction name in the... Norse group?"

The System grinned and a look of pride overcame her face as she proclaimed, "I'm actually really proud of the name for your faction, I worked hard on it, mulling for months on end to name it—it's called the Ragnarok Faction!"

The naming sense that the System was so proud of... was actually... quite... horrible really...
