Chapter 39 - THE YOUNG MAGES CHAMPION OF ANTENNE TOWN

THE YOUNG MAGES CHAMPION OF ANTENNE TOWN

"Are your family making the huge bets on the Conjurer Apprentice winning, Amelia?" someone asked Amelia.

"I have no idea about that, Governor Strong, I usually don't gamble although my assistant Hugo loves to make a bet now and then", Amelia replied to her.

The Governor of Antenne town came to join in the conversation.

"Maybe he's betting on behalf of the Conjurer of the Conjurer's Court", Kedrix told the governor.

"A Conjurer is in my town, and I don't know about it?" Governor Strong asked the patriarch of the families.

"I don't know if the Conjurer is here, only his apprentice is competing in the match", Amelia replied to the governor.

"Are you approving the insane bet?" Gordon Kleppon asked the governor.

"I will usually not allow such large bets but if it involves a Conjurer, I must make an exception", Governor Strong told them.

"Battle Commence"

The final match was between me and Ivor from the Burgess family who were also nobles in Nymera. Ivor's magic and strength was comparable with Klaud and both of them were favored to meet in the finals before I ruined it for Klaud.

Although Ivor and Klaud were similar in strength I couldn't underestimate my opponent in the last match. Since I defeated Klaud so easily, it was quite reasonable that the Burgess family would provide much better gear for Ivor during the match, so that I couldn't defeat him.

I also made an unusually large bet on me winning this match, so there were people especially in the gaming industry who would like to see me lose.

"I bet my mother-in-law for this cheater to lose", my favorite fan suddenly announced and shouted.

"I hope she's a nag", I replied to him loudly before the fight.

Ivor was extremely quick and right after the bells were sounded, he rushed at me with a punch that threw me to the ground, like how Klaud did to me in the previous match.

"Earthquake strike punch"

Ivor's punch felt like an earthquake that exploded on my belly and the power was so strong that it could destroy my Tanith armor. The power from the punch reverberated into the ground causing the tiles in the arena to break.

The Earthquake punch was one of the strongest templar skills that I ever experienced. Ivor was vicious and his charged punch was followed by a second and a third.

"Earthquake strike punch"

Ivor punched at me like a mad dog and punched me further and further away from the stage and soon I would be thrown off the stage like how I defeated all my previous challenges.

"Use your magic vines", Ivor taunted me, conscious that I have the powerful conjuration on me.

However, I was coughing blood all over myself and it was obvious to him that conjuring magic was off the table for me.

"Fine I'll end your sorry sob now", Ivor told me as he charged against me with another, final killing punch.

"Ring of Growth"

Magical vines suddenly appeared on the battle stage, but it wasn't to grapple Ivor because he probably had a spell on him that would prevent that, otherwise, he wouldn't taunt me to use my vines.

Instead, my vines blocked Ivor's punch as it pulled me away and threw me back into the arena behind Ivor.

"Argghhh", Ivor screamed in anger as he conjured a magical blade into my vines that projected a powerful and wide magical cut that severed the vines quickly.

"Blades of Fury"

The blade slash was Ivor's trick up his sleeves to be used against my vines when I cast them, and it was frankly quite effective against my vines because it was powerful magic.

"I knew of your bloody vines, see how they perform against my magic slash", Ivor shouted to me.

The magical slash conjured by Ivor caught me by surprise. Only general caution against underestimating my opponent saved me this time. But powerful it might be, the slash drained Ivor's magic, so there was no more conjuring from him.

However, despite my reservations, he forced me to use my final move.

"Magical Missile"

Suddenly magical pellets struck Ivor's knees that broke his kneecaps.

"Argghhh", Ivor screamed in agony as I came to grab his feet which were at this time in pain and unresponsive to his brains after his kneecaps were broken.

I had a secret trick up my sleeves, the magic from my soul realm that was equivalent to the strongest of Mercury tiered magic. Ivor was completely immobilized below his knee after being wounded by my magic missiles.

"Here you go, bye", I told Ivor as I made a quick swing and threw him out of the arena stage and won the battle.

"Ermm… Orion wins", the referee announced.

The spectators no longer made any comment on my qualifications and abilities.

Although many still believed that I was a cheat, I won the Young Mages Competition and as a reward was awarded the Isolation Lamp that would double the absorption of magic from magical hearts.

-----

"Did any of you see how he won the match", Governor Strong asked the patriarch of the families.

"Ivor fell to the ground suddenly for no reason", Gordon replied to the governor.

"I didn't see any other conjuration coming from the apprentice besides his magic vines though", Kedrix told them about his take on the battle.

"What do you know about this boy, Amelia. You are the one who recommended him to the competition", the governor asked Amelia.

"This boy is full of secrets", she replied to him before she added, "as is expected from the apprentice of the Conjurer Court of Drachia".

-----

Amelia and Hugo from the Noten family came to congratulate me after the competition and booked a banquet in my honor. The Noten family gained some reputation from the match too because they sponsored my entry to the competition.

After the niceties, Hugo came to me to give me my winnings, "Here this is a Bank Card for fifty million silver that you can draw from Noten Bank at any time, I couldn't carry so much silver over", Hugo told me.

I didn't mind keeping my money in the bank because I would return to this city soon and stay here for a while.

"Wow, thanks Hugo", I told Hugo before we went for the banquet to celebrate my victory.
