Chapter 9 - CHASED BY SERPENTS OVER HANGING TREES

CHASED BY SERPENTS OVER HANGING TREES

"Nobody had ever seen Angels although we are taught that they are the strongest existence in the history of our continent called the Ten-kingdoms and they ruled the Church of All-seeing, the most powerful religion and organization in this continent of ten kingdoms. As to the Mages, the only thing I know about them is that they are from another magical world called Prolis", Greenduff said to me.

"Yes, I understand, I'm already very happy to be awakened", I told Greenduff.

Becoming Angels and Mages was good for daydreaming but in reality, this was more of a fantasy. But I was already quite satisfied to have finally awakened my Templar magic.

"By the way would you be interested in becoming my apprentice, you can still stay in Slowan village, and I won't be around most of the time, you can take care of things here for me", Greenduff offered me an apprenticeship.

"Wow of course I would want to, but I'll have to ask my father first", I told Greenduff.

"Hahaha..of course, he would agree", Greenduff said to me.

For the next month, I was busy studying Conjuring and spell engraving from Greenduff and my main responsibility was to prepare and store magical reagents for him.

But after the month he left for his usual traveling again while I could run the conjurer's hut freely as I wished.

I also had a lot of free time to continue hunting magical creatures in the forest.

-----

Now that I have awakened my templar magic and the special Angel Affinity, my templar training must be different from the other children because I needed five times more magic and effort than usual.

Usually, Templars train the magic in their body on a specially prepared magic mat or carpet that had a Gathering Spell that increases magic absorption into the body, offering some simple reagents such as magic incense to power the mat.

I on the other hand needed to do more and to do that I needed magical creatures' hearts which contained a huge amount of magic.

For the next few months, my friends and I hunted in the forest for magical creatures and the task became much easier after I was awakened. I was no longer the drag on the team that couldn't do much besides setting traps. I was now strong enough to hunt together with my friends.

With the magical hearts that I collected from the many creatures that we hunted, my magic grew enormously but it was still a long way before I could attain the second Level of Awakening Tier.

Even Raven and Bommurs increased a level during this time to Awakening Level 3 while my level was still at Level 1.

"Damnit, when would I have enough magic to level up?" I asked myself.

There was only one thing for me to do, which was to continue hunting magical beasts.

-----

We returned deep into the forest to look for creatures to hunt because most magical creatures around the periphery of Slowan forest were captured or killed by us.

"Is it safe to come so deep into the forest again?" Bommurs asked us.

"We are scouting the place like last time, remember to run to the shuttle if we see the Tanith again", I told my friends.

"Rumble...rumble...rumble"

Before we actually did much, Raven ran back to us as a creature chased him from behind.

"Hell, run", Raven shouted as he disturbed Tanith again.

"Not again?" Bommurs shouted out loud as we all ran toward the wrecked space shuttle.

"Go in quick", I told my friends after opening the hatch to the shuttle but before I could get in myself, Tanith lunged at me which threw me away from the shuttle.

Luckily for my friends, they were already inside the shuttle.

"Hide inside you guys", I told my friends as I tried to run from the serpent.

Fortunately for me, I was just awakened in Templar magic, so I could run quickly and was relatively strong, after templar magic augmented my attributes. There was also a layer of magic on my skin that acted as magic armor of sorts that could protect me from harm.

"Arghhh"

Suddenly Tanith bit my shoulders with its long, sharp fang as it quickly flung me away.

"Hell, this magic armor of Templars is good. I'll be dead if I don't have this magic", I told myself.

My magic body armor prevented the serpent from biting deeper into my shoulder, but the Tanith was poisonous. Even though the serpent bite wasn't deep, its poison went through, and my body couldn't move as I was poisoned by it.

"Damnit the poison immobilized me, what am I going to do?", I asked myself.

Then I remembered something.

The Tanith rushed to eat me but unexpectedly I was pulled away from the Tanith by a long vine that grappled me away and carried me up a large tree.

"Ring of Vines"

The vines were magically conjured from my ring.

"Whew, lucky I took this from Greenduff's stash", I told myself.

I borrowed a magic ring from Greenduff's hidden stash, and I thought of bringing it along for emergency use and it proved to be useful here.

After my templar awakening, my Conjuring Star was awakened and all the stars in the Conjuring region of my templar sky lighted up as they channeled their magic into my templar ring, which correspondingly conjured the magic vines that pulled me away from the Tanith.

This wasn't the first time that I practiced with the ring, so using the ring's magic was familiar to me.

"Rawwrrrrrr"

The Tanith wasn't pleased that its food, me, was taken away, so it decided to climb the tree to catch me but as it was nearing me, my magical vines swung, and I flew to another tree, as more vines grappled the other tree as a hanging pole.

"Haha.. you cannot catch me", I told Tanith cheekily.

Although I was immobilized by the Tanith's poison, I could conjure the vines to pull me away, and hopefully, I could escape from the deadly Mercury Tiered serpent.

However, Tanith was relentless as it followed me closely behind and there was no escaping the snake because it was following the scent from the blood that was dripping from me due to the snake bite.

"Damnit, it's my blood betraying me", I complained to myself.

No matter where I went, the serpent would be able to find and locate me, through the scent of my dripping blood.

Without realizing it I was pushed far deeper into the forest as the Tanith chased me closely from behind. Although I could move with magical vines pulling me, my magic was limited, and eventually, my usable magic was all drained and I couldn't move with the vines anymore.

I was also exhausted from the chase and not to mention I was poisoned by Tanith's initial bite. Eventually, I couldn't stand the chase anymore and fell to the ground, unconscious.
