-YES SIR!
I hate when they scream, so I closed my eyes tight while waiting for the ringing in my ears to stop. Not like I haven't got used to it for now, but it still bothers me.
When the ringing stopped, I straightened my back, raised my chin and looked at my platoon and almost chocked at my salvia.
They all looked so serious, waiting passionately for my orders. They would run, jump, hide to just one word of mine...they would kill if I were to put it in order. I felt nervous. My hands started sweating, my heart beated like crazy, my vision became unclear. "Don't you dare passing out!" I thought.
- Colonel Sophia!! - He got me out of the rut. A warrant officer, and he's running like he's being chased. "What the hell?" I turn towards him. When he stops, he needs a few second to catch his breath, but then he starts to scream again.
- Colonel Sophia, The Major General is asking for you. - he says, and lookes at me like I was invited to my last dine.
"Not like I could change on anything.." I tough and roll my eyes. The air freezes when I take the first step towards the warrant officer, then when I go around him and start to walk to the M. G.'s tent, I can hear the boys wispering.
- I'm sure it will be the same as yesterday..
- Fuck, that was loud! They were screaming so much I couldn't sleep in my own tent.
- Yeah, the Major General never liked the Colonel, and when she got upgraded he fuckin' lost it!
- But why tough?
- Ya stupid or what?! The Colonel is the youngest in this camp! And she's even a woman...
I snatched. I stood in front of the boys just in the split of the second, and they all freezed. I know black fog was gathering around me and the platoon as well. I looked them dead in the eyes, my hand moved on it's own when I took out my pistol. My finger rested on the trigger, ready to pull and shoot, but someone placed their hand on my shoulders. The fog started to clear while I got myself together. The gun fell down from my hands, and I turned. "This motherfucker..."
- Lieutenant Colonel Benedict...good timing, as always.- I say with a face of disgust.
He grinned, and looked around.
- Why would you want to kill these good fellows, huh?
I looked at the guys, they were still white from fear.
- Ask them if you really wanna know. - I said and turned from him phlegmatic.
- That's why I hate kids...
Tears gathered in my eyes, but I didn't let them fall. I quickly wiped them away, and took a deep breath. It's the same since the day I arrived, and it probably won't change.. I don't know why Benedict did what he did after this. Maybe he saw I almost cried? Or he just felt pity for me? But still...
- What the bloody hell were yall talking about Jayce? - he asked and looked at the boy I was pointing to with my pistol earlier. Jayce and the other three stayed as quite as a mouse.
- Will you tell me now, or should I take you to the Major General, and ask him to make you talk? We both now it wouldn't be that nice of an experience.
My whole platoon was looking at the ground, they all wanted to dissapear, but none talked. To be honest, it didn't matter to me at that moment. They just said out loud what everybody in this camp is thinking.
Benedict stood in front of them like a rapacious, waiting for their prey to make a move than attack, and everybody felt it. His gaze pirced through the boys heads. When he felt like he won, so about after a tense minute, he grinned again and started talking.
- Why do yall have to do the same shit over and over again? Yeah, true, Colonel Sophia is the youngest in this camp, and yes, she's a woman! Wow, magic! - he said and laughed. - But still, she's one of the best soldiers here. She was upgraded because she deserved it, so even if you can't respect her as a person, respect her rank, and keep you'r mouths shuted! Now if you excuse us, we have a meeting to attend. Colonel, after you!
He tried to grab my waist, but I took him to ground holding his arm behind his back.
- Don't you dare!
He laughed and got up right after I let him go.
- Shouldn't you say "Thank you!" for me Colonel?
- Through my dead body. - I said cold, and started walking to the Major General's tent.
When we got far enough them to not hear it, I opened to mouth to talk.
-Thank you..
Benedict looked confused. " Fuck, don't look at me like that!"
- Don't think too much into it and walk!
- How could I do that? The pretty little Colonel Sophia just thanked me something! We should have gotten it to camera, don't you think?
He laughed sarcastic and winked. I froze, then almost punched him but my Brigadier walked out from one of the tents, so I lost my oportunity. I took a deep breath, not the first today.
- Anyways, why did the Major General call for us?
- Do I look like someone who can answer this question for you?
- Nope, but you might know something.
- I'm sad to say, but no. But I'm just as curious as you are, Colonel.- "At least he respects my ranking." I tought, and we walked into the big, messy green tent.
- Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel, finally you're both here!
- Yes, Major General, excuse us for taking so long! - I bowed a bit, and pulled down Benedict next to me when I saw him standing and looking around, not carrying a tiny bit about the M.G. He growled, and got back up.
- If I may, Major General, why did you call for us?- he asked.
Even tough I was pissed by the way he acted, I still looked at the General curiously.
His face became stiff and lost the smile he was greating us with. He looked down to the table that stood in front of him. I looked there too, and so did Lieutenant Colonel Benedict. It was a map and a strategy plan, but I wasn't sure about it's whereabouts. While looking at it more, I started to feel like these weren't our platoons on the map, then it hit me.
- These are platoons of regular people. There are no magic users between them. - the General nodded.
- Yes.
- And the other platoons, where there are more soldiers..they are fucking orks. - said Benedict while hissing through his teeth.
- Yes..
I looked at The Major General. His face was white like a wall and looked troubled.
" Why did he want to talk to us? Why did he show us this picture? Was it on purpose? What does he want us to do?..."
- Fuck.
Benedict knew it too. We both realised it pretty fast. We were about to be sent to the front line.
- I want you to go there and save those people! If the orks occupy the land those men try to save, we'll be their next target. I can't let that happen.
- And what exectly do you want us to do, Major General? - asked Benedict.
- To go there and kill all the orks! Use all your powers if necessarly!
The Lieutenant Colonel looked to the strategy plan again, but I had one more question. I already know the answer, but I wanted to clear things.
- Major General?
-Yes?
"Deep breath.."
- We'll have to go alone, just the two of us, right?- The feeling of the frozen air left us breathless. I waited for the answer passionately.
The General nodded, but didn't look at us.
I could hear my heart stop for a moment.
" Shit."
