Chapter 9 - CHAPTER NINE: REMEMBER MY PROMISE

Naysa was too worried about her sister that she didn't notice uncle Tarran arrived and then left with her mother. Suddenly her mother burst in followed by uncle Tarran who was trying to restrain her. Naysa jumped to her.

" What's going on?" She asked.

" Mrs. Haven calm down. Let the doctors attend to him." Uncle Tarran said. " Doctor, can a blood transfusion work?"

" That'll be too late. We can't save him." The doctor replied.

" Uncle? You mean? Uncle what happened to dad?" Naysa trembled. A nurse handed uncle Tarran a card and left. Silence enveloped as they exchanged glances.

" Take me to dad." Arya suddenly said.

" You're up?" Naysa didn't know whether to be happy or sad. Arya was put on the stretcher and pushed into the next room. Naysa almost collapsed when she looked at the man on the bed. Mr. Haven was soaked in blood, barely breathing.

" Dad... What happened to you? How comes?" She couldn't believe her eyes. This whole turn of events seemed like a dream. If it's a dream, I want to wake up faster, she thought. " Dad we need you ok? I need you, Arya needs you and mommy needs you."

" Mr. Haven suffered from two bullet wounds. Though he was not shot straight into the heart, the bullet missed the heart by inches but destroyed his coronary artery. The second bullet passed through his neck and the carotid artery was destroyed. His spinal cord is also injured. Actually it's a great miracle he's still struggling but breathing right now." The doctor said before leaving.

Naysa walked to the bedside. She could only imagine the pain her father was going through right now. Her mother was almost running crazy and she was too confused to even react. She just stood between the bed,on which lay her husband and the stretcher on which lay her daughter.

Naysa looked at her dad, who was no better than dead, then her sister whose eyes were clouded with tears. Uncle Tarran didn't know how to react, he just stood there confused. " No dad you're not going anywhere, you haven't seen me graduate, you haven't seen Arya grow up into a beautiful woman. You can't leave." Naysa cried, holding her father tightly.

Mr. Haven coughed thick blood as he looked at his daughter. His eyes were full of sympathy. Naysa wiped the blood with her hand and looked at her dad who forced a bitter but gentle smile. Before she could say anything, her dad took the last breathe. Florence collapsed on the floor and Naysa remained with a blood paint on her hands...

"No... No dad, you can't do this... Daaad..." Uncle Tarran carried Florence out. Naysa was too shocked to do anything. She turned to look at her sister. They stared at each other without a word, just tears.

" You remember my promise?" Arya asked her, forcing a smile.

" Dad is gone already, just open your eyes for a while longer. I may find consolation in them." Naysa smiled, bending over her sister's face and looking deep into her eyes. The drops of tears fell on Arya's face and mixed with her won tears. The blue eyes shone but there was sadness in them as she looked at her sister who used all efforts to make her happy.

"I promised you my blue eyes. Maybe one day you will look into them for a bit longer." Arya said sadly, but maintained the cute smile.

" If heaven is real, if God is real, I'll ask Him to give you my blue eyes, just to fulfill my promise to you and show how much I love you. If reincarnation is real, then I'll want to come back into your arms, I just want to stay a bit longer, and have you stare in my eyes forever." With that, Arya breathed her last with a huge smile. A drop of tear sneaked from her eyes into her long black hair. Naysa wanted to faint but she couldn't.

" Arya, you're joking right? Open your eyes for me please, let me look at them. You really wanted to stay, why do you let go?" Naysa shook the body which was already loosing it's warmth. She hugged her tightly. " What about the memories we shared? I read books for you, you made me love music, why? Why now?"

When uncle Tarran entered the ward, he was shocked. Naysa was crying, one hand holding onto her dad's cold arm and the other arm wrapped around her sister. She buried her face in Arya's young chest and cried her heart out untill she collapsed.

Florence went into a comma for three months. Naysa spend the the nights and weekends in hospital singing to her mother and waiting eagerly for her mother to wake up. Uncle Tarran moved into the Haven's house. Marina came to keep her company. When her mother woke up, she developed a heart disease.

Naysa woke up. She was alone and darkness was closing in. To her, everything was ugly and the world was unfair. Not knowing where to go, she walked out aimlessly, her mind in a mess.
