Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: we should keep her Indoors

She knew she could count on Dora.

As they sat at the table, Dora's cat Mr. Whiskers slowly walked into the room, his tail twitching weakly. Allen's eyes widened with concern.

"Dora, what's wrong with the cat ?" Allen asked, noticing the cat's sluggish movements.

Dora's expression turned somber. "I'm afraid Mr. Whiskers is sick. He's been acting lethargic for a few days now, and I've been trying to get him to eat, but he just doesn't seem to be okay.

As they watched, Mr. Whiskers suddenly darted towards the knife that Allen had used to make a small cut on Avon's hand earlier.

Before anyone could react, Mr. Whiskers began to lick the blood stain from Avon that had remained on the knife.

Allen and Dora gasped in shock, but before they could intervene, Mr. Whiskers had already ingested the blood.

Almost instantly, the cat's eyes brightened, and his fur began to shine with renewed health.

Avon's eyes widened in amazement. "Mommy, look! Mr. Whiskers is better!"

Dora stared at Mr. Whiskers in stunned silence, unsure of what to make of what they had just witnessed.

Mr Whiskers looked better and more energetic and he begun moving around normally.

Allen and Dora were still confused.

" Didn't you say he was sick ?" Allen asked in disbelief

" I don't get it too." Dora said.

Allen and Dora exchanged a bewildered glance, both of them struggling to comprehend what they had just witnessed.

"How is this possible?" Allen asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

" I think Avon's blood healed Mr. Whiskers in an instant." Said Allen.

Dora shook her head, her eyes wide with wonder. "I've never seen anything like it. It's as if Avon's blood has some kind of... healing property."

Avon looked up at her mother, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Mommy, what does it mean?"

Allen hesitated, unsure of how to explain the strange occurrence. "We're not sure yet, sweetie. But we'll figure it out together."

As they pondered the mystery, Mr. Whiskers jumped onto Avon's lap, purring contentedly.

Dora quickly took charge, gathering up the knife and the remaining fruit.

"Let's get dinner started, shall we?" she said, smiling warmly.

Allen nodded, still looking a bit stunned from the earlier events. "That sounds wonderful, Dora. Thank you."

As Dora busied herself in the kitchen, the delicious aromas of cooking food filled the air. Avon's eyes lit up, and she climbed down from her chair to watch Dora cook.

"What are you making, Aunt Dora?" Avon asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.

Dora smiled, stirring the pot. "I'm making your favorite, sweetie - chicken and rice. And some steamed vegetables on the side."

Allen smiled, feeling grateful for Dora's warmth and hospitality. "You're a lifesaver, Dora. We're so lucky to have you."

As they sat down to enjoy their meal together, the tension and uncertainty of the earlier events began to fade away.

After dinner Avon was taken to bed for sleep.

Dora and Allen sat down to talk about Avon again.

" I think we should keep a low profile for now," Allen said, her brow furrowed in thought.

Dora nodded in agreement. "I can help with that. My house is pretty secure, and I can make sure Avon is safe here."

" Allen, Let's keep her indoors not until she can control powers." Dora suggested

" She is a child, is it possible ?" Allen asked.

" Yeah, It will be easier. Let's get an excuse to assure her that outside is not safe for her life." Dora said.

Allen tried to swallow in whatever Dora was telling her. But to some extent it made sense.

The next morning, Dora and Allen sat down to breakfast, discussing their plan to keep Avon indoors.

"We need to come up with a good excuse to keep her inside," Allen said, sipping her coffee.

Dora nodded thoughtfully. "How about we tell her that there's a bad cold going around, and we don't want her to catch it?"

Allen smiled, impressed. "That's perfect. Avon will definitely buy that."

As Avon entered the kitchen, rubbing the sleep from her eyes, Dora and Allen exchanged a knowing glance.

"Good morning, sweetie," Allen said, giving Avon a warm hug. "We need to talk to you about something."

Avon looked up at her mother curiously. "What is it, Mommy?"

Dora smiled sympathetically. "There's a bad cold going around, and we don't want you to catch it. So, we're going to stay indoors for a little while, okay?"

Avon's face fell slightly, " For how long Mommy ? "

" A few weeks.." Allen said.

" So I won't play with the other kids ?" Avon asked.

" I will buy you as many toys as possible. You will not be bored." Allen promised.

" Okay Mom"

Later on, Allen sat at the kitchen table, sipping her coffee and scrolling through job listings on her phone.

She knew she needed to get a job to support herself and Avon.

Dora walked into the kitchen, noticing Allen's focused expression. "What's on your mind, Allen?" she asked.

Allen looked up, smiling. "I'm thinking of getting a job. We can't rely on your hospitality forever."

Dora's face lit up with support. "That's a great idea, Allen! I'm happy to help you get back on your feet."

As Dora stayed over to watch Avon Allrn tried to get a job but all in vein.

"Actually, Allen, I have a better idea." Dora talked to her after two weeks of looking for a job.

" Why don't you come work with me at my new beauty shop?"

Allen's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? You'd want me to work with you?"

" Yeah, Remember I'm just opening it up. Though I am not sure if my products will sale.."

Allen's face lit up with excitement. " Don't give up yet. I will be glad to work with you." Allen promised.

Dora and Allen sat down to discuss the logistics of working at the beauty shop.

"We'll need to find someone to watch Avon while we're working," Allen said.

Dora nodded. "I've already thought of someone. My friend, Luna, is a wonderful nanny. She's trustworthy, kind, and has years of experience."

Allen smiled, feeling relieved. "That sounds perfect. Let's give her a call."

Luna agreed to meet with them, and after a pleasant interview, they hired her on the spot.

Dora and Allen sat down with Luna in the living room, their expressions serious. "Luna, we need to tell you something important about Avon," Dora said.

Luna's eyes widened with curiosity. "What is it ?"

" Avon has some powers… but don't frick out. She can't harm you.."

Luna's expression turned solemn. " oh, You mean she is… And what do you need me to do?"

Allen's eyes locked onto Luna's. "We need you to keep Avon safe. Never let her out of the house, no matter what. And never tell her the truth about her powers."

Luna nodded, her face set in determination. "I won't let anything happen to her. But what about Avon? What do we tell her?"

Dora's expression turned sad. "We'll tell her that it's not safe for her to go outside. That there are people who might hurt her. We'll have to keep lying to her, at least for now."

Luna's eyes filled with compassion. "Poor Avon. She deserves to know the truth."

Allen's voice was firm. "We'll tell her the truth when the time is right. But for now, we have to protect her."

Later on, Allen and Dora sat down with Avon in the living room, their expressions serious.

"Avon, sweetie, we need to talk to you about something," Allen said gently.

Avon looked up at her mother curiously. "What is it, Mommy?"

Dora smiled reassuringly. "It's just that outside isn't a safe place for you right now. There are a lot of germs and bad people out there who might hurt you."

Avon's eyes widened with concern. " why would they ? "

" Don't you remember they way people wanted to beat you earlier from your school ?" Allen asked.

" I remember.." Said Avon.

" Yes, Because you can do different things people hate you. Only I , Aunty Dora and Luna can protect. So from now onwards, you will always be indoors with Luna." Allen said.

Dora nodded. "Yes, really. But don't worry, we'll take care of you here at home. You'll be safe and happy with us."

Avon looked uncertain, but eventually nodded. "Okay, Mommy. I'll stay inside."

Dora and Allen exchanged a relieved glance. They had convinced Avon to stay indoors, at least for now.
