Chapter 5 - Crystal Tears

Chapter 5

Princess Elif Havil had always been put away by her parents because she was born with a mysterious feature. Growing up, she was never allowed to play outside with the palace children, let alone her siblings. She always sat in her inner chambers with little or no light because she had incredible photosensitive eyes. But that was not all...

Back to when King Neil Tero asked her to look upon him, he noticed a strangeness about her eyes. Her eyes were rusty red. This color was beyond a regretful cry or a passionate sob. And when he looked closely, he noticed that she didn't cry as normal humans did. When Princess Elif cried, she cried crystals not tears. It was the strangest thing that King Tero had ever seen. The ground below his feet, were full of crystals so much so that if he stepped upon them, they could tear up his huarache sandals.

It was in that instance that he skidded backwards! "What are you"? He inquired looking around in hopes that no one was going to answer. Her parents couldn't form the words in their minds, let alone on their tongues. Too shocked to his bones, he began to sweat profusely. So many thoughts raced through his head.

He had heard about how the women of Havilla caused men to stray. They had gods too innumerable. Goblets, pewters, communal spoons and even horns of cows were worshipped. "If all these could be worshipped, how much more a Princess who cried crystals... Could she be a god? Well she's female so – perhaps a goddess she might be" he thought to himself.

As King Tero was about to dash out of their palace, the Queen broke the ice. "She's not supernatural my king and believe me she's not a goddess either... she is as human as yourself". "She doesn't bite nor has she ever harmed a fly. Goddesses don't carry children", she added.

"But see! Your seed lives in her and according to the time when seeds are sown and harvests are owned, surely, she shall put forth child like every other woman. Today I tell you and I swear by Pewter; our bronze god that if anything strange becomes of her, you can be sure to have my head on your plate".

After King Tero had heard her swear by their gods, he took succor in her words and returned with Princess Elif as wife. There was a clustered banquet thrown for the King and his bride. It was a small celebration as the Queen was already with child which was not customary. The King and Queen of Havilla were in attendance and a few relatives of King Tero were also present.

Many days had passed and Queen Ashra of Francmort was even more troubled about the vision she had seen. She couldn't decipher what it meant. She wondered who the identical young women were in her vision. She also wondered why she had seen many swords rising to form a pyramid. "Will our kingdom be over thrown"? She asked herself.

It was barely pink dawn when Queen Ashra girded her loins like an assortment of cards and veiled her body in a concave manner as she flitted down the palace stairs like a teenage ballerina. It was about that hour when men sought the faces of their gods and when spirits mated with spirits. The Queen was a daring woman and at whatever cost, she was ready to decipher the disturbing vision from many nights ago.

The Queen arrived at a small shed and it was covered in smoke. The shed was located at the end of fright and it was that shed whose hinges were rusty, and whose door gave off a creepy creaking sound. There were spider webs everywhere and this was symbolic of a place devoid of use but that was not the case. Amongst Seer Mawrer's gifting, was his ability to penetrate walls. She met the seer holding his palms over a cauldron as it boiled over flickers of fire. Once his gaze met hers, he gave an epileptic bow to acknowledge her presence. Immediately he was through with his palm reading and conjuring, he gave her a proper bow.

"What brings you to my smoky shed at this hour your majesty"? He smirked as he puckishly questioned.

"I am troubled great one… In my hour of slumber, I saw"…. Before she could continue, the Mawrer interrupted her.

"I know what you saw your majesty. And what you saw is deeper than what meets the eye".

"How do you mean great seer"? She inquisitively interjected.

"This vision is near and for an appointed time. The pyramid has already been forged and it spells war. But as for the identical young women you saw calling to you for help, it is unlawful that I be the one to interpret such." "The gods forbid that I speak before I'm asked to" said the seer.

"What shall we do to pacify the gods"? She immediately pierced back.

"This is beyond me your majesty for this vision is near and it is only for a set time" he replied.

Having conversed with the seer, Queen Ashra was thrown into a more troubled state and this was lined up with frequent visions of the young women she had seen.

In the cool of the evening, whilst King Obed was in his study, Queen Ashra thought it was wise to tell him about her endless visions. King Obed sought one higher in divinity but still it ended in futility.

Who are those young women that Queen Ashra saw in her endless visions? Why was the mouth of Seer Mawrer shut from revealing the depths of the secrets shown unto him? We're an inch close to finding out…
